Which is strange because I have a cynical streak that's two miles wide and light years deep.

I saw Adam West at DragonCon last year. Walking through the hotel lobby with his agent. Went to his panel, too, and saw him ride down Peachtree St. in the Batmobile (someone else was driving).

At the panel, he was charming and gracious and funny, aside from not allowing photos. Most panels do allow photos, even though the stars are selling them on the Walk of Fame. Some people had gotten there early to set up their camcorders.

He really was trueblue as Batman. The darkness in Batman came in in the 70s, when writers started playing up the contrast between his origin (the brutal murder of his parents before his eyes) with that of Superman (taken in by the world, raised in a loving home, and motivated to give back). Now it's kinda overboard, for me.

I didn't have any of that memorabilia, which I coveted. I do, however, have a machine-autographed photo of West and Ward (on whom I had a HUGE crush) in costume in the Batmobile.Nancyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13705259501965011703noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3815530646091177574.post-2211597202172814912009-02-22T18:28:00.000-05:002009-02-22T18:28:00.000-05:00Anna, I once got to meet Clayton Moore, the Lone R...Anna, I once got to meet Clayton Moore, the Lone Ranger of my childhood, when he came to town to open an appliance store. As the line snaked forward, I kept thinking, please don't let him be a jerk, please don't let him be a jerk.

He couldn't have been lovelier. He chatted with everyone who came through and thanked them for coming. I treasure my machine-autographed photo souvenir.

In contrast, I once was assigned to shepherd a TV star around a convention. He was not rude, but he wasn't what you might call friendly either (I'm not a gusher; told him I enjoyed his work, loved the show, and tried otherwise to give him space). What tore it for me was when he was supposed to award a prize at an event and the con director was running late, not an unusual occurrence. The star kept saying, "We should just go ahead," and I kept replying, "No, we're going to wait for the boss. This is a special event to him." And I wanted to add, "And he IS paying you to be here, so do your job" but I didn't.

We waited. I was, however, SO over him at that point.

Seeing someone be a jerk scratches that person off my list. While you were still here, did you see NCIS with David McCallum? The years have been kind there, as well.Nancyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13705259501965011703noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3815530646091177574.post-64695032731353421242009-02-22T17:48:00.000-05:002009-02-22T17:48:00.000-05:00Nancy! I can add one for us older TV viewers--Napoleon Solo or Ilya Kuryakin on The Man from UNCLE. I liked Illya better but went with Napoleon because somebody I knew had dibs.

I liked Parker Stevenson on Hardy Boys (and where is he now?) and prefer Orlando Bloom to Johnny Depp (sorry, Tawny). I'd generally take Superman over Batman and Luke Skywalker over Han Solo. Hutch over Starsky.

Definitely Randolph Mantooth.

Richard Hatch (not Survivor Guy) over Dirk Benedict on original BSG. Dirk Benedict over everyone else on A-Team.

Kirk over Picard.

Sean Connery over everyone as Bond.

Michael Keaton was great as Batman (surprisingly, to those of us from Rabid Fandom USA), as Keira notes, and he was terrific as Bruce Wayne, but I'd have to go with Christian Bale overall.

In a very close vote, Morelli over Ranger. I prefer the HEA kinda guy to the intriguing bad boy.

A fun game, Anna!Nancyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13705259501965011703noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3815530646091177574.post-9779561694426657412009-02-22T15:56:00.000-05:002009-02-22T15:56:00.000-05:00LOL AC - I'm so glad you and I can hang together o...LOL AC - I'm so glad you and I can hang together on our Buffyless lives!

Oh yes - good job there's enough Hugh to go around!
