ARC-itectural Treasures

by Anna Campbell

Yes, it's that time again!

My next Avon historical romance MY RECKLESS SURRENDER is out on 25th May! Less than two months away.

By the way, you can pre-order the book just by clicking on the cover. Same goes for the other books I've mentioned in this blog. We're all into user friendly here in the lair (especially when it comes to the cabana boys!).

Don't you just love that cover? I think it's absolutely luscious! And that come-hither look in my heroine's eyes is just right for the rather naughty Diana Carrick! Especially when she's come-hithering the rakish Earl of Ashcroft.

STOP PRESS!

THE NEWS TODAY IS THAT I HAVE AN ARC OF MY RECKLESS SURRENDER TO GIVE AWAY TO ONE OF OUR BANDITA BUDDIES!

I'm hoping someone here will surrender recklessly to the desire to comment and win it! Good luck!

Here's the gorgeous Aussie cover for MRS! Doesn't that just take your breath away?

I'm sure you've seen the American back cover blurb for MY RECKLESS SURRENDER. If not, you can read it here: http://www.annacampbell.info/recklesssurrender.html And please check out the excerpt while you're there!

The Aussies are doing things differently (that's just part of our independent, pioneering spirit, yanno?) and I really like their blurb tooI've never had a dual-continent simultaneous release before. It's pretty exciting.

June is gonna be a big month chez Campbell:

A passionate tale brimming with lust, tenderness and betrayal from Anna Campbell, the queen of Regency noir.

Diana Carrick has very good reasons to seduce Tarquin Vale, Earl of Ashcroft. None of which she intends to share with the notorious rake. But instead of the selfish, jaded debaucher she expects, Diana discovers a man unlike any other, and even the dangerous secret she must protect cannot shield her from his dark allure.

The scandalous earl wearies of easy conquests and empty pleasures. When the mysterious Diana suggests an affair to while away a few summer weeks, he’s intrigued and becomes increasingly and powerfully drawn to Diana’s mix of innocence and passion..

Unwittingly yet most willingly, they are playing with fire. Now the fuse has been lit and there’s no escape … except surrender.

I thought to get conversation going, we'd play a little game. It's one we've played before and it's a regular on the Australian Romance Readers Association loop. But it's always fun and we're all such readers, it's pretty easy!

OK, just tell me three things:

The book you finished most recently.

The book you are currently reading.

The book you'll pick up next.

To get the ball rolling, here are my answers:

LAST: WHAT REMAINS OF HEAVEN by C.S. Harris (fabulous, I am in love with Sebastian St. Cyr, Viscount Devlin. He's a delicious mixture of the man of action and brain box, and he's so adorably tortured).

CURRENTLY: FORBIDDEN by Christina Phillips (OK, this is a bit of a gloat. It's an ARC of Aussie writer Christina's wonderful debut, an erotic historical set in Roman Britain. Those men in skirts sure could do the hula! Keep an eye out for FORBIDDEN from Berkley on 7th September! )

NEXT: KISMET by Monica Burns (I've been manfully keeping my hands off this one for a couple of weeks because I know when I start it, I won't stop. A courtesan and a sheikh? Sounds like my idea of heaven!)

So let's play! And one lucky person will get an advance reader copy of my next release MY RECKLESS SURRENDER! Best of Aussie luck to you all!

I just finished J.D. Robb's book Kindred in Dead, am now reading Immortal in Death by J.D. Robb, and The Secret by Julie Garwood. Up next is a toss up between Breakfast in Bead by Robin Kaye, Ain't too proud to beg by Susan Donovan, and The Conqueror by Kris Kennedy.

I would really really really love to get an ARC of this book to review on my blog.

Bronwyn said...

Thanks Helen =) I did enjoy it. I can't wait for the next two!

Vanessa Barneveld said...

Hello, Miss Anna! I like the new blurb for your MRS.

I have just finished reading MY RECKLESS SURRENDER! So I guess I'm out of the running for your prize. (For the record, it was a very sexy read.)

I'm reading two books by Aussie authors at the moment: Sarah Mayberry's Blaze ANYTHING FOR YOU and a new YA by Kathryn Lomer called WHAT NOW, TILDA B.

Next on the TBR pile is THE LONELY HEARTS CLUB, which is a YA by debut author Elizabeth Eulberg.

It's a festival of good reading here!

Kylie Griffin said...

JUST READ: Obsession Untamed by Pamela Palmer.

READING NOW: Passion Untamed by Pamela Palmer (I have this thing about reading series one after the other if the books are available).

NEXT TO READ: Sweet Persuasion by Maya Banks (new author I'm really looking forward to reading).

Kim in Baltimore said...

I'm currently in an Avon mood ...

Just finished: Kathryn Caskie's The Most Wicked of Sins

Currently reading: Cathy Maxwell's The Marriage Ring

Next book: Anna Campbell's My Reckless Surrender!

Anna Campbell said...

Hey, Chelley, is this your first time with the chook? Batten down the hatches!

Anna Campbell said...

Bronwyn, that's a great list. And isn't the Book Depository just the best. I had a whole stack of interesting parcels in white wrapping awaiting me too when I got back from Brisbane yesterday. What fun!

Anna Campbell said...

Jen, Avon's books come out the last Tuesday in the month preceding the official release and in this case, that's the 25th May. Not long to wait at all! Great list of reading, by the way. And seriously, give C.S. Harris a go - I think she'd appeal to you big time.

Anna Campbell said...

Lime, the GR is waving at you in a very cheeky way, that naughty bird! Thanks for the congrats - I can hardly wait. And having the Aussie and U.S. releases coincide seems like a great event to me!

Anna Campbell said...

Helen, I love that you love BOTH editions of my books. It's nice to compare and contrast them, isn't it? Actually, as you'd know, I got the idea for this game from the Australian Romance Readers Association loop. Always have fun seeing what people are reading. You'll love the Pamela Clare - I was up till all hours finishing it. I've got Hard Evidence next on my TBR pile (wrote the blog a few weeks ago so things have moved on since!).

