If Books Could Kill - Sneak Preview!

I'm thrilled to reveal--to my close personal friends in the Lair only!--my new cover for book two of the Bibliophile Mystery series, IF BOOKS COULD KILL!

Isn’t it fun? There’s a cat, of course. And there are books and various bookbinder's tools and instruments of destruction. There's a book fair going on outside the window. And there's blood on the bookbinder's hammer.

And yeah, that's a really BIG cat. Uhh ... don't look now, but I think it got bigger when I wasn't looking.

Hmm. Anyway, here's the back cover blurb ………..

A haunted city, a forbidden masterpiece, and a deadly threat are all in a day’s work in the life of this brilliant bookbinder….

Book restoration expert Brooklyn Wainwright is happy to be attending the world-renowned Edinburgh Book Fair. But then her ex, Kyle McVee, shows up with a bombshell. He has an original copy of a scandalous text that could change history—and humiliate the beloved British monarchy.

Trying to get Kyle’s story out of her mind, Brooklyn takes a nighttime ghost tour of the city. Unfortunately, the first landmark contains a real dead body…Kyle’s. The police are convinced Brooklyn’s the culprit, but with an entire convention of suspects, Brooklyn begins conducting her own investigation. Before she can crack the case, she’ll have to find out if the motive for murder was a 200-year-old secret—or something much more personal…

Cool, huh? IF BOOKS COULD KILL won't be out until February, 2010, but I couldn't resist sharing it with y'all now. Let me know what you think!

So if it wasn't obvious to everyone, I love mysteries! My favorites are the traditional series featuring an amateur sleuth and a hunky hero type who tangles with her as she tries to solve the crime. After all, who doesn't like a little romance with their mystery? Here are two of my newest favorites ...

SECONDHAND SPIRITS, a witchcraft mystery, by Juliet Blackwell. I love Juliet Blackwell! (She also writes as Hailey Lind and her Art Lover's mysteries are not to be missed.) This series features a witch who's recently moved to San Francisco and must deal with murder and child kidnapping as well as a gorgeous and powerful male witch named Aiden and a hunky "myth buster" named Max. The blend of mystery, romance and a touch of paranormal is awesome and her witchy details are fantastic.

Judi McCoy, a name that should be familiar to romance readers, has a new mystery series featuring a New York City dog walker who can actually hear what her canine clientele are saying. The first book in the series is HOUNDING THE PAYMENT and protagonist Ellie and her doggy clients must solve the crime before another dog is stolen and Ellie becomes the victim of a ruthless killer. Oh, and never fear, there's a very hot detective watching Ellie's every move. Yum!

There are so many other great series out there, I wish I had enough room to talk about all of them. But I can highly recommend Kate Collins's Flower Shop mysteries, Victoria Laurie's Psychic Eye mysteries, Lorna Barrett's Booktown mysteries, and Rosemary Harris's Gardening mysteries. And I'm really looking forward to Wendy Lyn Watson's first book in her new Mystery a la Mode series (something tells me she'll be stopping by the Lair sometime soon!).
Have you read any good mysteries lately? Do you like them with a touch of romance? Yup, me, too! I have a special mystery basket to give away to one lucky commenter today that includes goodies and books from all the above authors!

Ahhh Kate! I love the cover! I also hate you! :X Why? Because... I do not read mysteries. I DO NOT. I also DO NOT read books that have open ended ... endings. It's why I read romances, really. Cliff hangers are not part of my world.
However, I read Homicide in Hardcover and I *loved* it... I plan on re-reading it, in fact.
I can't believe we have to wait so so long before the next in the series! Haha - does it end with book two? :X I need closure! The happily ever after!
I also never thought I'd be so very fascinated with moldy paper. :D
Congratulations on the new cover though - I absolutely love it, and think it fits with the previous one perfectly.

I can't wait for your second Bibliophile book to come out, Kate! HOMICIDE IN HARDCOVER was delightfully delicious!

And it was a nice break from the usual dark mysteries I read. I love Anne Perry's series, both the William Monk and the Thomas Pitt series.

