Welcome to the party!! I am so pleased and proud to celebrate the release of If Books Could Kill with my Banditas!!! There’s nowhere else I’d rather be today.If Books Could Kill is the second book of my Bibliophile Mysteries series. Heroine Brooklyn Wainwright has come to Scotland for the Edinburgh Book Fair. When a friend asks her to authenticate a book that just may contain undiscovered poems of Robert Burns, Brooklyn’s heart races…almost as fast as it does after a kiss from hunky secret agent Derek Stone.
When that friend shows up dead, Brooklyn must work with Derek to discover the murderer before Brooklyn becomes the next victim.In honor of the setting of If Books Could Kill, I’ve rented the Great Hall of the Edinburgh Castle for the day. Please come right in!
See those streamers wayyyyyy up there, hanging from the ancient wooden beams? Those are for us. The dress code is tartan, of course. So put on your plaid party dresses and let’s get it on! Okay, first things first. The bar is open! Step right up and request your favorite libation. Have you noticed that the bartenders look a lot like Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman?
That’s because—it’s really them! Put your tongues back in your mouths, ladies! Danny and Hugh were both so excited that you had nominated them to play Derek Stone last week that they fell all over themselves to serve us at this party. And oh yes, they are indeed wearing kilts. We have a nice single malt Scotch and some lovely IPA selections, but I’m going to have to stick with pina coladas. Not very Scottish, but verrrra delicious!Now I need some help with the music. As much as I love a good Scottish folk tune, the bagpipes just don’t scream “par-tay” to me, so we’ve got a DJ for the duration. He’s taking requests. He was a wild boy, was our Robbie Burns, when he was alive and I don't think any of the spirit has left him since he's become an, uh, spirit! By the way, Kate, you might want to ask him about those poems. Nothing like going to the horse's mouth! Now, just off to find Robbie a wee dram. What's that, Robbie? Not a WEE dram? A BIG dram! ReplyDeleteWhat a great setting for your party. We went to Edinburgh when the boy was small and "did" the whole top of the mount in ten minutes. When you peek into each room only long enough to see whether it contains swords and, if so, note the fact and nod, it doesn't take very long. Lucky for us, we'd been before, but our memories aren't very fresh.
I love bagpipes. So does the dh despite not having so much as a drop of Scots heritage so far as we know. The boy, however, shudders at the skirl of the pipes. His MacQueen and MacGill ancestors are probably doing the graveyard spin.
Anna, congrats on the rooster. See if you can get him to do that Scots sword dance.

Congratulations, Kate! Since discovering Homicide in Hardcover at last week’s blog, I picked up a copy and read it on Sunday – didn’t get anything else done. Perfect timing too since now I can immediately read Brooklyn’s next adventure in Scotland. I got a chuckle over the siblings names – her parents sure got around and are great characters. Actually, I loved all the characters.

The Old Scot got a twinkle in his eye, finished his pint and leaned in close as if divulging a grand secret. "If you're lucky, lad...lipstick."
Let's see now. I just took hot brownies out of the oven, so I could bring those to the party. They are dee-lish! I've heard you can never go wrong with chocolate.

ReplyDeleteOk, so....my date is Andy Whitfield who plays SPARTACUS on the new Starz mini series. He is one hot gladiator (Relax Demetrius...he can't compare to you and the other boys...much). And a loincloth is CLOSE to a kilt.
I THINK he's an Aussie and can I just say you girls down under got more than your fair share of hot guys!!!
My drink in honor of the Gaelic setting is Bailey's on the rocks.....lots of Bailey's. ALMOST as good as Sangria and my gift???
And my gift? The combination to Andy's loincloth :-)

ReplyDeleteI also like having both on hand because I like making frozen fruit smoothies. Toss in some frozen strawberries and mango - and delicious! A healthy drink with a kick ;)
If you're feeling adventurous there's the Blue Motorcycle, which I also enjoy. Or the pink lady - which nobody knows about. (And sounds gross once you check the "recipe" but is so so good!)
And/or disaronno, lime juice, cranberry juice, and some ginger ale.
Can you tell I go for girly drinks? :D

What a great setting for a party! Uhm, are the cabana boys SUPPOSED to be swinging from the battlements like that? Oh, never mind. They're trying to elude the Duchesse of Snorkdom's wandering hands. Those kilts provide way too easy access. Hang on, Duchesse, I'm right behind you!!
Oh and if anyone needs them for later I brought a stack of my handmade quilts to keep everyone warm. Great for snuggling in front of a roaring fire or for hiding under if things get too HOT for public view!

The music has slowed, the sun has fallen, and the castle is getting a little chilly. I've got one of your beautiful quilts wrapped around me as I sway to the soft sounds of acoustic guitar.