PinkPeony said...

Thanks, Anna!

I'm heading over to Amazon. I can't remember if I pre-ordered it or not! Can't wait! Going to order C.S. Harris too.

Anna Campbell said...

Jane, that's a great list. Naked Edge has had some amazing reviews and it's great to see a Bandita book getting a mention! I've heard great things about Cara's book too!

Anna Campbell said...

Virginia, thanks for the congrats! I'm excited about this one hitting the shelves. Did a video while I was away so I'm hoping to get that up and showing soon - me talking about the gorgeous Earl of Ashcroft, sigh!

Anna Campbell said...

Elodie, I'm so excited - Vicki Lewis Thompson is the keynote speaker at our conference this year in Sydney. I've never met her and I'm so looking forward to learning from her wisdom. Glad you're looking forward to the book! Great to see you here!

Anna Campbell said...

Kirralee, just lately I seem to be overwhelmed with worthy entrants for the contests - I'm going to another contest for Captive of Sin through Facebook early next week as it's just finalled in the Wisconsin RWA Write Choice Award. But of course, you went out and bought the book - for which I thank you most sincerely ;-) You're on a run of luscious historicals right now!

Pam P said...

Anna, both covers are great, though I do like the US one a bit more.

Love, love St. Cyr. I'm glad you finally got to read What Remains of Heaven. How'd you like that ending? Now I'm dying for the next book to come out.

Tempted All Night by Carlyle was one of my favorite books last year, hope you enjoy it as much Bronwyn.

I've read some of Patricia Briggs, but still had all the Mercy Thompson series in the TBR, which I finally read back to back the past week. So, last book I just finished was Bone Crossed. Next to read - I just got the latest in the series, Silver Borne, starting as soon as I get offline tonight. Love this series, so glad I'm all caught up now.

Next to read be either The Secret Duke by Jo Beverley or In for a Penny by Rose Lerner. Jo Bev's a favorite author already. Probably will go with the Lerner first as a new author, seeing so many good things about this one.

Anna Campbell said...

Heather, let me guess? You're a J.D. Robb fan? LOL! Thanks for entering and good luck! Actually my last read, just to update things, was THREE LITTLE SECRETS by Liz Carlyle, my current read is Royal Affairs: A Lusty Romp Through the Extramarital Adventures That Rocked theBritish Monarchy by Leslie Carroll and my next read is probably going to be Pamela Clare's Hard Evidence although there's quite a lot clamoring for my attention, snort! Nothing unusual in that!

Michelle Santiago said...

hi anna! i absolutely love that yellow cover! and MRS sounds like an awesome read as well.

...thanks! i believe it's my 3rd time nabbing the GR anna :)

Last read: McAlistair's Fortune by Alissa Johnson (love!)

Currently: Dark Deceptions by Dee Davis

Next: Something About You by Julie James (I'm hoping to finally read it. I've been wanting to read this since i got my hands on it last month but other books were more pressing)

Anna Campbell said...

Vanessa, thank you so much for spruiking My Reckless Surrender. Yes, I must say this is the most nooky I've EVER put in a book! Phew! That's hard work! Snork! I love Sarah Mayberry - you'll have a great time with Anything for You!

Anna Campbell said...

Hi Kylie! All hail, contest queen of Australia! Seriously, Kylie's winning everything that moves at the moment. She's on fire (in a good way!). Pamela's books are great, aren't they? She pops by here quite often to blog - we always love her visits!

Anna Campbell said...

Oh, Kim, what a SUBTLE hint, snort! Actually that's a delicious little trio you've mentioned there - lovely Avon romances. And I'm not just saying that because I'm biased. Actually I'm probably going to head back into nonfiction land as I've got to do some serious polishing on the latest manuscript. Always enjoy that but there's nothing like being swept away into a wonderful story.

Anna Campbell said...

Ooh, Jen, thank you! I must say the Amazon click throughs make life easy!

Anna Campbell said...

Pam, my only criticism of the C.S. Harris that now I have to wait for the next one to come out. And as you say, WHAT an ending! I'm madly in love with St. Cyr. He's so deliciously tortured. Yum, yum, yum! That's a great list of books!

Anna Campbell said...

Chelley, what a wonderful list. I've heard wonderful things about the Julia James. Love a great, sparkling contemporary. Can't wait for Bandita Susan's Money, Honey to hit the shelves. It sounds absolutely fantastic!

PinkPeony said...

Did you know you're already among the top 100 best selling on Amazon in Australia and your book isn't even out yet! Big congrats!

Elisabeth Rose said...

Love that yellow cover. Yellow's my fave colour--so bright and cheery.

The covers look beautiful, Anna. How exciting to have a two-continent release! :)

I finally had time to read Surrender of a Siren and A Lady of Persuasion last week.

Now, I'm reading Sarah MacLean's Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake.

Next: Hmmm...an ARC of My Reckless Surrender (Hint, hint).

Or, since my TBR pile is teetering, probably Christina Dodd's In Bed with the Duke.

Best wishes for a super "new release" adventure for you! :)

Hugs,

What a fun game - and what a lovely cover! I can't decide if I like the US version or the Aussie version better (I'm leaning toward the Aussie version because it's more detailed and I like detail!). So, on to the game...

Recently finished: Devil's Cub by Georgette Heyer, which was the first Heyer book I've ever read. Pretty decent book.

Currently reading: Improper Relations by Janet Mullany. She is one of my new favorite authors - love her books!

As far as what I want to read next, there is that new one by Anna Campbell that's set to come out soon...what was it called again?
;-)

I just finished UNLAWFUL CONTACT by Pamela Clare. Currently, digging into SURRENDER by Pamela Clare. Up next will probably be EXTREME EXPOSURE by (notice a trend??, LOL) Pamela Clare!

I do think the Aussie covers are so much more gorgeous! Congrats on the new release. Can't wait to read it :)

Let's see... last book I read. I re-read George Orwell's Animal Farm. Though, that's more like a short-story.

