Launch Party!!

It’s party time again in the lair.

Today we’re celebrating Christmas a little early with my October release, SCANDAL OF THE SEASON. So sit back and have the cabana boys bring you some eggnog or any other holiday drink. Sven has his Santa cap on and is giving out free massages.

Scandal of the Season is the book I’d wanted to write ever since I first started writing about a particular secondary character in my first book Every Night I’m Yours. As soon as I started interacting Anthony Somerton with some of the other characters in the book, I knew he must have his own story. Somerton is the most alpha hero I’ve written to date. He's a sarcastic rake who didn’t seem to care about anything. So I immediately knew there must be some dark secret he was keeping from everyone. And there was, it just took me a book or two to figure it out. (yeah, that's my muse for Somerton--Jensen Ackles from Supernatural)

But the issue that held me up was which of the spinsters would be a perfect match for him. Somehow, I just knew that the timid mouse, Victoria Seaton might just be his match. You wouldn’t expect a shy, retiring woman to match wits with a sarcastic rake, right? But Victoria isn’t what she seems. Her entire identity is a fraud, created to make her look better in the eyes of society. And she is far from the timid mouse everyone believes she is.

Here is the back cover for the book:

For ten years, Anthony Westfield, Viscount Somerton, hasn’t been able to forget the woman with whom he spent one scandalous night. When their paths cross again, he’s shocked to discover Victoria Seaton is an accomplished pickpocket. But Somerton leads a double life of his own. Working on an undercover assignment, he makes Victoria a proposition: pretend to be his mistress or risk ruin. Yet soon he’s tempted to turn their charade into reality—and surrender to an explosive passion…

Victoria can’t believe the man who almost destroyed her life a decade ago is now threatening to unravel her secrets. But posing as his mistress at a holiday country party is a game she can play well. For just one look into Somerton’s eyes still weakens her with lust. And with Christmas fast approaching, every kiss they share under the mistletoe only makes Victoria fall more deeply in love…

Now, sit back and tell me what holiday drink you’re enjoying today. While you’re at it, tell me what you think about alpha heroes— like them, hate them, why? And since it’s Christmas in October today, what do you want for holidays (whichever holiday you celebrate).

I'm giving away two copies of Scandal of the Season today. Just leave a comment for a chance to win!

I would be drinking some holiday eggnog, spiked of course. I do like alpha heroes because they are strong take charge kind of guys. Let me see, for Christmas I'd like some candles, I love candles.

Fedora said...

Ooh, some spiced cider, please! The weather's changed in the last day or so, and it's sure nippy here now! Just the right weather for some warm drinks and soup!

Congrats on Scandal of the Season, Christie! And congrats on the GR, Linda! :)

Sheree said...

Eggnog for me, too. I'm saving the champagne for later.

Alpha heroes are fun to read but only if interspersed with other types of heroes in my literary diet.

As for what I want for Christmas, I can't think that far ahead. Maybe the 90,000 miles-checkup on my car?

Happy launch day, Christie. This sounds like it will be a fun read. Tt's definitely going into my wish list.

Now for a very important question: what else is Sven wearing aside from the Santa hat?

Christine Wells said...

WOOHOO!! Happy R-Day, Christie!

This book sounds like a lot of fun. I love it when a supposedly meek female ends up having a lot of chutzpah and knocks the hero's socks (stockings?) off!

Whatever the season, my drink of choice is always champagne, dahling! Preferably pink:) Sven, be a dear and haul out a vat of Veuve tout de suite!

I love reading about Christmas in the northern hemisphere. Did you have to do a bit of research to find some nice Christmas traditions? Of course, the mistletoe is always the best Christmas tradition for a romance novel! Congratulations on the release, Christie! Looking forward to reading it.

Congrats on getting the bird, Linda!

Congratulations on the new book! Eggnog is probably my favorite holiday drink although it is tough for me to make my brain think about the holidays since it is still stuck in summer which is why I have no idea what I want for Christmas.

Whoooooooooo Hoooooooooo a Launch Party!!

Mega Congrats on this one, Christie!! I've been waiting for this story for a lonnnnnnnnnnng time!! And I LOVE your inspirtaion for Somerton. YUMMO!!