And of course I love JD Robb's In Death series which has a wonderful blend of darkness and light humor.

Rats - I looked at the clock and thought I might have a chance at the GR but Lime beat me to it!

Love the new cover, Kate. And the cat has grown bigger due to your bigger stature now that Homicide in Hardcover hit the NYT list. I'm sure this one will follow suit.

Fedora said...

Ooh, congrats, Kate! Looking forward to the next installment, but as Lime said, down with cliff hangers! ;) Give me closure and the HEA!

That said, lighter mysteries intrigue me. The darker stuff is just too intense for me!

Congrats on the GR, Lime!

Gorgeous cover, Kate. I can't wait to read the book. I loved Homicide in Hardcover so much that I also bought copies for two of my best friends. This one sounds just as good.

I read almost as many mysteries as I do romances. Favorites include Margaret Maron, Julia Spencer-Fleming, Carolyn Hart, Lee Harris, Dorothy Cannell, Charlaine Harris (not the Sookie Stackhouse books). I miss Anne George's books, and I reread my collection of mysteries by older mystery writers like Leslie Ford and Rae Foley. I could keep going. :)

Grea cover !!
Those books seem like great reads... more to add to my TBB list ;-)
I read some mysteries, not A LOT, but I do read some and of course I need a touch of romance, otherwise it's always frustrating (Great hero and no love interest ???? grrrrr).

Congrats lime on getting the rooster!

Oh Kate I love mysteries! I haven't been reading many mysteries lately I have been on historicals, I about to switch off of them and read something else! The last mystery I read was Homicide in Hardcover and I really loved it! I can't wait to read your new one, love the cover by the way!

Right now I'd love to read "The Mystery of the Vanishing Dentist". The fillings disappeared from my tooth and it should be filled again -the sooner the better, but the dentist doesn't have time until 2 months from now. And she's on a part time retirement, too. Why they can't hire one more dentist, is beoynd me. ARRRGH!

Yargh! Is it February 2010 yet?? Can't wait! Also, hee, love the title.

The last mystery I read might've been one of Elizabeth George's Inspector Lynley novels or a reread of a Dick Francis novel. I don't need my mysteries to have a touch of romance in 'em but when would I ever say no to some?? :D

Anna Campbell said...

Kate, what a gorgeous cover! You must be dancing around like Snoopy in happiness. Your last cover was so great and this one keeps up the standard - congratulations! And the book sounds fantastic too. Yay, you, Bandita!

Congrats on another gorgeous cover, Kate! I loved Homicide in Hardcover and have been eagerly anticipating Brooklyn's next adventure. It sounds terrific!

Oooh - gorgeous cover, Kate! Wish we didn't have to wait so long for your second Bibliophile book - I LOVED Homicide in Hardcover.

I enjoy reading mysteries too, but sadly don't get the time. I keep meaning to start picking up books by authors like Joanna Fluke, but fear if I start a new genre my office will disappear beneath a new TBR mountain! There are so many - you only have to go along the shelf in B&N to see how many you could pick up. And I have to start at the beginning of a series!

The only mysteries I read regularly right now are Elaine Viets fabulous Dead End Jobs series, Carole Nelson Douglas' awesome Midnight Louie series and Carrie Bebris' spectacular Mr and Mrs Darcy mysteries. And, of course, JD Robb *g*.

I do like that romance element and I also like amateur sleuths who have an interesting job like the cooks *g*

I have to wait until 2010 to get this book??!! That sucks, I want it now. I love the blue edging and of course the cat. I have a space all ready on my keeper shelf.

Good morning, my darlings!! Sorry I'm a bit late. I've been traveling all over the place and today I've landed in a strange land they call B...U...F...F...A...L...O...?

Ah, Buffalo!! :-) Hmm, not quite as exotic as our KJ's travels but still delightful ...

We're having a big family wedding this weekend so that's going to be lovely and I'm very excited. But I'm a bit jet-lagged ... {{splashing cold water into my face}} ... ah, much better!