I'm currently reading Paul Revere's Ride, which is an account of the first couple of days of the American Revolution. (non-fiction)

I honestly don't know what I'll read next. I don't maintain a TBR pile.

p226 said...

Though, Mrs. P226's TBR pile is now epic. ;)

hrdwrkdmom aka Dianna said...

Beautiful cover, both of them! I just finished "Ravishing in Red" by Madeline Hunter, currently reading "Provocative in Pearls" by the same author and Deceived by Mary Baologh, (I sometimes read two books at a time, one upstairs and one downstairs)next will be either "Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake" by Sarah MacLean or/and ""Desires of a Perfect Lady" by Victoria Alexander.

Deb said...

I like the covers, too, Anna. What's the reason for different covers for different countries, though? (I should know this after hanging out in the Lair for so long.)

I read Devil of the Highlands by L. Sands, am reading Taming the Highland Bride now, and, you've got it, The Hellion and the Highlander is next. I've just discovered L. Sands and am enjoying her historicals. Sarah MacLean's Nine Rules is after that.

On a non-adult note, I read Diary of a Wimpy Kid last week because all my 5th grade boys think it's great. OMG! I laughed so hard I cried---and that was only the first 20 pages! Shary thought it was funny, too, so I ordered the other 4 books for her.

Maureen said...

I just finished The Dead Travel Fast by Deanna Raybourn and am currently reading Here Comes Trouble by Donna Kauffman. I haven't decided what's next. Congratulations on the gorgeous covers.

Unknown said...

Anna, I saw the nominees for RWA so I bought 8-9 of the books for my NOOK.
I just read The Girl who Chased the Moon by Sarah Addison Allen (not on the list but she's good); I'm reading What Happens in London by Julia Quinn; and I'm can't decide to read Scandal Sheet by Gemma Halliday or Little light magic by Joy Nash or Talk me down by Victoria Dahl

I don't have the nominee's list with me but it seems like one of them is not available yet in America. How can we read it? I'll have to find it and ask you later.

Love all your books as you know!!
Cheryl (librarian from Plano, TX)

Christie Kelley said...

Lovely covers, Fo!

The last book I read I don't want to disclose because I was judging it for the RITA contest. It was paranormal and really good and it didn't final!

I currently reading an old non-fiction book called The Art of the Faker. It's about art forgery.

I'm not sure what book I'll pick up next. I think I'll hit the book closet in my office and pick something in the TBR pile.

Miranda Neville said...

Hey Ms. Campbell. Wanted to pop in and welcome you home from your retail therapy dissipations. Are we going to be wowed in Nashville by some serious Aussie chic?

Morning, ladies. For those of you following the breakfast post from yesterday, I followed Susan's steel oats recipe and and it worked perfectly! My husband and I loved it; the youngest is on the fence--she is a big fan of very dry oatmeal. So, thank you, Susan!

Last read--Atlantis Rising (alyssa day). It rocked!

Currently--nope, not right now. But I'm dangling several in front of me as carrots...

Next--Very hard to pick, but probably Warrior Ascended (addison fox).

Can't wait to read Reckless, Anna, and it comes out in summer when I'm not working. thank you!:)

Hey Ms. Anna! I ADORE that cover....ssssssss....it's HOT!

Chelleyreads, congrats on capturing today's Golden Rooster!

Okay, as to the game, I'm SUCH a slacker reader right now. I just turned in a manuscript that was overdue, because of my late father's illness, so I've had my head down and been pulling hard in the traces to get it done.

I did, however, read a few....

Finished, a re-read of Mercedes Lackey and James Mallory's The Outstretched Shadow and all the books in the Obsidian Trilogy. This was a comfort read.

Currently, J.D. Robb's Fantasy in Death. I've been holding this till I finished the mss.

Next: Christie Kelley's Something Scandalous.

Suzanne Ferrell said...

Anna, I am so excited to get your next book! I love both the covers, US and Aussie alike!

#2 Currently reading: The Paris Vendetta by Steve Berry

#3 Will pick up next: Probably Amanda Quick's newest book The Burning Lamp, as I plan to take it on vacation to see my Mom at the end of the month.

Hey Suz, how's Steve Barry's book? Engrossing? Or can you put it down?

All of his are good, but some I can't put down and some I can...I'm betting that's different for everyone though. Hmmm.

Suzanne Ferrell said...

Jeanne,

Having read Kate's If Books Could Kill, let me warn you, you'll crack up throughout various places in the book, which will in turn cause all the male members of your family to turn and look at you then ask, "what's so funny?". :)

Jeanne (AKA The Duchesse) said...

Thanks for the warning, Suz! :) Then again, they're used to me either LOL or cackling with semi-evil glee as I write, so...

Suzanne Ferrell said...

Jeanne,

Steve's books always take me some time to read as I usually start them at work. If it's a slow night, I can usually read about half. If things are busy, then only a few chapters. This one is good, but I'm still trying to follow the strings of plot that he does. :)

Oh, by the way, I don't just have a TBR pile, I carry no less than 3 books in my work bag every night. That way if we're slow I can read, if we're busy, no one can blame he busy spell on me bringing a book to work!

Suzanne Ferrell said...

Jeanne...
Sigh on the ballgame...We took 2 of 3 from the ChiSox, so we're off to a better start than last year. And yes, Detroit is looking hot this year!

My DH was bummed about the ChiSox losses, but I was pleased that Westbrook had a good outing in one of those games. Grins.

Of course, the bum-out was mild compared to his disappointment over the Cub's one-run loss last night.

Jeanne (AKA The Duchesse) said...

Hey Deb, aren't the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books hysterical?? Love those. My son's read them and just howled with laughter, as did I.

This one sounds intriguing. And I admit that the Aussie cover more accurately portrays the feelings your novels usually bring out in me, but I do like the trend in covers toward showing the dress with tje aimilar colored background. They are gorgeous.

Current: Betrayal In Death

Next up: Nine Rules frm Sara MacLean (which seems a common next book for the commenters)

I'm kind of hoping that I'll get lost amongst these 6,000 comments and you'll forget I'm a Bandita and accidently slip my name into the drawing :-)

No?