It's a bit chilly this morning in Big D,(46 whole degrees...yeah!!!) so I think I'll have a nice mug of mulled wine, if you please, Sven. And you can just serve me over by Christine on the sofa.

pjpuppymom said...

Congrats, Christie! I've been waiting to read this book ever since the release of your first book in the series. Anthony fascinated me and I just knew his story was going to be special. I wasn't wrong! :)

It's still early here, and chilly, so I think I'll start out with some hot chocolate laced with Kahlua. I'll be back for some of that delicious homemade eggnog later! :)

Anna Sugden said...

YAY Christie! Thrilled that your latest book is finally out there - look forward to receiving my copy from the Amazon pigeon sometime soon.

I enjoy reading alpha heroes, though I seem to have trouble writing them *g* and I sure wouldn't want to be married to one! On second thoughts, you can't get more alpha than hockey hunks, so maybe I don't have a problem with them after all!

I'm keeping my holiday drink simple and a perfect tipple to celebrate with - a nice, crisp glass of champagne!

Christie Kelley said...

Hi Linda, congrats on the GR!

Christie Kelley said...

Linda, I have never had spiked eggnog. It sounds great but I've never made it. Do you have a good recipe or just toss some rum into it?

I love candles too. Unfortunately, my husband is very sensitive to scents so I can't have many scented candles.

Christie Kelley said...

Hi Fedora, spiced cider sounds great. We've gotten a lot cooler in the past couple of days, too. I even made pumpkin bread two days ago.

Thanks on the congrats!

Christie Kelley said...

Hi Sheree, another eggnog fan. My youngest can't wait for the eggnog to hit the grocery stores. He loves it.

As far as the 90,000 mile checkup, I can understand wanting that for Christmas. I just paid for my 60,000 mile checkup and it was so expensive!

Christie Kelley said...

Hi Blodeuedd, how do you make spiced wine without the alcohol? I need to know because I think my husband would love it. But he's not much of a drinker.

And yay, for wanting books for Christmas!!!

Christie Kelley said...

Hi Kirsten, how do you spice your cocoa? That sounds mighty tasty but I've never had it.

Hmm, I'll see if Santa can drop an alpha off for you.

Christie Kelley said...

LOL, Daz! Whatever else Sven is wearing is up to your imagination. But you do know how rowdy it can get in the lair sometimes. (especially on launch parties).

Laurie G said...

CONGRATS! on the book release!!

Christmas is chilly here so I'd like a hot chocolate with lots of marshmallow cream. Asti Spumante in the evenings!

What I want for Christmas...my family together for the holidays.

My mom is 86, my FIL 80 both have some health issues, my daughter and SIL live 1500 miles away , my 3 sons are away at college.

Also, success for your book Scandal of the Season!

Christie Kelley said...

Thanks, Christine. Enjoy that pink champagne!

As far as research, finding Christmas traditions during the Regency was difficult. I did out that greens were brought into the house but it was considered bad luck to bring them in before Christmas Eve. I had some fun with my h/h talking about this Christmas tree at the party they attend. They both agree that it will never catch on as a custom. :)

But honestly, even though the back cover mentions it, I never used mistletoe in the book.

Virginia C said...

Hello, Christie! "Scandal of the Season" sounds delightfully decadent and delicious : )I am actually enjoying "Pumpkin Pie Spice" coffee, which is wonderfully warm and spicy! The "Alpha" male is the dominant leader of the pack. They have qualities and strengths which make them "number one"! Along with all that greatness can come arrogance, a "my way is the only way" attitude, and a sometimes ornery personality. However, their fierce devotion to their loved ones, their loyalty and their innate honor all go together quite nicely to smooth the rough edges. Not too smooth, though...leave some of that masculine allure...a little beard stubble to tickle your skin : ) I love big, gruff, tough men who have even bigger hearts and an inner core of compassion. I also appreciate intelligence and humor, but kindness is the essential quality. Vulnerability is sometimes the key to an alpha male. What he may consider to be his weakness is actually the inner force which makes him an alpha.

What would I like for Christmas? How about a jolly "Alpha Santa" with a sleigh-load of presents just for me! After all, I am on Santa's list. You know...the who's been naughty and who's been nice list ; )

Christie Kelley said...

Hi Minna, well that's another vote for glogg (sorry, can't make the marks over the o.).

Christie Kelley said...

