What a lovely, lovely gift! Vrai Anna and her hubby win the prize in gift giving.

Speaking of perfect gifts, you and Vrai Anna always give me the perfect gift at Nationals. CADBURY'S CHOCOLATE !!

I think one of the most perfect gifts I ever received was from my Nana. I told her I wanted to be a writer. The week before we left for England (I was 9) she gave me her Smith Corona typewriter. I still have it. I don't think she ever realized what the gift of that typewriter meant to me or how much her faith in me has helped so much over the years. When I finally sell a book it will be due, in no small part, to her gift of that old typewriter.Louisa Cornellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12971924594129471055noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3815530646091177574.post-91652552242012337032011-10-11T15:35:30.061-04:002011-10-11T15:35:30.061-04:00Julia, plenty of cabana boys still to go around. In fact, last year I gave my sister the perfect card for her wedding shower - which I'd bought over a decade ago when I used to live in Toronto, ages before she ever met her husband. When I saw it, I knew that I would need it for her someday.

The hilarious thing is that she started crying at the mere sight of the envelope with her name written in my handwriting. From experience, she already knew it was the card that says everything there is to say about our sister relationship, and my best wishes for her and her husband. One Christmas when he was about 10 or so, he picked out a beautiful vase he thought I'd like and then bought flowers to go in it. That was such a thoughtful gift from such a young boy. Alas these days I'm so damn busy all the time I dont have the hours to spend that it can sometimes take but occassionally I still find the perfect thing and I love that feeling.

A few years back I spotted a Shelley tea set for my Mum who adored china and already had one tea set. In Moolooaba actually Fo. It was gorgeous, pink and delicate and was called Anysley whch was perfect because she had an older sister who died at the age of 18 who was called Aynsley. I rang all my siblings and told them to each cough up some dosh and we gave it to her for her birthday. She cried. It was perfect :-)

I once received a gift from my older brother which was exquisite. It was a blown glass stork. It was fragile and delicate and I was stunned that he chose it. Sadly it broke a few years later and wasn't able to be repaired. It still makes me sad to think of that beautiful broken bird.

My sister recently came back from Paris and brought me a gorgeous silk shirt that has Vincent Van Gough's Starry Starry Night hand painted upon it. Its so very beautiful - soft and tactile and the colours are divine.

Thanks for the memories, Anna!Amy Andrewshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12690419732247281048noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3815530646091177574.post-49828114128917214132011-10-10T15:59:11.190-04:002011-10-10T15:59:11.190-04:00Christina, I LOVED that Wedgwood cup and saucer.
