Kitsch Icons -- Lest We Forget

posted by Christine Wells
Anyone remember The Love Boat? Nerdy little girl that I was, I used to adore that show. Julie, Captain Stubing, Gopher, the rather too cute captain’s daughter whose name I forget. Their beaming shiny faces always assured true love was just around the corner for a surprising number of lucky couples.

Now, perhaps my thoughts have turned to TLB because our Aunty spends a lot of her time cruising idyllic waters looking for the next buff cabana boy—ahem, I mean— the next perfect cocktail. But I wonder—if you had your choice of the modern day love boat, who would you want to see falling in love? Actors, book characters, you name it! Give me three couples who are going to trip the light fantastic on the deck of our very own Love Boat.

Keira Sol...I mean, Knightley and Gerard Butler?? Hm. Perhaps not. Too earthy. How about Keira Knightley and James McAvoy. Those would make a good pair. I'd like to see Brangelina make it. I wish Princess Diana had married a different sort of Prince, one had cared for her. :(

Okay, this is a hard one Christine...

#1 Johanna and Gabriel from Julie Garwood's Saving Grace

#2 Vane and Bridie from Sherrilyn Kenyon's Night Play

#3 Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline as their characters from French Kiss

Oh, I love this!

I want to send Loretta and Johnny from "Moonstruck"--and Ronny, too, of course so she'll dump Johnny for him. *eg*

Emma and Mr. Knightley from Jane Austen's "Emma" would surely have discovered their love sooner if they had been at sea! For that matter, send Henrietta (Emma's poorly born friend) and Mr. Martin (the nice farmer).

And, being a pot-stirrer, I would like to send Amelia Peabody and Emerson, from Elizabeth Peters' series of Egyptology books, along. Can you imagine Amelia's outrage at the shenanigans onboard? Of course, then we would have to send Ramses and Nefret, David and Lia...well, it's a cast of thousands there. They may need their own ship! Or would a largish dahabeeyah do? *g*

Christine, I also meant to confess that when I was about 13 or 14, The Love Boat was still on prime time and in reruns. One summer, it came on in the morning and late at night. On it's usual airing day (Friday, I think), I could watch it three times a day. And I did!

I thought it was silly even then, but couldn't resist the romance and glimpses of exotic locales!

Me and (sorry AC) Eric Bana

As you can see, it's all about ME this morning :-)

LOL, Joan. Your answer cracked me up! Okay, I'll play:

1. Will and Elizabeth from Pirates of the Caribbean (You all knew that would be one.)
2. Angel and Buffy (Of course, Angel could only come on deck at night.)
3. Ron and Hermione from the Harry Potter books
4. Bones and Booth from Bones
5. Michael and Sara from Prison Break
6. Faramir and Eowyn from Lord of the Rings

Jeanne (AKA The Duchesse) said...

Oh, Trish! Faramir and Eiwynn for sure. Joan, you crack me up. hmm lets see...Callie and her hunk from CSI Miami. Me and Nick from CSI Las Vegas...oh, sorry, it's not about me today, it's about JOAN! But, her Damon sounds pretty hunky, how about we ante up and send her w/ Damon? Heehee. Suz, we definately hae to send Meg and Kevin. THat was the funniest movie! Oh, and John Cleese and Jamie Lee Curtis as their characters from A Fish Called Wanda. :> Peter Parker and Mary Jane from Spiderman have GOT to go, jeez, talk about star-crossed!

Grins.

Now Christine,
The hunky cabana boys are ON SHORE! On the boat it's hunky wait staff... Er, um, I mean... Time for another cocktail! The most fun is the "tasting parties" where you pay one price and get to sample (as in half the size of a regular drink) 6 different flavors of margaritas or martinis or what-have-you. YUM!

And Joan, my sister separated at birth, your taste in dance partners is EXQUISITE, and since it is ALL ABOUT YOU, I will let you dance with Eric -- for about 5 seconds! Meanwhile Aunty will be cavorting with Hugh and my other current Chief Lust Object, Paul Bettany.
Russell is yummy (and an astonishing actor) but just not TALL enough to meet Aunty's requirements (must be minimum of 6'2") but Gerry Butler could talk me into waiving that requirement for him! Who am I kidding?!?! With that adorable brogue, Gerry could talk Aunty into ANYTHING!

Where was I?!?! Oh yes, Aunty will be off on her next cruise in October. My first time to the Caribbean where I will be on the look out for Cap'n Jack and company!

Wow, thanks Jeanne! I would love to be with my Damon.....

Who looks like a scruffy Hugh Jackman....

Who NEEDS a passionate, loving, caring woman (not TOO self centered :-0 )....

Who...um, excuse me. Must go revise this ONE scene....

jennifer aniston playing an actress who's husband leaves her (the dog) has 3 men fighting over her, so she can choose who is worthy enough of her.

Bones and Booth from Bones, stuck at sea, forced to face their attraction to each other

Sawyer, Jack, and Kate from Lost. Maybe with them all cleaned up she could finally just choose one.

How about
Rosamunde and Luc from Sophia Nash's A Dangerous Beauty had a fantastic love scene on a boat could repeat that.
House and Cutty fireworks there
Steven Segal and pehaps Me he knows his way around a boat perhaps I could get him to relax with a few cocktails.
Have Fun
Helen

Jeanne (AKA The Duchesse) said...

Oh, yeah, Helen, those two could use a boat trip...:>

Oh, I so want Angel and Bones to get together. Okay, different names for different shows, but honestly, Seeley Booth is the ONLY man who will ever GET Bones.

And I've recently fallen in love with the Scottish hunk from ROME, Kevin something-or-other. And no one can have him but ME!!

And okay, this is corny, but I have to say Boyd and Jo because I don't know anyone else who will hold back my hair when I throw up.

Caren,