Good morning and congratulations, Lime!! You've caught the bird, you wily feather-wrangler, you!! Have fun!

I'm so happy you enjoyed HIH! Ooh, and sorry you don't like those mystery cliffhangers! I know what you mean, I do love my HEAs, too. Now, I don't want to give anything away, but let's just say book two ends...traditionally. {wink wink!}

traveler said...

The cover is striking and amazing. Congratulations. I enjoy mysteries greatly. All of Deborah Crombie's novels had me riveted. Elizabeth George writes wonderful stories as does Daphne Du Maurier. Great post today.

Kate Carlisle said...

Good morning, Jo! Ooh, delightfully delicious. Thank you! I Love that!!

And I couldn't agree with you more on JD Robb. She's absolutely my favorite dark read. Talk about delicious! And sexy. I re-read that series every year. Love 'em!

Kate Carlisle said...

Ah, Donna, thank you for your NYT theory! Sweet!

And sorry you missed out on the Golden One this time. Gotta be vigilant to beat out our Limecello! LOL

Kirsten said...

Kate, I'm always just in awe of your ability to write mysteries. I can never figure them out when I'm reading, let alone plan one out myself. I swear you must be a genius to pull it off -- not to mention weaving in the romance on top of it! Brava to you, girl!!

Kate Carlisle said...

Hi Fedora! Yes, for us romance readers, those mystery cliffhangers are a bit of a drag, aren't they? I mean, the couple has gone to all that trouble to catch a killer and restore order. They should be rewarded, right? LOL.

But I must admit I'm finding that after reading so many cozy mysteries lately, I'm starting to enjoy the titillation, hee hee!

Kirsten said...

Oh man, Kate, you're in Buffalo!? Say hi to mom and dad for me!! :-) It isn't snowing yet, is it? LOL.

Joan said...

Check that hammer for paw prints!

Forget the butler! The cat did it!

Dang, that cat DID get bigger. By the time you get to your 20th in this series he'll be a mountain lion!:-)

LOVE the cover!

To be frank, I had not really been reading mysteries until HIH. What an AWESOME book! Masterfully done as I'd be reading and think "Oh! This person did it." then "No, no..that one. Um, maybe that one?" Until the very end.

And you know I've begged you to explore Brooklyn's relationship with that sexy British operative. Will he be back?

Kate Carlisle said...

Janga, I love you!! Thank you so much for your HIH love and for passing it along to your friends. I'm honored! I hope you love book two, too!

That's a great list of authors you mentioned. I'm so glad you enjoy mysteries as much as I do. I like rereading my faves, too. :-)

Kate Carlisle said...

Hi Emmanuelle, thanks for stopping by today! Yes, just what we all need--more books for our TBB/TBR piles! LOL

I agree, it's just not fair for that hunky hero to work so hard, then be left wanting, right? Hee hee! Maybe that's why I like to alternate between my mystery and romance reads. :-)

limecello said...

Ahhh Kate! You're so naughty. Haha leaving a cliff hanger in book one, then taunting us with book two when we have to wait *eons* before we get it!
[Yes I'm in fine form this morning.] I cannot wait for "If Books Could Kill"! Eeee :D

Kate Carlisle said...

Hi Virginia! I'm so happy you enjoyed HIH! Thanks! Hope you love the next book, too!

I think I read like you do. I'll get on a mystery jag and that's all I read. Then all of a sudden, a switch gets flipped and I start on historicals. Or paranormals. Oh, and when I read our Beth's latest SuperRomance, I enjoyed it so much, I had to go out and buy all the other SuperRomances that month. Does that make me Obsessive? I like to think I'm just a good reader. :-)

CrystalGB said...

I love Kate Collins' series. I also like Patricia Cornwell's books.

Kate Carlisle said...

LOL Minna! Great name for a mystery! But ugh, dentists. I can't believe they can't fit you in sooner. It sounds like an emergency to me. Good luck!

And I'm giggling over Weird Al! Thanks for the link. :-)

Kate Carlisle said...