Dang.

Book I most recently finished was Tessa Dare's A Lady of Persuasion.

The one I'm reading now is Alyssa Day's is Atlantis Redeemed

The next one....depending on when I get to the Borders will be Christie's, Christine's or yours...

Congrats on your release!

Whoooohoooo on your imminent release, Anna! Can't wait for this book to hit the stands (or Amazon, in my case).

Hmmm, I read books simultanously, so right now I'm reading both C.S. Harris' When Gods Die (Yes! you and Christine turned me on to this wonderful writer!) and a YA by Daniel Waters called GENERATION DEAD. Here's the first line of that book:

"Phoebe and her friends held their breath as the dead girl in the plaid skirt walked past their table in the lunchroom." Isn't that a SUPER first line!!??

Last book I read was C.S. Harris' What Angels Fear, the first in the St. Cyr series, along with a re-read of JD Robb's Strangers in Death. And next I'm reading "The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie" by Alan Bradley.

Last: The Cinderella Deal by Jennifer Crusie
Current: The Runaway Duke by Julie Ann Long
Next: My Reckless Surrender by Anna Campbell--lol, can't wait!

Beautiful covers, Anna! Of course all of your covers have been gorgeous.

Happy day!

Anna, I love that yellow cover! Sadly, I haven't been reading much for a while because I've been buried in revisions, but I had to read Pamela Clare's Naked Edge. I haven't started another book yet, but my TBR pile includes Deborah Hale's 'Whitefeather's woman' and a couple of Donna Alward's.

Anna Campbell said...

Thanks, Jen! I personally think it's that gorgeous cover ;-)

Anna Campbell said...

Lis, those books have taken over the world, haven't they? I know so many people who have loved them. That yellow really does take the eye, doesn't it?

Anna Campbell said...

Gosh, Christina, I'm suddenly thinking it's Australia Day! Three Aussies in a row. I've got Helene's on my TBR pile - I love that blue cover, think it's gorgeous. Denise is great and oh, I hear that Captive of Sin will keep you awake all night to see what happens next. Snort. Congratulations on Forbidden. That's a corker of a read!

Anna Campbell said...

Thanks, Blodeuedd, so glad you love the covers. I definitely think I struck gold with both of them! Wow, looks like you're on a paranormal kick!

catslady said...

Oh, the cover is just gorgeous. Love the yellow.Congratulations!

I just finished Knight of Pleasure by Margaret Mallory - loved it.

I'm currently reading Time Plains Drifter by Cheryl Pierson - a time travel.

Next up is Something Scandalous by Christie Kelley.

Helen said...

What great lists I have read lots on the lists I have lots of them on my TBR and of course I seem to be adding lots more to my must have list LOL.

Have Fun
Helen

Anna Campbell said...

Cheryl, what an interesting trio. Kate's is on my TBR pile too - I loved Homicide in Hardcover. I really loved all the details about restoring books! Who knew? Laughed at your subtle hint about the ARC - you're definitely in the draw!

Anna Campbell said...

Oh, Cheryl, thanks for the congrats on Wisconsin. I'm utterly chuffed!

Anna Campbell said...

Virginia, that's a great trio. Hope you're enjoying them all. Isn't it interesting to see the different covers? The Aussies are definitely sticking with the gothic take!

Anna Campbell said...

Kirsten, always lovely to meet another fan of the luscious historical.

Anna Campbell said...

Hey, Jo, thanks for checking out the covers. Think these two really are spectacular! Great trio - sounds like you're a paranormal fan too!

Anna Campbell said...

Hiya Seton! How are things? I'm so glad people love the covers (almost) as much as I do ;-) I don't know EA - I must give her a go. I had a SuperRomance binge over Easter (as well as some great Liz Carlyles). Sometimes a category absolutely fits the mood, doesn't it?

Anna Campbell said...

Minna, isn't it great when you get hooked on a series and there's lot and lots of books to read. Good luck with the J.D. Robbs - we've already had a fan call round earlier!

Anna Campbell said...

Mariska, I was really sorry to see about your grandmother passing away. My deepest condolences.

That's a great trio of reads!
Good luck for the draw!

Hellie Sinclair said...

Your best cover yet!

Okay, game:

Last: The Accidental Bestseller (Wendy Wax)

Current: Magnolia Wednesdays (Wendy Wax)

Next: Our Little Secret (Starr Ambrose)

Anna Campbell said...

Ha ha, Sheila? Hint? What hint? Snort! I love Karen Ranney's books!

Anna Campbell said...

KW, you have a very interesting selection - quite a lot of hawt stuff there! ;-) Hope you're having fun with it.

Anna Campbell said...

Hi Bryn! Hey, another fan of luscious historicals. Sarah M has had an amazing run with NINE RULES TO BREAK. NYT and USA Today for her debut? Go, girl!

Anna Campbell said...

Snort, Margay. That's MY RECKLESS SURRENDER. Did you hear that? THAT'S MY RECKLESS SURRENDER!!!!

I re-read Devil's Cub just last year for a book review and loved it. Vidal is such a bad boy - he's gorgeous! And Mary knows just how to handle him by the end.

Anna Campbell said...

By the way, I love Janet Mullany too. I find her laugh out loud funny.

Anna Campbell said...

Hey, thanks, Scorpio. I think the Aussie cover is really dramatic - but then I think the US one is really sexy so I'm hard put to choose between the two. Laughed at your Pamela Clare obsession. I've got her entire backlist on my TBR and I'm doling them out a book at a time like really good chocolate!

Anna Campbell said...

P226, that Paul Revere book sounds really interesting. I read a lot of nonfiction - mainly biography and history. I find those books can actually spark ideas for stories - got a doozy of an idea when I was reading THE AGE OF WONDER by Richard Holmes. Will be talking about it at length in the lair in probably about 12 months!

pjpuppymom said...

Hi Anna! Can't wait to get my hands on this book. It sounds wonderful and that cover is gorgeous!

