Second Anniversary Blow Out

posted by Aunty Cindy and Le Duchesse Jeanne Adams

It's time to celebrate AGAIN? Wait, wait...TWO years??? How can it possibly be TWO YEARS!?!?! Why, wasn't it just yesterday that we Romance Bandits were getting our Golden Heart Finalist notices?

Whaddya mean we don't get first pick of editor agents this year? How can it have been THREE years since that happened?

Oh. My. Gosh.

Does this happen to you Aunty Cindy? You suddenly realize it's been waaaaay longer than you thought since you a.) got married; b.) had a child; c.) entered a contest; d.) wrote The End; e.) bought the house....

Oh yes, my Darling Duchesse, this happens to me waaay more than I like to admit. But then, everyone knows Aunty is older than dirt and used to spend her school recess going down to Plymouth Rock to watch the Pilgrims land...

*Muffled snickering from La Duchesse* Ah, now, AC. Surely not! Now if you told me you'd been the one to slip past the hideous signage and fences to scrawl graffiti on it a mild afterschool prank, I might believe it...

Harrrummph. My dear Duchesse, Aunty Cindy may make fun of her age. YOU, however, may NOT. And graffiti? Aunty is ever so much more refined than that! HA!

*pretending meekness, but still snickering* Yes'm!

As to time passing, we don't like to talk or think about Aunty's first marriage, except that it did produce the Lovely Child, who is hardly a child, being older than a couple of Banditas and BBs.

AHEM! But the DH and I will be celebrating 20 years together at the end of this month!

Wow! Congrats, Aunty! Just passed the 10 year milestone with my darling hubby, so I'm preening. The first hubby (gone, lo these many years ago, thank the good LORD!), was dismissed without issue, so I never have to see him again if I so choose. (I choose, I choose!) Grins.

ME TOO (on the choose NOT to see DH 1)!

Speaking of seeing things and people, I have entered a couple of contests for published authors and should be hearing some results this month! Keep your fingers crossed for me everyone.

And as for writing The End, I know we are both struggling to get to THAT with our current WIPS. Right, Duchesse? UGH! These writing caves in the vast bottom layers of the Lair are dreary, but SO WORTH IT when we can finally emerge.

Too right, Auntie. Although, the stalagmites and stalagtites can be...inspiring!

Duchesse! Behave!

*blushes* Okay, okay. However, I will point out...snicker, point out, get it?...

*Aunty Cindy sighes, shakes her head* Yes? Your...point?

Oh, yeah. Point. Okay. We DO need to remodel the caves. We'll have to bring it to the attention of our fellow Banditas at the next full convocation in DC. It's high time the writing caves got central heat and air. I keep getting cold down there. And they need better access to the kitchens and massage rooms. Seriously, it's a looonnnnngggg hike up those stone steps right now.

Aunty believes Le Duchesse has missed the entire POINT (ahem!) of being in the writing caves. It is not about comfort! It is about torturing our characters! Starving for our art! (Duchesse snorks loudly) Okay, maybe not starving but SUFFERING, and most of all getting those stories finished on deadline.

*The Duchesse looks off, into the distance* You know AC, thinking about the cave reminds me of how we all met. Like I said, that "It seems like just yesterday" has a couple years of age on it now! THREE, in fact. Wow.

*AC snaps her fingers* Snap out of it, girl!

Sorry! Must be "early onset" or something. Ha! I get this with my kids too. My oldest son is now taller than my shoulder. He's eight, which seems impossible since...well, you know... I just had him yesterday...or was it two years ago?...no, had to be...nearly NINE years ago.

Of course, there's the reverse deal going there too. I feel like I can't remember a time when I WASN'T buying a.) baseball cleats; b.) married to my Fabulous Husband, ; c.) living in DC...you get the picture.

Not only that, but look how far we've come with our writing careers!!

SO true!

We BOTH have our second releases due out soon! Your Dark & Deadly will hit the shelves next month! And my The Treasures of Venice (which was actually my 06 GH finalist) will be out on Sept. 1st! So much has happened in such a short time for us and a lot of the Banditas. You and I were still struggline AYUs (As Yet Unpublished) when we formed the Romance Bandits!