Thanks, Helen. I really enjoyed writing this story. I loved see Somerton brought to his knees because of love.

More eggnog! Now, I want some. I wonder if Starbucks has their eggnog lattes out yet.

Mason Canyon said...

Congratulations on the book launch. Sounds like Somerton could heat up any cold night without the help of a cup of hot chocolate. LOL Wishing you much success.

Yahoo!! Another fabulous launch party in the lair! Congrats on the release of Scandal Of The Season, Christie! I'm so excited about this story :-)

I'm heading back to the cave but I think I'll take a nice hot mug of mint cocoa back with me ;-)

Christie Kelley said...

Helen, I agree about the protective nature of alphas. I think that's one reason why we love them!

Christie Kelley said...

Enid Wilson said...

Best line of the day! LOL, Enid!

Christie Kelley said...

Thanks Maureen! My brain turned quickly to fall and winter this week when the temperature dropped. Yesterday it was only 53 degrees! That's a big change from all the 90+ days we had this summer.

Christie Kelley said...

Thanks, Suz! It's a bit chilly up this way too. Only about 47 degrees this morning when the youngest heading out for school. But I love the cool weather so I'm not complaining!

I'm so glad you appreciate my muse for Somerton. He's perfect for the part. :)

Christie Kelley said...

Thanks, PJ. Somerton always fascinated me, too. The more I wrote him in other stories, the more I really got to know his character.

I would love your recipe for eggnog! My 13 yr old loves eggnog!

Christie Kelley said...

Hi Anna, another glass of champagne to you!

I enjoy reading alpha heroes, though I seem to have trouble writing them *g* and I sure wouldn't want to be married to one!

I laughed when I read that thinking about your hockey players. I don't many of them are the beta type.

Christie Kelley said...

Thanks, Laurie! Getting together with family is one of the best things about the holidays. I truly hope you get your wish!

Christie Kelley said...

Virginia C said...

What he may consider to be his weakness is actually the inner force which makes him an alpha.

I so agree with this, Virginia. And when the heroine sees that weakness, she falls in love with him even more.

Christie Kelley said...

Hi Mason, you're right about Somerton heating up any room!

Thanks for stopping by!

Christie Kelley said...

Hi Beth, enjoy your cocoa. I'll be joining you in the cave at the end of the week.

Gannon Carr said...

Woohoo, partay!! Congrats on your latest release, Christie! It's on my TBB list. :-)

I think those naughty cabana boys can bring me a glass of mulled wine. Yep, that sounds like a perfect holiday libation.

Oh, yes, bring on the alpha males! Love, love, love them! And Jensen Ackles....nice inspiration. I love those Winchester boys on Supernatural, and Dean constantly cracks me up. Total smart a$$, but he's cute!

I haven't really thought about what I want for Christmas yet, but maybe a day at the spa would be good. Massage, facial, mani/pedi, yummy lunch....sounds like a perfect gift!

pjpuppymom said...

I would love your recipe for eggnog! My 13 yr old loves eggnog!

Christie, I'm still working on getting the eggnog recipe. One of my neighbors (a young, single guy) made it for last year's Christmas party and it was the best eggnog I've ever had in my life. (made from scratch and very liberally doused with alcohol so not good for the 13-yr-old.) I'm still trying to get him to share the recipe.

Deb said...

Ooh, Christie, the story sounds so good!

I love, LOVE, love eggnog. So much, I buy lots of cartons of it over Christmas vacation, put them in the freezer and enjoy it all through January---uh, hmm...if it lasts all of January! :)

gamistress66 said...

congrats on the new book release :) I'd love to celebrate, some of that holiday punch please ;)

I admit I love the alpha hero -- I love a guy who knows what he wants and how to get things done, and when an alpha male falls he does it so well and so hard (always fun to see him get flustered by it).

Not sure about what I want for Christmas (birthday's next month so need to figure that out first) but for now I will gladly enjoy a message -- oh Sven ;) -- while getting a peek at your book.

Is it my imagination or is the amount mistletoe hanging increasing? Wonder which bandita is behind that ;D or is it banditas?

Enjoy the party Christie you've earned it :)

Donna MacMeans said...

Woohoo Christie - Happy Launch Day! You must have been a very good girl this year to be blessed with a lovely cover. I hadn't realized that the house party was a Christmas house party. I thought the season in the title referred to ...well...the season - the "open hunting" season for debutantes Love the double entendre. Now I see why dragon-roasted chestnuts are on the menu.