What I last read: HOME IN CAROLINA by Sherryl Woods

What I'm reading now: HER BEST FRIEND by Sarah Mayberry (Harlequin Superromance)

What's up next: NINE RULES TO BREAK WHEN ROMANCING A RAKE by Sarah MacLean

Anna Campbell said...

Snort to Mrs P226's TBR pile! That's great to hear! Did I mention MY RECKLESS SURRENDER?

Anna Campbell said...

Dianna, I've got both the MH's on the TBR pile. She's an auto buy for me. The Mary Balogh sounds great - and Sarah's book has taken the world by storm. I bought it when I saw the Romance Dish five star review.

pjpuppymom said...

Anna said: I'm so excited - Vicki Lewis Thompson is the keynote speaker at our conference this year in Sydney. I've never met her and I'm so looking forward to learning from her wisdom.

Anna, Vicki is one of the sweetest people I know and so much fun. She'll be a wonderful keynote speaker!

Buffie said...

Anna said and Sarah's book has taken the world by storm. I bought it when I saw the Romance Dish five star review.

Thanks for the shout out Anna!! Sarah's book *IS* fabulous. It's the only 5 star review I have given at The Romance Dish. I can't wait for her next one!!!!

Anna Campbell said...

Deb, the different publishers choose covers that they think will suit their markets. It makes me giggle that all the dark, gothic look is what they go for in nice, sunny Oz! The Diary of a Wimpy Kid sounds hilarious! Love it when you go on a reading jag with one author, don't you? Read three Liz Carlyles over Easter and that was wonderful!

Sandra Hyatt said...

Hi Anna - So looking forward to Reckless Surrender

Last read: The Chief, by Monica McCarty

Finished last night: Sliding Home by Kate Angell

Next: Where The Heart Leads, by Stephanie Laurens

Haven't tried C S Harris can I start anywhere in the St Cyr mysteries or should I start with the first one?

Anna Campbell said...

Thanks, Maureen. Loved the first three Deanna Rs. Must get the new one. Actually my teetering TBR pile (which is growing with this post unfortunately - how dare you girls suggest all these good books for me to read?) is tempting me so I'm not 100% sure what I'm reading next either.

Anna Campbell said...

Hey, Cheryl, how is life in Plano? Are you still the genealogy expert there? That must be some interesting that pops up in that section! Have you discovered the Book Depository yet? They're a UK based outfit and they'll post anywhere in the world without charging packing and mailing. I spend a fortune there! http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/ With the pound down, the prices are pretty good too.

Thanks for popping by and saying nice things about my books ;-)

Anna Campbell said...

Christie, congratulations on the release of Scandal. Seeing lots of great buzz around for that. All the Banditas seem to be in favor with the cover gods, don't they? Nice! I'm probably heading back to nonfiction for a while now while I polish the new story.

Keira Soleore said...

Oh, pick me! Pick me! Do, do, do pick meeeeeee!

Not for a drink in Nashville, though that, too. But for an early copy of MRS. (Heh, will never believe you didn't plan this acronym.)

To answer your three questions, it's all things Jo Beverley for me. FINISHED: "The Secret Duke." CURRENT: re-reading "Devilish" for the nth time. NEXT: "The Devil's Heiress."

Anna Campbell said...

Ha ha, Miranda, have to laugh. White Mughals was a book I used for COS - it's a wonderful, heartbreaking story. And utterly fascinating. Have fun with it! Didn't buy any clothes but any guests to my house are going to get some seriously good towel therapy (thanks to a sale at a high end store), I now have a pile of lovely birthday cards to send out and I bought a stack of presents for people who shall be nameless. Any Aussie chic in Nashville will be last year's ;-) Good luck with the new story. Can't wait! The Wild Marquis arrived from the Book Depository while I was away and I'm itching to read it!

Anna Campbell said...

Gillian, cool bananas on the oats recipe. I love Cassondra's posts - she takes this slanted look at life and never fails to move and/or amuse me. MRS is my first summer book! Good luck on the new reading!

Anna Campbell said...

Deb and Miranda, Dutch doctors rule! Snort! Actually I must say I always wanted a bit more heat in my stories even as a young un so never really got into BN. She is hugely popular in Australia though. They keep reissuing her stuff and it flies off the shelves, even now.

Anna Campbell said...

Jeanne, everybody in the lair is really excited that we've got a new book of yours to look forward to. Congratulations on finishing. Sounds like you've kept up the good reading front all the same, even with everything that's been going on. I've always got a book on the go!

Christine Wells said...

Hi Anna! My goodness, you've been busy! Good luck to all who have entered Anna's contest--as one who has already read MY RECKLESS SURRENDER (yes, I am CP, hear me gloat!!) let me say you're in for a rare treat!

OK, last book... I always have a few on the go at once but I'll pick Kristan Higgins's Too Good to Be True--a fun contemporary with a lovely sisterly relationship in there as well as a hawt neighbour with washboard abs:)

Currently reading Elizabeth George's Careless in Red (an Inspector Lynley mystery)

Next for me--I'm not sure. My reading tends to slow down a bit when my writing picks up pace toward deadline. I might read a biography of Hester Stanhope that's been sitting on my TBR pile for a while. Also the Laurentine Spy by Emily Gee, who is a fantastic writer and a lovely person to boot.

Congrats on the rooster, Chelley!

Anna Campbell said...

Drew, you know I am immune to hints...

Well, send me $1,000 and we might talk! Snork!

I've heard great things about Hope Tarr's Blazes. I've got Kathleen O'Reilly's latest Blaze waiting for me. Yum! Love her books!

So glad you love the covers. I love that they're so different!

Anna Campbell said...

Suz, that's some seriously luscious reading you've got going there! Hope you're having fun with it. Hope you have a great holiday. It's always such fun when I've got a new cover to share and I adore both of these.

Anna Campbell said...

Jeanne, I'm saving IBCK too. I hoard the stuff I know I'm going to love for when I've got a chance to wallow like I did at Easter. Had a Beth Andrews fest - read her RITA nommed A NOT SO PERFECT PAST and HIS SECRET AGENDA in one gulp. Yum, yum, yum. I can see why she's up there for that gold statue. These were fantastic!