Again, SO true, my dear AC. I'm thrilled about Dark and Deadly. The cover Gods were once again good to me. Then again, they were for you too, on BOTH your books!

BTW, let me tell you Banditas, you are in for SUCH a treat with The Treasures of Venice. OMGosh. You thought the Wild Sight was good? *rubs hands together* You ain't seen - harhar - NUTHIN' yet!!! Treasures is A-mazing.

(Aunty blushes daintily)

Ya' know, I also have to say, that as I'm thinking it all just happened yesterday, I simultaneously feel like I've known my fellow Bandits and Bandita Buddies for WAY longer than the two years this blog's been going. I feel like I've known some of ya'll my whole life!

And yet...I haven't. How weird.

Yes, but in a WEIRDLY WONDERFUL WAY!

Well, we're weirdly wonderful women, so....that follows, right? Heehee. I don't know about you, AC, but it keeps me grateful, because I know that all the Romance Bandits are right there with me and Aunty Cindy in being totally, delightfully, brilliantly happy that all these wonderful folks - RB's and BB's alike! - have chosen to hang out here in the Lair for the last two years.

From the tallest tower to the deepest recesses of the Lair's wine cellar, we are celebrating the delirious joy of two years of Rooster Antics, Cabana Boy drink service, Sven's massages, Helen's happy grandchildren, Baby Bandits and Banditas for several of our members, Books Sold, Books Signed, Books Out on the shelf. Then there's Awards like...uh...that little thing...what was it AC?

You mean the New York Times? And that little thing called the Rita awards?

Yeah! KATE!!! Kate hit the New York Times list this Spring, for those of you who were in the cave and missed it. :> And we had FoAnna (Anna Campbell) as our DOUBLE Rita nominee last year and our lovely Madame Christine Wells as our Rita nominee THIS year! (Trust me, when Christine's name's read, its going to sound like DC got hit with the Thunder from Down Under in that ballroom! Wahooooooo!)

We've got awards, sales, wins, misses, laughs, tears, tractors, exploding gas cans, music, desserts, holidays, and even a bobcat or two to celebrate, so let's get to it!

Why don't we wrap all this yapping up with the question of the day? After all, Aunty needs a beverage after all this cave time. Let's get to the celebration!

Sounds good to me! What's the question?

What's your take on Romance Covers these days?

Photographic covers? Love 'em?
Cartoon covers? Love em or not?
Heads or no heads? (Minds out of the gutter, ladies. I'm referring to the penchant for art departments to use the lovely male torso - sans head - as the cover shot)

And....DRUM ROLL PLEASE! (Darling Demetrius has reluctantly agreed to be our drummer today)

If you were in charge (and we KNOW you are!) of fitting titles to covers, what would you do?
Here are some pictures that are worthy of romance novel covers.

Let's play...TITLE THAT BOOK!

Why is she sitting on the tractor tire? And where did he find those sunflowers?

She's barefoot in the rain. WHY?

Here's one for our historical readers. Or maybe that is fantasy, since that looks like a castle over on the far shore.

Oh my! Is it hot in here or what?!?!

All righty everyone, put on your creative thinking caps! Post your title suggestions for one or more of these "covers" and see if you can win a prize or two!

Also - congratulation, sarabelle on getting the GR! What a perfect post to get him :D

As for me :P I've been missing because I've got finals. My last one today, in fact. (Yes, a Saturday. Blech.)

Happy Second Anniversary, Banditas. Hard to believe another year has gone by. Looking forward to all your upcoming releases.

Congrats on your 20th anniversary with your DH, Aunty Cindy.

I love scenic covers, but don't really care for cartoon covers. I can appreciate those torso covers, but it would be nice to see a head on them every now and then. The last cover could be titled "My Favorite Ergonomic Body Pillow."

Congrats on the GR, Sarabelle.

HAPPY 2ND ANNIVERSARY BANDITAS !!!

This simply has to be the MOST happening place on the Net!! There is no such thing as a dull party i the Lair!