I'm normally an eggnog kind of gal, but I think I'll see if the boys can whip up something sweet with a candy cane in it. Love the little red velvet and white fur loin cloths you found for the cabana boys. It adds that seasonal touch.

Mayor congrats Christie!

Kathy Love said...

As Christie's crit partner, I have read this story a few times already--a terrible hardship, I can tell you. NOT! It's a fantastic story. Probably my favorite of her books--although I love them all.

Somerton is such a sexy, sexy hero. And ladies, I hate to have to tell you this, but he's actually mine.

That's right, Christie has officially told me, he's mine. (No taking it back now, Chris!!)

But I will share him.

As far as my drink, I like mulled wine on a cold evening. Somerton and mulled wine.
Perfect!

Congrats, Chris!

Hi Gannon! I'll have the cabana boys bring you a mulled wine right away.

And Dean Winchester...what can I say but perfect inspiration.

I think the spa day sounds like a fab gift! My boys usually do one for my birthday or Mother's Day. I love them!

Christie Kelley said...

Okay, PJ, if you get the recipe, you must share it! I would definitely make it without the alcohol for the 13 yr old.

Christie Kelley said...

Hi Deb, I remember you saying you freeze eggnog last year. I have to try that so my eggnog addict can continue to enjoy it through January.

Christie Kelley said...

Hi gamistress66, thanks for helping me celebrate! And you know you're right about the mistletoe. I left for an hour to exercise and put the groceries away (I love home delivery!) and just came back to the lair. There's mistletoe everywhere!

Hmm, I'm think Tawny may be behind this. Although, it's awfully early on the West Coast.

Maybe the Joanie's gladiators are romantics at heart.

Christie Kelley said...

Hi Donna!

Love the little red velvet and white fur loin cloths you found for the cabana boys. It adds that seasonal touch.

You know you're the first to mention that. I thought they looked wonderful and quite sexy. I'm not sure they like them. The boys keep giving me nasty looks. Maybe they need a drink.

I'll send one over to you with something sweet and minty with a candy can on the glass.

Christie Kelley said...

Hi Kathy, I'll send a cabana boy over with a nice mulled wine for you on this chilly morning. I think Somerton would love to hang out with you today. Maybe he'll warm you up!

And you're right I did let you claim Somerton. But I made you relinquish your claim to Banning.

Thanks for stopping by!

Christie Kelley said...

Kirsten, that sounds fantastic. I wrote it down so I could try the recipe when it gets just a little cooler.

jo robertson said...

Whooooottt, Christie! Can't wait for SCANDAL OF THE SEASON to hit the shelves. Somerton definitely deserves his own book and I adore Alpha males, especially of the sarcastic kind LOL

Congratulations, Linda, better keep the chook away from the eggnog if it's spiked a wee bit.

Christie Kelley said...

Thanks, Jo! What are you drinking this morning? Something festive I hope!

pjpuppymom said...

I'm normally an eggnog kind of gal, but I think I'll see if the boys can whip up something sweet with a candy cane in it.

Donna, have you tried the Chick-fil-A Peppermint Chocolate Chip shake? They only sell it during the holiday season. I make *lots* of trips to Chick-fil-A over the holidays! *g*

(sorry, can't make the marks over the o.).

Copy and paste. I recall doing that a lot when I was in the States and I had to write to someone in Finnish and couldn't find Äs and Ös. I just searched some Finnish or Swedish page, copied and pasted Äs, äs, Ös and ös on Word and started to write -and to copy and paste!

CrystalGB said...

Hi Christine. Congrats on your new release. Sounds great. I love the cover. I love alpha heroes because they are strong, driven men who don't let anything stand in the way of getting what they want.
I would love to have a Kindle for Christmas. My drink would be hot chocolate with marshmallows. :)

Christie Kelley said...

Hi Crystal! A Kindle sounds like a great present. I have the Kindle app on my phone and it's addicting!

Enjoy your hot chocolate!