Anna Campbell said...

Ooh, Okie, sounds completely delicious. Isn't it interesting what a range of reading we all do? I love hearing about new books like this!

Anna Campbell said...

Hey, Suz, and if someone tries to mug you, all those books turn that bag into a SERIOUS weapon ;-)

Anna Campbell said...

Jeanne, I met Cheryl at a signing when I was in Dallas and she's great and a huge supporter of romance. Seriously, she treated me like a princess! If ever you get a chance to sign at Plano, jump at it, girls!

Monica Burns said...

O-M-G!!! I HAVE to have FORBIDDEN!! Rome! I love ANYTHING ROMAN!!! And it's releasing the same time my second Sicari book hits (set in Rome 2 story lines, past/present) Talk about fate! I MUST have Christina's BOOK!!! Will have to consider how to get one before release. Oh you lucky woman you. And thank you for the plug on Kismet. I hope you like it. And got my order in for MRS!

Miranda Neville said...

Interesting that you were inspired by the Richard Holmes book. I just got it from Amazon. I'm not worried that our inspirations will overlap because I can never be as horrible to my characters as you are. I'm quite sure reading White Mughals won't give me the urge to subject my heroine to the stuff you made poor darling Gideon suffer in COS. You are a cruel woman. Lucky you are so good at the HEA. Can't wait for MRS.

Anna Campbell said...

Sandie, thanks for checking out the covers. Aren't they lovely? I adore Kelly's stuff, right from her very first book which opens with the heroine contemplating the hero's shoe size. Snork! Annie's latest is fantastic - she's our guest here next week and she's doing a couple of giveaways, so don't miss that. And Anne Gracie is an autobuy. You're having a real Aussie fest, aren't you? Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, oy, oy, oy!

Pissenlit said...

AND
Suzanne McLeod - The Sweet Scent of Blood (Spellcrackers #1)

NEXT:
Victoria Thompson - Murder in Chinatown (Gaslight Mystery #9)

Anna Campbell said...

Minna, if you've got a gift certificate, this has been just the blog for you! The problem is narrowing down just what you're going to get! Have fun!

Anna Campbell said...

Hey, Mrs P226 of the huge TBR pile, HELLO! Laughed at your reading list - you know, I don't think any of those are going to tempt Minna and her book voucher! I could be wrong, though! Yeah, I can see why you're looking forward to some recreational reading! I'd say you're counting the days but you're probably completely sick of counting things!

Anna Campbell said...

Hi Denise! Nice to see you! Yes, you ARE on a mystery kick. Hope they've been good. Good luck with the draw!

Anna Campbell said...

Lori, I think a lot of us are looking forward to reading/currently reading Sarah's book. I love the Sarah Mayberry - hope you enjoy it too! Glad you love the covers - I think the dramatic covers definitely suit the story. Although I must say the seductive look of the US one is really suitable too!

Anna Campbell said...

Mary, how lovely to see your list - all those yummy historicals! I recently read my first Caroline Linden - it was an ARC of her new one and it was fantastic. Can't wait to explore her backlist. She writes really vivid characters. So glad you love the yellow cover - I love that my first summer book has such a bright look about it! Another vote for Sarah M, I see!

Anna Campbell said...

Marnee, I'm behind with my Lisa Kleypas reading too so you're not alone. Looks like you've got lots of lovely hours lost in a great love story ahead of you!

Anna Campbell said...

Calila, more luscious historicals. It's wonderful to see everybody pulling books off that particular section of the bookstore shelf. And not completely from self-interest! Snort!

Anna Campbell said...

BRN, well, you definitely win the old school romance award! I bet you're having a really rip-roaring time!

kyproff said...

I'm reading Scent of Darkness by Christina Dodd and loving it.

Anna Campbell said...

Joan, sounds like you can't go wrong with any of your new ones. Seriously, Christine's is fabulous - love that Jardine! Snork! How wonderful that there are bandita books to be bought all round the place at the moment! Hie thee to a bookstore, young thing. Oh, and yeah, I DID remember you are a Bandita. Dang! The really sad thing is I only have ONE ARC to give away. Everybody's really entered into the spirit of this competition so eagerly, I wish I had an extra. But I don't. Don't forget I'm giving away my last ARC on my website contest, closing 30th April. http://www.annacampbell.info/contest.html

Anna Campbell said...

Jo, that's a lovely list! You've got some wonderful St. Cyr books ahead of you - for anyone else contemplating reading them, I'd highly recommend reading them in order. There's revelations in every story that lead you on to the next one. It's like a fabulous treasure hunt, picking up the clues!

MariElle said...

Just finished Trouble in High Heels by Leanne Banks- great read.
Reading Neck & Neck by Elizabeth Bevarly who writes such fun stuff.
Next up is Moab is my Washpot by Stephen Fry which will be an adventure into his early life- love his work so am looking forward to reading his autobiography.

Literally CANNOT WAIT to get My Reckless Surrender- then will have to make an appointment with the all-nighter calendar to read it 8~) That's the only way to read an Anna Campbell!

Anna Campbell said...

Jo, by the way, that IS a fab first line! You wouldn't put the book down then, would you?

Anna Campbell said...

Now, Linda, that's a fabulous list, especially the last one! Snort! I love Julie Anne Long. I've got one of her more recent ones on the TBR pile. She's consistently entertaining, isn't she? Love Jenny Crusie. You can't go wrong with her either.

Anna Campbell said...

Hi Renee! Thanks for saying you love the covers! I've been really lucky, haven't I? That's an interesting list of reading! Still fascinated by the variety!

Anna Campbell said...

Kimberly, you clearly play across a couple of genres. Good for you! I've had The Lovely Bones on the bookcase for years - a friend gave it to me. But I haven't got around to picking it up yet. I should!

Becke Davis said...

I'm so eager to read Anna's new book, I'm really glad I remembered to stop by.