Congrats on nabbing the GR, Sarabelle! Watch him! He is a real party animal!!

I like artistic looking covers and I really do prefer my cover models with heads. Something disconcerting about all those headless people in tight clutches. Looks like something a serial killer would have on his wall.

Title 1 : Forever Comes Home

I see it as a story of a guy who comes home from the war to his high school sweetheart. The flowers are something special between them.

Title 2 : Chasing Glory

Her name is Glory. She is something of a free spirit and this staid, serious guy can't help but chase after her. She is fascinating to him and he can't figure out why because she is so unconventional she does things like stroll barefoot in the rain.

Title 3 : The Fairy Keeper

Our hero is a fairy. Our heroine is human. He ventures into the land of humans and she discovers the way to "keep" him with her always. He resents his captivity, but eventually finds himself falling in love with her. She falls in love with him and sets him free so he can make his own choice.

Title 4 : Dante's Inferno

His name is Dante and he is one hot lover. You could make it a Regency and have him be the Earl of Whitby. His mother was Italian, hence his name, and she had a WILD reputation. She died in an accident and her son has taken up her wild ways. And to tame him and win his heart, our heroine must enter Dante's Inferno and lead him to Heaven.

Okay, I am off to bed so that I can wake up in the morning and begin to enjoy my FOUR DAYS OFF !!!

PAR-TAY Hardy!!!

Technically our 2nd year in the blogosphere doesn't start until May 4th, but what the heck! We can party til then!

Congrats on the GR Sarabelle! His feathers do look lovely and fluffy, and I see he is decked out in the Vampire Cape he wore at RT!

Loucinda McGary aka Aunty Cindy said...

GOOD GOOD LUCK on that last final, Limecello!!!

Now when do you take the bar exam?!?!

We're all keeping our fingers xxed that you'll pass with flying colors, and don't forget to get a lovely massage from Sven when you finish off that exam.

Sarabelle,

Fornicating Fairies?!?!? OMGOSH! That is too funny!!!

Loucinda McGary aka Aunty Cindy said...

Hey Jane,
Thanx for the congrats, but the DH and I still have 3 weeks to go, and our Ever Lovin' Eric will be out in the newest Star Trek movie by then... (Aunty sighs heavily) Who cares if he's the evil alien villain?!?!

And "My Favorite Ergonomic Body Pillow" is quite a title. I don't think I'd have ever come up with THAT one!

AC

Loucinda McGary aka Aunty Cindy said...

WOW Louisa!
You gave not only titles but pitch blurbs. I'm mega-impressed!

"Chasing Glory" sounds GREAT for the barefoot girl with the umbrella. And making "Dante's Inferno" a Regency is positively inspired! Hey, now you need to WRITE THAT BOOK! Get busy woman, you have 4 whole days off. :-P

Hooray for two years!!! I can't believe it's only been two years! I can't believe it's already been two years!! What an awesome place, this Lair!

1. Till the Cows Come Home
She's tired of doing all the chores and farmwork and being unappreciated as a woman; he comes to his senses and realizes that she's not just the girl next door--he's going to love her until the cows come home... (He filched the flowers on the way over from his yard.)

2. Dancing in the Rain
Left her painful shoes behind, dancing towards a bright future...

3. In the Mists of the Loch Ness
Something to do with dragon shifters by the Loch Ness...

4. Dancing With the Stars, Blaze Version
Got dancing on the brain here! Dancing stars, and they're on fire!

Anyway, congrats on the GR, Sarabelle! Just in time for the party!

Loucinda McGary aka Aunty Cindy said...

Hey Fedora!
The Lair wouldn't be the same without YOU! ;-)

More blurbs WITH the awesome titles! Good thing we have lots of prizes to give away.

Photographic covers?
Cartoon covers?
Heads or no heads?
I'm going to be indecisive and say it depends on the photograph, the cartoon and the head. :D

Congrats on the two years, you guys! Cute pic of the GR with cape and mask!