Hey Pissenlit! Good to see you! I'm glad you like my new title. I think it's really fun, if I do say so myself. :-)

I'm a big Dick Francis fan, too! I went a little crazy a few years ago and read every one of his books I could get my hands on. He's brilliant! And Elizabeth George is wonderful, too. Her books are so dark and fascinating. I didn't even nmind when she killed off ... oops, better not spoil it for anyone. :-)

Kate Carlisle said...

Anna darling!! Yes, I'm dancing with happiness--and people are starting to talk! Oh, but when has that ever stopped me, hmm? ;-)

Thanks for the congrats and good thoughts. And right back at you, my dear!! The reviews are coming in on your latest--and wow, I can't wait to read it!! I expect you to top all the lists! Yeah!!

Kate Carlisle said...

Hi, PJ! Thanks so much for the Congrats! You were so generous with your review of HIH, I'm still in awe! I really hope you enjoy Brooklyn's next adventure. :-)

Kate Carlisle said...

Hi Anna! I'm so happy you enjoyed HIH! I really hope IF BOOKS COULD KILL (IBCK?? LOL) makes you happy, too. :-)

It's funny you should mention Joanne Fluke because I recently won her book, CARROT CAKE MURDER, in the most adorable basket that also included all sorts of really nice baking utensils such as a grater, peeler, cake thermometer, hot pad, plus some of the ingredients, like sugar and walnuts and raisins. Honestly, it was so clever, it made me wish I wrote bakery murders! LOL

Kate Carlisle said...

Hi Dianna! The cover's cute, isn't it? Thank you for saving a space for it on your shelf! That's so nice. :-)

And yes, I'm sorry to say, you have to wait until February for the new book. LOL. But I have it on good authority that it'll be here before I know it. Ack!

Kate Carlisle said...

Hi Jane! You sound like a purist when it comes to mysteries. Those my favorite classic mystery writers, too. I grew up reading Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie and still remember those wonderful stories. And PD James' Cordelia Gray books were my faves, too. :-)

Jennifer Lyon said...

Kate, love the new cover! The blurb is enticing and I'm ready to launch into Brooklyn's next adventure. I can't believe I have to wait until Feb 2010!

I really enjoy mysteries with a touch or romance. There usually more at stake from the amateur sleuth with a little romance muddying up the waters.

I just realized I haven't been reading mysteries lately, but you gave me a fine list to dive back in with.

Minna said...

Agatha Christie, Arthur Conan Doyle and Dorothy L. Sayers are some of my favorite authors.

Kate, I just read yesterday from the newspaper this article that had been written by a guy who had needed a dentist even more urgently than I do -he was in serious pain- he called all over and couldn't get a dentist. One of them had even asked why he hadn't called sooner. Oh yeah, "my tooth will start aching 21st of September. Would the dentist have time for me then?" =P Some things have definitely gone downhill since my county joined the town of Joensuu.

Kate Carlisle said...

Hey, Deb Marlowe!! Howdy! I love Amelia Peabody! Forgot to mention her! I love historical mysteries. Deanna Raybourn, Tasha Alexander, and I'm determined to start reading C.S. Harris's Sebastian St. Cyr series. It sounds fabulous!

Any other recommendations for historical mysteries?

Ooh, and that Caren Crane is a real pusher, isn't she? Diabolical!! ;-)

Kate Carlisle said...

Hi, Racingboo! Thanks so much for your lovely words about my book cover. :-)

Maureen Child said...

Kate, what a great cover!!! the cat is a little overwhelming, but pretty. What a pretty cat!

I loved Second Hand Spirits too. Wish we didn't have to wait so long between releases though!

Can hardly stand the wait for IF BOOKS COULD KILL!

Kate Carlisle said...

You're not too late, Mariska! Thanks for coming by! I really like Karen Rose, too. I don't know how she keeps going, writing one fabulously scary book after another! She rocks!

Kate Carlisle said...

Hi, Helen! I'm so glad you liked HIH! I remember you won my contest earlier this year. That was so much fun!

And now I'm dying to read Bronwyn Parry! Those books sound fabulous. I'm going to scurry over to Amazon and check her out. Thanks for the recommendation!