Carol L. said...

ooooh, give me some Kaluha and cream. (Did I spell that right)
I love Alpha males. I always think of beautifully built Highlanders when I think Alpha. I love that they are always tormented by some inner demon but they are always loyal to those they care about. Then when they get hit with the L.word they don't give up until she's his. They aren't afraid to let their gentle side show to their loved ones.
For Christmas, lots of scented candles and big gift cards to a book store. :)
Carol L.
Lucky4750@aol.com

Christie Kelley said...

Hi Carol, I have no idea if you spelled Kaluha right or not. But I'll send the cabana boys to you with some anyway.

I love Scottish alpha men. Someday I will write about one!

Laurel Wanrow said...

Christie,
Your latest sounds great - love it when they play a part and have to come clean.

It is cold today! You've inspired me to heat up the spiced grape juice, but no Christmas shopping yet. Send those cabana boys over to help me clear the clutter. I'll gladly take the massage after.

Trish Milburn said...

Congrats on your release, Christie! And with Dean (oh, I mean Jensen) as the model for your hero, how can I resist? :)

Christie Kelley said...

Hi Laurel, thanks for stopping by! I'll send only one cabana boy to help you with the clutter. The rest must keep serving the drinks!

Christie Kelley said...

Trish, I knew you'd like my inspiration. You just can't go wrong with him :)

Sharon Buchbinder, Romance Author said...

Congratulations Christie--I can't wait to read this story. Layers and layers of secrets. Love it.

Alpha heroes know what they want (or think they do!) and go after it. No dithering and waffling for them. Decisiveness and follow through are two characteristics I love in an alpha hero. Oh, and they should be HAWT of course. =]

My favorite drink at the holidays has to be a lovely rose champagne to ring in the new year.

Christie Kelley said...

Hi Sharon!!! Thanks for coming by. I'll add you to the rose champagne list.

Loucinda McGary aka Aunty Cindy said...

WOOO HOOO!!! Nothing like a Launch Party in the Lair!

SUPER CONGRATS, Christie! Like so many others, I've been anxiously awaiting Somerton's story. (Aunty rubs hands together in anticipatory glee) Nothing I like better than a big strong Alpha male brought to his knees by the right woman.;-)

Yes, the cabana boys new holiday outfits are positively LOVELY! And any complaints about the way they fit (from the boys themselves) will result in lumps of coal in stockings! AHEM! So mind your manners, Boys.

As for what Aunty wants for Christmas, I'm with Peanuts' Lucy:
REAL ESTATE!

Now please pass the champers,

AC

Christie Kelley said...

Thanks, AC! I love want you want for Christmas. If you're looking in Maryland, I can help you :)

There have been quite a few people waiting for Somerton. So I guess I did something right with him in the other books. I just hope no one is disappointed with him.

hrdwrkdmom aka Dianna said...

Oh, I love launch parties! My holiday drink of choice the same thing I drink year round if I drink at all. Toasted Almonds. Sometimes I have a little Irish Coffee if it is really cold outside.

I have been waiting on this book for a while! I new it had to be in the making.

I love some alpha heroes but love my betas too! The betas are really just sneaky alphas you know. They still "take care" of the heroine, she just don't know it.

hrdwrkdmom aka Dianna said...

Oh, what I want for Christmas?? I want gift cards so I can fill up my Kindle the same as my bookshelves. LOL

Hellie Sinclair said...

I'm drinking hot cocoa spiked with something caramely and alcoholic.

And I *LOVE* me an alpha. I argue and fuss when I have to deal with one, but in literature, I adore them. They're strong and fun and sexy as hell. I don't want a rude and disrespectful alpha, but one who can get the job done is always well-loved.

RFTC Blog said...

I would be drinking some mulled wine. I just discovered this last year and now I love it. I'm actually not the biggest fan of wine but this lets me enjoy to no end.
As for alpha males, I LOVE them! Can't get enough. I especially love it when the heroine is able to knock them on their butts.
This Christmas I hope to get some book gift certificates or a new ipod.
Congrats on the new release. I can't wait to read it. I've been looking forward to this one for awhile now. I can't wait to find out more about Anthony and Victoria.

Good luck with the gift cards for your Kindle! I hope Santa brings you lots of them.

LOL, mshellion! I usually celebrate Halloween in October too. I just that we'd shake things up a bit in the lair!

Christie Kelley said...

Hi runner10, just this afternoon I had cold apple cider and it was spiced. I didn't realize that I'd bought the spiced but it was delicious. Next time, I'll warm it up.