Jane - I can't stop laughing at "My Favorite Ergonomic Body Pillow."! That's all I can think of when looking at that picture now. :D

Okay, if I don't come up with title suggestions, I can't win a prize, right? I never thought I'd say this but, I gotta stop winning stuff!

Huge Congratulations Ladies Romance Bandits is the best place on the net I say, it has been 2 fun filled years with so much laughter and doesn't time go fast when you are having fun.

I really feel as if I know you all personally and that we have been friends forever and one day I am going to meet you all one way or the other.

I am just about to go out for dinner at my Son & DIL place so I will be back when I get home and will be thinking about titles this is going to be good.

Thanks again everyone

Ah, I'm useless at titles...

And as for covers, you know what? I barely notice them anymore. I buy on recommendation, or authors I know and love, and not the worst or best of covers is likely to sway me. It's all about the blurb, baby - and maybe the first few lines...

Congrats on 2 years, Banditas!

Congrats Sarabelle on the GR and congrats Bandita's on your second anniversary. :)

That pic of the GR in the purple get up reminds me of Barnabus Collins from Dark Shadows for some reason. I'm hopeless with titles and I can only think of "evil" titles right now. Need a caffeine fix.

1.
2. Homeward Bound
3.
4. Self Control

I am back after a great dinner with the family now to these covers

1.The Farmhand and the Sunflower Girl
2. Running For Love
3.Mystic Surrender
This cover looks very mystical to me set in the Highlands of Soctland
4.Hot Nights In Hades. This one looks very hot

As for covers I am not to keen on the cartoon types I love scenic covers and either with a head or no head I don't mind the only thing that bugs me is if the hero or heroine in the story has dark hair and the picture on the front is someone with blond.

Congrats on the wedding anniversaries Jeanne and Aunty Cindy and I am looking forward to both of your new releases.

You are all such wonderful writers I have all of your books and am really looking forwad to reading the as yet unpublished authors as well I know it won't be long and I will be able to read them.

Have Fun

Happy Anniversary!!!

I haven't had a problem with any covers I've seen lately. Frankly, I'm way too attracted to most of them, and so my TBR pile is now huge! But some of my favorites are Kate's Homicide in Hardcover, which I also think would make a fun puzzle, and Trish's Heartbreak River, which is really stunning on a bookshelf (Trish, they were all facing out in B&N.) I love the happy faces, and babies!, on Harlequin American's, and I've bought way too many books just for a hot cover model's eyes (thank you, Anna). And cowboys...anyway, I'd have a bit more money now if there were more bad covers out there! ;)

Titles:
1)Prairie Serenade
2)Flight
3)Spellbound
4)Sweetest Taste of Sin

Have a great day, ladies!

Unknown said...

Congrats!!!!

Cover 1: I also love Till the Cows Come Home.

Cover 4: Tempted by the Flame

2. Maggie Poppins (Mary Poppin's daughter)

3. Mystic Romance

4. Bandita's Burning Touch
(Bedtime stories from the GR)

as far as covers go I most favor Torso's. I actually prefer not to see faces on the covers. I like to visualize my own from the authors discriptions.

And then our BB's! Man, ya'll rock and the Lair would not be the same without you! {Demetrius...stop eyeing Helen}

I love all your titles esp. the Ergonomic Pillow one LOL.

{sips on mimosa} OK the only one that I can come up with for the last one is "The Tango Master's Limber Housekeeper"

Not so good? Cabana boy! Bring me another tray and I'll work on it!

Congratulations, Banditas, on your second anniversary. May you celebrate many more years, and may they all be filled with award-winning bestsellers and ever-increasing numbers of loyal readers.

I can't title #1 because the first thing I thought of when I saw the cover was the Kenny Chesney song, and Michelle W. beat me to that title.

#2--Always Chasing Rainbows

#3--The Mists of Honalee

#4--Wake Me When It's Over (Sorry! I know that's a bad one, but I couldn't resist.)

2. I haz a umbrella but I dunno how to use it.

3. Ohmigodapteradactyl!

4. Dress Straps are Yummy and 100 Other Textile Delicacies.

OOO! Helen, Mystic Surrender is a GOOD ONE!