Kate Carlisle said...

Hi traveler! Thanks for your kind words about my book cover. :-)

I agree, Elizabeth George and Daphne Du Maurier are both masters of the genre! And since I haven't read Deborah Crombie yet, I'm excited to get started. Thank you for the recommendation!

You all are helping me grow my TBR pile. It wasn't high enough already! :-)

Janga said...

Regarding mysteries--I have a new addiction. I just discovered a few weeks ago that Netflix has all these great BBC films of mystery classics that I can watch on my laptop. I've already watched Christie's Miss Marple, Sayers' Lord Peter and Harriet, and Marsh's Inspector Alleyn. I just started Allingham's Campion. Instant gratification--I love it! :)

Kate Carlisle said...

Hey Kirsten! Aww, you're so cute to think I'm actually smart enough to write mysteries! LOL. I'm not!! On the other hand ... the romance part of it ... yes, I'm absolutely smart enough to know my girl needs a hunky secret agent to hang out with! Oh yeah!

I'm waving to your mom and dad as I type!! Yes, I do have three hands, ha ha! The weather is beautiful in Buffalo, as always. It's gorgeous, sunny, not too hot, with big fat white clouds in the blue sky. Perfect. There's a possibility of some rain tomorrow, but no snow on the horizon. It's gorgeous!

Kate Carlisle said...

Joanie, my darling friend! Yes, the cat keeps getting bigger, doesn't it? I think book three will be titled "The Cat That Ate My Book."

I'm soooo glad you enjoyed HIH. And OF COURSE our sexy British agent will be back! I'm not even going to try to tease anyone about that. I'm not ashamed to admit I love Derek Stone! :-)

Kate Carlisle said...

Yes Lime, I'm being very naughty. Hee hee! And you ARE in fine form as well. Must be all those rooster feathers in the air...

Hi Crystal! I'm so glad you're a Kate Collins fan! I love her Flower Shop mysteries. And talk about a hunky hero! Her Marco is loverly, isn't he? Yum. :-)

Oh, hey, it's my favorite witch! Hi Jennifer Lyon!! Thanks for your kind words about Brooklyn. I hope you love her new adventure. :-)

And everyone should rush right out and pick up Jen's BLOOD MAGIC so you can read it in time to buy SOUL MAGIC, which comes out in exactly one month! I'm counting the days, seriously. This series, featuring her wing-slayer hunters, is positively AWESOME!! Just sayin'. ;-)

Kate Carlisle said...

Oh Minna, I'm a huge Dorothy L. Sayers fan! I fell in love with Lord Peter years ago and heartily recommend her to everybody. She might be my favorite, now that I think about it. I wish the BBC would re-do some of her stories.

That dentist story is classic. Right, we're all supposed to look into the future and know we'll be in pain on that particular day. It's crazy!

Kate Carlisle said...

Hi Maureen! Yes, that cat is a bit overwhelming, isn't it? Uhh, I suggest we all walk very carefully ... nice kitty ... pretty kitty ... BIG kitty ...

Ooh, I'm so glad you enjoyed SECONDHAND SPIRITS! Wasn't it great? But dang, I hate waiting so long for the next one, too! Ah well, her books are definitely worth waiting for. :-)

Kate Carlisle said...

Ohh, Janga, that's brilliant! I'm going to go check out Netflix to see if I can get all those Lord Peter Wimsey episodes. Thanks!

catslady said...

Anything with a cat in it is a winner for me lol. I love mysteries. I really don't need HEA. I like a bit of variety and I like when I can't figure out an ending.

Pissenlit said...

Kate - I'm a big Dick Francis fan, too! I went a little crazy a few years ago and read every one of his books I could get my hands on. He's brilliant!

Oh, agreed! I have every single one of his books all shelved in order of publication and I do rereads through them all sometimes. Actually, I think I have one or two in both HC and MMPB. Heh heh. Okay that makes me sound a little nutty. :D

And Elizabeth George is wonderful, too. Her books are so dark and fascinating. I didn't even nmind when she killed off ... oops, better not spoil it for anyone. :-)

Ooooh, eeeeeeevil tauntress! Heh heh, though I think I know who you're referring to. I picked up the books after having watched the BBC Inspector Lynley Mysteries show.