I just finished reading an ARC of Christine Wells' wonderful new book, as well as an ARC of a mystery by Mary Kennedy. Right now I'm reading Jonathan Kellerman's latest - I'm going back and forth between mystery and romance.

Anna Campbell said...

Ah, Mira, clearly you are a woman of exquisite taste, snort! Actually I'm talking about Kelly's book - I think she's fantastic. She has such a fresh, funny voice. We're all terrifically proud of her RITA final this year!

Anna Campbell said...

Hi Twin. You'll definitely see the yellow one everywhere after 25th May. The Aussie one will turn up in charity auctions - I often give out the trade paperbacks because they're not available in America and people seem to love them. Those dramatic covers really strike a chord with US readers. I really enjoyed Breathing Room - you can't go wrong with SEP!

Anna Campbell said...

Buffie, isn't the Aussie cover great? Although she's going to catch a cold if she doesn't put some clothes on standing out there in cold old England! Interesting list - I've really enjoyed the latest lot of reviews on the Romance Dish although man, you're bad for my Visa card!

Anna Campbell said...

Linda, hope the revisions went well. I've got Pamela's Naked Edge on the TBR pile - want to read the other I-Team books first. One down, a couple to go. They're great.

Ooh, Catslady, that's a lovely list of reading you've got. Have fun! So glad you love the covers!

Anna Campbell said...

Helen, this stuff for you is like catnip for a cat, isn't it? Although I imagine you already have a lot of these books - you're always so far ahead of me when it comes to reading!

Anna Campbell said...

Hellion, would you believe I've never heard of ANY of those books? Clearly I need to pull my finger out. So glad you love the cover! I got such a thrill when I first saw it!

Anna Campbell said...

PJ, I'm a huge Sarah Mayberry fan. I squealed like a teenager when I got to meet her at one of our conferences two years ago. I think she's got such a fresh, modern, sexy voice. I've got Home for the Holidays waiting for me on the TBR pile. Read A Natural Father over Easter which was great. Her Supers have a slightly different feel to her Blazes but still fantastic. Sarah Maclean should be pretty happy if she pops by this blog - her book's getting ten tons of lurve! Yay, Sarah!

Anna Campbell said...

PJ, really looking forward to meeting her. And one of the nice things about the Oz conference is that it's pretty small so you actually do get a chance to talk to the big stars. Had a lovely talk to Mary Jo Putney last year!

Anna Campbell said...

Buffie, I love your review and that's actually what tipped me over from thinking about buying to buying. Yay, you. For anyone who missed it, here's the link: http://www.theromancedish.com/2010/03/review-nine-rules-to-break-when.html

I bet you won't resist either when you read that review!

Anna Campbell said...

Hey, Sandra, how lovely to see you. You know you're my new automatic buy, don't you? Anyone who hasn't read Sandra's books is missing out on a huge treat!

I'd definitely recommend reading the St. Cyrs in order. She really times her revelations for maximum impact and I think it would spoil it if you knew ahead of time what was coming.

Anna Campbell said...

Snort, Keira. Don't tell me - you're a Jo Beverley fan!!! Sounds like you're having a yummy time with your reading. The drink at Nashville? Check. Winning the ARC? Hmm, we'll have to see... Oh, I love tormenting you! It's cruel but fun, snork!

Sandra Lynne said...

Good luck with your upcoming release! It looks like a very romantic, sexy, and interesting book and I'm looking forward to reading it! It also has a beautiful cover! :)

The last book I read was:
A Kim Lawrence Harlequin Presents called "The Italian's Secretary Bride".

The book I'm currently reading is:
"Winning Back His Wife" by Barbara McMahon, a Harlequin Romance.

My next book, I'm not sure yet, but I think it will be an Amanda McCabe historical.

Thanks for having this contest! It was alot of fun!
Sandra

Anna Campbell said...

Hi Christine! Don't let us distract you from finishing your book. I keep smiling at what a treat everyone has in store with SWEETEST LITTLE SIN in a couple of weeks. Thanks for saying such lovely things about MRS. I still remember you looking across a table at our last Aussie conference and telling me how you'd drooled over Ashcroft. Ah, what fun! Well, at least for me. I'm not sure Ashcroft was into all that saliva! Emily Gee (who I 100% agree with you about) writes historicals as Emily May. I got her THE EARL'S DILEMMA in the mail this week from the Book Depository. Looks like a lovely Regency.

Anna Campbell said...

Monica, loved Kismet - did this post a few weeks ago, my reading has since moved on. What a luscious love story with a gorgeous tortured hero and those love scenes were TSSSSS hot! More please! Oh, you'll love Forbidden. It was full of luscious love scenes too and the Roman background was fascinating and different.

Anna Campbell said...

Miranda, I adored the Richard Holmes book (he's an auto read for me - I love his literary bios too). The lives of the men behind the scientific revolution in Regency England were absolutely fascinating - you'll be glued to the page like it's a great novel. I can see why The Age of Wonder has won book of the year all over the place. It's fantastic. Laughed at you not being so cruel - I'm sure you can access your inner beyotch if you try, my friend!

Anna Campbell said...

Hey, Pissenlit, we've drooled over the gorgeous Viscount Devlin before. He just gets more and more attractive with every book. And I can't wait to see what happens next - even though, sadly, I have to. Really interesting recommendations for your other books - I'll have to check them out. Glad you love the covers!

Anna Campbell said...

Kyproff, Christina Dodd is great, isn't she? Thanks for swinging by!

Anna Campbell said...

Oh, MariElle, that all nighter comment really does warm my heart. Thank you! Literally weeks until it's out - 45 days, so just a little over six weeks!

What an interesting list. I heard a lot of great buzz about the Leanne Banks and I agree about Elizabeth Bevarly's stuff being a hoot. Have fun with Stephen Fry. He seems to be omnipresent on our TV at the moment! You'd think we were still part of the British Empire!

Anna Campbell said...