And Nikki, "Hey Come Back with My Car?" ROFLOL!!!

These titles are GREAT! Thank goodness we have lots of prizes. I'd have a terrible time narrowing it down to one or two.

ROFLOL!!!! P226 your titles are truly in a category all to themselves! Why does that surprise NO ONE?!?!

Having your refreshing male perspective in the Lair has been a great treat! The place wouldn't be the same without you or any of out BB!

Also, special shout out to Walt! My buddy from GIAMx3 who braves the estrogen encased Lair from time-to-time. Appreciate your support!

Hooray dear Banditas! Huge, HuGe, OMGHUGE congratulations on your second anniversary.

Two years together and y'all are still talking to each other and talking positively about each other. This looks like a HEA forever more to me.

And well, *koff*, since I'm also still here from that very first day, I must also be toes over ears in love with all of you.

Sarabelle, lucky you to have the GR himself be your escort for the party.

Loucinda McGary aka Aunty Cindy said...

Hi Catslady!

I LOIKE (as Duchesse says) "Into the Mist!" ANd a very big YES! to those lovely bare torsos!

I am glad mine has a head this time, even if the face is in shadows. Though I agree with Sarabelle and whomever said make the cover models at least vaguely resemble the characters. I usually do have my own visual of the characters (okay, okay THE HERO!) and he usually doesn't look much like the cover.

Hey everyone! Happy Birthday to US!!!

Seriously, can y'all believe it's been 2 whole years??!!?? Okay, 1046 posts suggests that yes it has been 2 years, that or we're a bunch of crazy posters with nothing much to do.

Sigh, since I'm on steroids this weekend and am not mixing them alcohol...I'll go into the Lair's kitchen and make Chicken Quesedillas! (Chicken, sauted onions and red bell peppers, lots of cheese) Anyone want one?

Loucinda McGary aka Aunty Cindy said...

Ah yes, Lovely Keira and her bonnets!

How can we ever thank you enough for hanging out with us here in the Lair and adding a touch of genteel class to the place when we desperately need it?!?!

"Misty Love Among Flaxed Locks" and "Taller, Hotter, Svelter" are very classy titles indeed! LOL! Hey wait, isn't that last one all about SVEN?!?!

from the post: Oh, yeah. Point. Okay. We DO need to remodel the caves. We'll have to bring it to the attention of our fellow Banditas at the next full convocation in DC. It's high time the writing caves got central heat and air. I keep getting cold down there. And they need better access to the kitchens and massage rooms. Seriously, it's a looonnnnngggg hike up those stone steps right now.Jeanne, the whole point of the cave it to make it miserable so you WANT to finish the book and get the heck OUT of it!!! Geesh!!

Ohhhhhhhh, you mean actual THUNDER.

How disappointing.

I like a good torso. Speaking of which Hugh Jackman's looks pretty darn good in Wolverine....

{Eyes Marcus as he dodges the Duchesses' hand}Hmmmm...very reminiscent of Hugh. "Oh, Marcus....another Anniversary margharita please"

Keira Soleore said...

AC asked, "Taller, Hotter, Svelter [is a] very classy title[s] indeed! LOL! Hey wait, isn't that last one all about SVEN?!?!"

The title describe Sven's girlfried, because it's always been his super-sekret fantasy to be with someone who's taller, skinnier, and hawt-er than hisself.

Jane, "My Favorite Ergonomic Body Pillow" is too perfect, and therefore A WINNER!

And P226 "Love in the Cow Pies" is truly inspired! Tell the Missus she's got a Bandita book to chose!

So Ladies, and Gentleman, please chose one of the Bandita books mentioned in my earlier post. Or if you prefer one of the Bandita goodies that's fine too. You can email us at our gmail account, or just post your choice right here on the blog.

Grazie mille for two splendid years online; looking forward to many more filled with entertainment on the page and (computer) screen from you all. :)

JT, did you know Marcus is one of my favorite Roman names? I also happen to like it applied to Regency heroes. So the new guy is off to a promising start as far as I'm concerned.

BTW, what's his weapon of choice?