Karin said...

I love the cover! It's really cute.

I love mysteries. Following along the path the hero and heroine take as they figure out the mystery through the course of the book, or books, is a lot of fun for me. Adding romance in there makes them better for me. It's the excitement of taking that journey together that keeps me coming back again and again.

Becke Davis said...

Oh, I am excited to read Kate's new book! Kate, I posted an update about this at B&N's Mystery Book Club today.

I have HOUNDING THE PAVEMENT in my TBR pile, but haven't read it yet. Honestly, I'm reading as fast as I can!

Kate Carlisle said...

Why catslady, I had no idea you liked cats! LOL

Isn't that a beautiful cat on the cover? Once I saw it, I had to do a little kitty research in order to have the cat that showed up in the book match up with its picture on the cover.

Did that make sense? LOL

Kate Carlisle said...

Hey Pissenlit, no one here in the Lair would ever think you were nutty about your books! LOL. Nope, we can completely relate. :-)

I do enjoy the BBC version of the Inspector Lynley mysteries, especially Nathaniel Parker, who plays Lynley. Oh, yeah. :-)

Kate Carlisle said...

Hi Karin, I love what you said about mysteries! Since they're not romances, per se, I'm okay with the characters moving more slowly, relationship-wise. It's really about the mystery unfolding. If the heroine and hero can weather a crazed killer stalking them (hee hee!) then they should definitely get their HEA ... eventually. :-)

Kate Carlisle said...

Hi Becke! Ooh, I'm going to go check out the update over at B&N! That's sweet of you! Thanks so much!!

You're going to love Judi's HOUNDING THE PAVEMENT, especially if you love dogs. It's fabulous. And her romance roots definitely show in this mystery because her detective hero is fabulous--and so sexy!!

Becke, I know you're reading fast, but read faster!! LOL

No mystery why the GR ended up with Lime ! He just LOVES to visit her!

Kate, the new cover is GORGEOUS!! It will look lovely sitting next to my autographed copy of HIH !! Glad I got it at Nationals as my Mom has kidnapped the first copy I bought. We BOTH loved Homicide in Hardcover and can't wait for If Books Could Kill !! And it takes place in one of my favorite places - Edinburgh!

I do love mysteries and don't have nearly enough time to read them. There is a series by Dean James that feature a gay vampire from Mississippi living in and English village. Baked to Death, Posted to Death, Decorated to Death, etc and I LOVE them all.

Anything by Karen Rose is guaranteed to make you think and scare you to death.

Of course LaCampbell got me hooked on the C.S. Harris books and the mysteries in those are deep, dark, shocking and you never know who did it until the last minute. Love 'em!

Joyce and Jim Lavene write a series featuring an over 40 heroine, Peggy Lee, and her veterinarian boyfriend and her neurotic Great Dane named Shakespeare. They are loads of fun and really well written.

Of course I also love all of the Amanda Quick mysteries and Deanna Raybourn's Lady Julia Gray mysteries too.

Now if I could just solve the mystery of who knocked over the lamp in the living room for the third day in a row. And all of the suspects have four legs and fur!

Beth Andrews said...

Kate, what a gorgeous cover! I loved Homicide in Hardcover and can't wait for If Books Could Kill *g*

The last mystery I read was more romantic suspense (yes, I love romance with my mystery *g*) and that was Nora Roberts' Tribute - great bok :-)

I'll definitely check out some of your suggestions, though! I'm always on the look-out for new authors.

Minna said...

I wonder if Lord Peter and Harriet series would be on DVD in the library... I actually saw the series before I read the books -including the one Sayers never had the chance to finish herself.

Right, we're all supposed to look into the future and know we'll be in pain on that particular day. It's crazy!

I think they have seen Back to the Future too many times.