Thanks on the book cover. The colors are gorgeous in person.

I heard there was a hullabaloo over here. Goodness, it's definitely a rowdy party.

Congrats on the new release, Christie! This heroine sounds absolutely fascinating. And I love those sorts of character you can't help but put in the spotlight.

Alphas are not my favorites, but every now and then I find one I can't resist. In fiction only. In real life I have no patience for them. LOL!

I'll take a hot chocolate, please. With a healthy dab of chocolate liquor, of course.

Terri Osburn said...

Forgot to say what I want for my holiday. Since I'm already getting what AC requested *G* I'd can't think of anything I want. Well, my new "want!" is a Mercedes, but I doubt I'll be getting one this year. LOL!

catslady said...

For breakfast black coffee and kaluha, for lunch spiked eggnog, for dinner cabernet savignon and for later a black russian :)

For my reading pleasure, alpha males (not so much in real life).

I know this book is going to be a winner so for Christmas I want books (of course) and especially this one :)

catslady said...

Oh, I forgot to add my Bailey's either plain or with more black coffee which I'll probably need after my full day of holiday drinks lol.

Christie Kelley said...

Hi Terri!

When isn't there a party going on over here :)

It's funny but I don't think I'd have the patience for an complete alpha male. Mine is alpha enough.

I just happen to have some Godiva chocolate liquor in my kitchen cabinet. I'll send a cabana boy over with the spiked hot chocolate.

Christie Kelley said...

Terri, good luck with the Christmas list :) I'm sure I won't find a Mercedes under my Christmas tree.

Christie Kelley said...

Wow, catslady! You're enjoying the party :)

And thanks for the comments on the book.

Linda, congrats on the bird!

Christie, I'm so looking forward to this book. I love Somerton, and I love Christmas stories. This sounds like a wonderful combination!

As for beverages, I'd go with wassail. Or maybe eggnog.

Barbara E. said...

I'd be drinking some spiced cider, yum. I always enjoy alpha heroes, it's so fun to watch them get straightened out by a strong woman. What I'd like for the holidays? Books of course, I can never have enough of those, and there's always new ones coming out that I just have to have.
Scandal of the Season sounds wonderful and I look forward to reading it.

Christie Kelley said...

Thanks, Nancy! I'll send some wassail your way.

Christie Kelley said...

Hi Barbara, another spiced cider fan! The cabana boys are running some over to you right now.

I love getting gift cards to bookstores for Christmas. There just isn't enough time for all the books I want to read!

Aside from copy & paste, there's the good old Alt key:
For ö, it's Alt-148
For Ö, it's Alt-153
For ä, it's Alt-132
For Ä, it's Alt-142

There are lots of letters and symbols that can be made: ñ, ¿, é, æ, Æ, ½, ¼, ±.

Wow, this party sure got nerdy in a hurry. Quick! Someone give me more eggnog or mulled cider!

Christie Kelley said...

OMG, Sheree, that was too funny! I really think I might need some spiked eggnog now.

Christie Kelley said...

Thanks, Karyn! The eggnog is coming your way!

Louisa Cornell said...

Wow Linda, maybe you can get the GR to help you decorate the cabana boys, I mean the Christmas tree. Paolo I was kidding! Kidding!

Can't wait to read this one, Christie!

I LOVE Alpha Heroes because for the most part they are the ones who fall the hardest when they fall.

I am drinking some lovely apple cider from the Ten Bells in Kelsale in Suffolk. Which is quite a feat as it closed 20 years ago. But that cider is forever etched in my memory as some of the best i have ever tasted.

For Christmas? Moi? How about a nice book contract AND an Alpha Hero under the tree?

Christie Kelley said...

Thanks, Louisa! Here's hoping your Christmas wish comes true!

Pat Cochran said...

I'm with Linda, I'm all for some

can affirm that they are good for
the long haul!!(50 years in 2011!)
BTW, I see that Jensen Ackles is
your model for this hero. I can't
get past seeing him for years as
young Eric Brady on Days of our

For Christmas, I am putting a

I am wanting a small tv to go on the wall in front of my treadmill for Christmas. I am hoping I will use it more if I can watch a show while I walk.

Congratulations on the release of Scandal of the Season. From what I have read it is going to be a fantastic book.