Becke, isn't Christine's book delicious? I love the characters and some of the detail like that wild and wacky summerhouse! So glad you enjoyed it. Thanks so much for swinging by - I know how busy you are. You seem to be blogging all over the universe at the moment!

Anna Campbell said...

Cait, I'm picking up you're a Karen Mcinierney fan. I'll have to check her out - she's new to me. Thanks for playing and good luck!

Anna Campbell said...

Hey, Carol, lovely to see you! You Supernatural critter, you! ;-) Interesting you're leaning towards the Aussie cover. I think they're both beautiful - the yellow one conveys the story's sensuality and the Aussie one conveys the drama. Both completely accurate! Sounds like you've got some great reading ahead of you!

pjpuppymom said...

Anna said; Hellion, would you believe I've never heard of ANY of those books?

Anna, The Accidental Bestseller by Wendy Wax (a wonderful author and sweetheart of a lady from Atlanta) was one of my favorite books of 2009. It's a RITA finalist for Best Novel with Strong Romantic Elements. Magnolia Wednesdays is her new (March 2) release. I'm looking forward to reading it!

Anna Campbell said...

Sandra, lovely to see you here too. I love a good Harlequin Presents. Pop back on Friday when the wonderful Annie West is giving away a few books and talking about her fabulous new Presents FORGOTTEN MISTRESS, SECRET LOVE-CHILD. You never know, you could add to your TBR pile! Thanks for checking out the covers - so glad you love them. It's been such fun seeing what everybody's got in their reading list!

Anna Campbell said...

PJ, those books sound great. And how fantastic that Wendy Wax is a RITA finalist! I'll have to check her out - thanks for poking me!

Congrats on the GR, Chelley!

Okay, now for the answers to your questions:

LAST: McSHANNON'S CHANCE by Jennie Marsland, a western set in 1870's Colorado

CURRENTLY: ON THE ROAD by Jack Kerouac, contemporary-at-the-time look at 1950's American beat culture and the siren call of heading off to embrace adventure

NEXT: THE SECRET RIVER by Kate Grenville, an early 19th century tale of convicts making new lives for themselves in Australia and what that means to the original inhabitants. Have to confess I already skimmed my way through this one, as I'm also writing a convict-to-Van-Diemen's-Land tale and couldn't resist it! But I must read it properly.

JK, that is indeed an eclectic list! But then variety is the spice of life, isn't it? So glad you love the covers. I think they're really spectacular in whichever incarnation!

Fabulous covers, La Campbell!! That Aussie cover is just as sigh-worthy as the American versions!

Chelley !!! You got the GR !! Have fun!

Everyone is reading some great stuff!!

Let me see. The last book I read ?

Provocative in Pearls by Madeline Hunter and it was FABULOUS !! Great sequel to Ravishing in Red !!

I am currently reading an ARC I received so I can review it for LibraryThing. It is a medieval mystery titled A Corpse at St. Andrew's Chapel by Mel Starr. A hundred pages in and I am loving it! The story is set in 1365 and our protagonist is a surgeon and the bailiff for the local landholder. The medical details and the way he goes about trying to solve the murder are just fascinating. Told in first person, Hugh de Singleton is smart, witty, droll, and torn in regard to the teachings of the church. So far it is in the mode of a British cozy mystery set in the 14th century. Love it!

Next on my list? Audley End by Stafford about what was once the largest country home in Britain. I am modeling the house in my current WIP on this house, with some interesting additions to the house.

Julia, what an interesting list. You and JK should talk to each other about being eclectic readers! Love the variety that has turned up today. It's absolutely fascinating. I haven't read The Secret River although I've read a couple of Kate Grenville's books. She's terrifically interesting when people interview her - I wonder if she's on You Tube. VERY smart cookie! How interesting you're writing a convict romance. I visited Port Arthur in Tasmania about 15 years ago. It's bleak and awe-inspiring and haunting. And this was before our worst gun crime happened there. Can't imagine what the atmosphere is like now!

Three eclectic readers in a row. Chey, that's a really interesting list. I haven't read any Inspector Rebus books although they have a huge following here. Love the idea of the Edinburgh setting!

Thanks, LC! Thought you'd take to the operatic Aussie cover!

Looking forward to the Hunters. I'm saving them for a binge weekend. I love her stuff and these two sound great.

That medieval sounds great! I'll have to keep an eye out for it.

Audley End looks fascinating. You were talking about it last week and I looked into visiting it - it's not too far from London so not out of the question on my next trip there. Some spectacular decoration by the looks of it!

Yes, I DO love that cover, La Campbell! What a great description - operatic.

The Mel Starr book is actually his second in the series. The first is The Unguiet Bones. If this books continues as it has started I will have to pick it up.

I have become somewhat obsessed with Audley End since I first started researching it. The house is very changed now from its original appearance, but the drawings and architectural studies of its original form are intriguing. It truly looks like the sort of house some poor guest could get lost in and never be found! Definitely on my list of places to visit when I get to return to England.

And you will LOVE the Hunters. I can't wait for the next one to come out.

I'm late! We had our first big family cookout of the season today. Winter is definitely past now.

Anna, both covers are gorgeous, and I can't wait to read MRS. Love the book game.

Just Read: Lois Lane Tells All by Karen Hawkins

Reading Now: the draft of a terrific regency that I'm sure we'll see on bookshelves one day

Next in Line: Nine Rule to Break When Romancing a Rake by Sarah MacLean

Louisa, there's a BBC show on TV here called Bargain Hunt which is kind of a game show based around antiques and the host always visits a stately home halfway through. He's been to Audley End a couple of times recently and it looks absolutely spectacular.

Janga, you're not late! And it's always lovely to see you. Sounds like you're doing some lovely reading at the moment too. I really HAVE to read Sarah Maclean's book - if only to keep up with everybody talking about it, SNORT! Actually I think it sounds like a lot of fun - and I love a really sparkling Regency.

Wow, Anna, you're rockin' it over here, babe! I think I forgot to say it earlier, but I adore that cover. Well, both of them. Grins. Gotta say though that the Aussie one reminds me of Gone with the Wind.

Grins.