I love a good mystery and just finished Avalanche by Patrick McManus. It had a good bit of humor in it.
Also these were good- Camelback Falls by Jon Talton and When A Man Loves a Weapon by Toni McGee Causey.
I met Juliet Blackwell at a book signing and she is a lovely person. Really enjoyed her talk about her new series featuring the witch.

Keira Soleore said...

Kate, lookee-it your new cover. It's just as purty as your first. I'm so glad they kept the style the same to give your stories and you the writer a series effect.

My latest two mysteries were C.S. Harris's WHERE SERPENTS SLEEP and Deborah Crombie's WHERE MEMORIES LIE.

. I'm really looking forward to Crombie's next one coming in October and Harris's next one in November. Sebastian St. Cyr—yeah!

Keira Soleore said...

And Kate....way to go on making my TBB and then the TBR much bigger. I have not read any of the authors you've mentioned in your blog. But they are all on my list to buy for October now.

Kate Carlisle said...

Oh man, Louisa, you're making me so anxious to find some C.S. Harris books NOW! And the gay Mississippi vampire sounds fabulous! I wonder if I can sneak out during the wedding to go book shopping ... okay, no. Can't do that. LOL

Edinburgh is one of my favorite cities, too. I hope I did it justice. There wasn't enough room for all the city scenes I wanted to include!

And thanks so much for your cute comments about HIH and the new cover. By the way, I think I love your mom. :-)

Good luck with the mystery of the fallen lamp! LOL

Kate Carlisle said...

Hi Beth! Thanks for loving HIH! Hearing that never gets old. :-)

Oh wow, Nora knows how to add plenty of romance to her mysteries, doesn't she? I want to thank you for mentioning me in the same comment block! Hee hee!

Hey Minna, if your library has BBC series, they might have Lord Peter. Good luck! And lots of luck with your dentist woes. :-(

Hi Pat! Great to see you over here! Thanks for the congrats on the cover. I'm pretty happy with it. :-)

Deidre, I think it's cool that everyone's reading Sookie Stackhouse now that TRUE BLOOD is on. She definitely has romance wrapped up in the mystery!

Kate Carlisle said...

Hi Joye! I've got Toni McGee Causey's book on my TBR pile but I'll be moving it up to the top now! And how fun that you met Juliet Blackwell. I met her at the UCLA book fair last year, also. She's great! And her new witchcraft series is fabulous--if I didn't make that clear earlier! LOL.

Keira!! How are ya?? You're giving me more reason to go out and find C.S. Harris. I'm getting itchy now!! LOL ...... so yeah, it's only fair that I add to your TBR pile since you're adding to mine!

Aww, Pissenlit, I'm so glad you hang out here with us! We can all be crazy together! :-)

I must admit I'm very little familiar with contemporary romantic mysteries - but I'm madly in love with the Falco series in Imperial Rome by Lindsey Davis, the Peabody series in 19th centry Egypt by Elizabeth Peters, and the medieval monk series by Ellis Peters.

I'm happy to be educated about more modern stories!

Gorgeous cover, Kate, and I love that title! As for mysteries... well, I haven't really read many. I like everything with a touch of romance, though, so I'm sure I'd lean that way with mysteries too. The few that I've read do have romantic elements - Deanna Raybourne's series, for example. But to really figure out what I like, I guess I'll just have to start reading more mysteries! Do you have a suggestion for a good book to start with?

Hi Kate,
I loved HOMICIDE IN HARDCOVER! It was such a fun book.

Love the title and cover of the latest book. Can't wait to read it though 2010 sounds so far away still. I hope Derek makes an appearance.;)

I've read a lot of Robert Goddard's mysteries. I also like Gabaldon's Lord John series, and I have Harris's St Cyr series on my TBR pile (thanks to Anna!)

I love the premise of your bookbinder series. I am definitely picking it up come February! What's not to love? Books, murder, mystery, cats, and more books!!

I am also looking forward to Wendy's I Scream, You Scream. She's SO good. I just finished Pushing Up Daisies, and am now searching for a new series. The Art Lovers series you mention sounds really fun.

Can't wait for your book!