Thanks to everybody for stopping by and wishing us well. I'm impressed with all the titles and so very glad I personally do not have to choose!

Jeanne (AKA The Duchesse) said...

*scuffs toe, looks abashed.* Sorry about the trident, Nancy. I was trying to work out this scene, you know? So I checked the trident out of the gladitor's closet to try and figure out this scene...anyway. I got the scene right and rushed off to get it down while it was fresh in my mind.

Must've left the trident in the foyer. Sorry!

Marcus! Oh, Marcus! *bats eyes at the new gladiator* When you've finished taking Deb down the hill for a sheild sledding, would you mind fetching that trident in the foyer - Nancy, did you put it in the corner? - anyway, put it up for me, will you?

Memoirs of a 4-H Floozy ?? SNORT PJ !! Now I need to clean the tea off my monitor.

Lord of the Flings ??? Oh that is just BAD !!! LOL !! I love it!

I just thought about it and why not

1. HE thinks my tractor's sexy ! Why does it have to be HIS tractor?

Of course my truly evil side says we should call it SOWING HIS WILD OATS and make it the story of him coming home from a one night stand with some hometown hoochie and bringing her some guilt flowers. She then hitches up the tractor and chases him all over the field and plows him into that field. Eventually all of her girlfriends find out and all of their cheatin' boyfriends / husbands suffer a similar fate.

Louisa Cornell said...

Hmm. On number two we could call it

Revenge of the Ugly Stepsisters - Cinderella gets thrown out of the house in the rain minus her shoes and has to chase down the prince to try on the slipper.

Number Three - I'm still cracking up over the OmyGoditsapteradactyl!

And then there's Fornicating Fairies. Nothing will top that!

Number Four -

Someone's in the Kitchen with Dinah
(call the fire brigade!)

PJ, did you really man Going Down ON Flame ???

Congratulations on 2 years!!!

1. The Deflowering of Tammy Jones
2. I Can't Dance by Ava Astaire
3. I see this one and all I think of is an old man. So I'm going to say The Old Man and the Bluebird.
4. Sleeping on Samantha

Oh, and to answer the question about the covers. I like the historical covers with the women (usually headless) in beautiful gowns or the bare chested hot hunk covers.

In response to my comment on his "owning" his moniker, p226 wrote: I suspect Sig Sauer may disagree. And by disagree, I mean with lawyers and such.Lawyers tend to be quarrelsome; it's in the job description. So much better not to involve them. We'll just keep "own" in quotes.

"Sleeping On Samantha"?!?! TOO FUNNY, Kammie!

And I agree about the beautiful gowns on women on historical covers. Both Christine and Donna have those on their latest releases and them are GREAT!

I just realized I never answered the cover questions. I'm not a fan of clinch covers but have become so used to them that I barely notice.

I prefer painted covers to photographs, but as long as the cover is engaging, it doesn't make a lot of difference.

Cartoon covers are okay on romantic comedies. I expect humor to go with a cartoon.

And I prefer that torsos have faces above them. Preferably attached.

Nancy,
I'm afraid you would know too well about the quarrelsome nature of lawyers. :-P

Our three "legally inclined" Banditas are not the least bit quarrelsome, unless of course, someone threatens the gladiators, cabana boys, or the chocolate. ;-)

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY.!!!!!!!!!!

DH and I will celebrate 43 years in July - if I let him live until then - just kidding - I guess I'll keep him around for another 43.

Not very good at this so here goes:

#1 - Love In Left Field

#2 - Shoeless Street Struttin'

#3 - Mountain High Love

#4 - Flaming Hot Desire

Miranda Neville said...

Late to the celebration but congratulations to the Banditas for two years of nonstop merriment. You are an amazingly talented and extremely entertaining bunch of women. (I assume you are women but perhaps you are in fact avians. There has to be a reason for the rooster thing).

"Happy Birthday, Banditas, Happy
Birthday To You!!!"

1. Shy Surprises
2. Under Cover
3. Haze On The Horizon
4. Fiery Interlude

Thanks, Banditas, for letting us
take part in the excitement that
is the Lair!
