ROGUISH LAUNCH PARTY

I've been waiting over a year to say this but REDEEMING THE ROGUE is out today. Woohoo!

The reviews have been wonderful:
"Irish rebellion, smuggled guns, and the assassination of American president James Garfield form a lively backdrop for this sweet, sexy, and smartly told Victorian romance." -
Publisher's Weekly

Romantic Times gave Redeeming the Rogue a 4.5 stars Top Pick review and called it "pure joy: funny, sexy and exciting."

Life is good - which means it's time to party!

Now I don't know what it's like in your next of the woods...but
it's darn hot here. So this launch party is being held pool side. I've got a nice cold wildberry mojito myself, an economy sized bottle of coconut scented sunblock, and some willing
and able cabana boys to slather it on. So pull up a lounge chair to join us.

For the one or two people left in the universe that I haven't buttonholed to tell about my story, let me do a quick blurb.

Michael Rafferty is an agent for the Crown, on the trail of a conspirator championing Irish independence through acts of violence. The trail leads to Washington, D.C., where Rafferty must assume the role of a diplomat in order to set a trap for the villain. To complete the pretense, he’ll need to transform his coarse image and find someone to portray his wife.

Lady Arianne Chambers, sister to a Duke and well-versed in high society circles, reluctantly agrees to assist Rafferty’s charade. She’ll teach him the finer points of being a gentleman, but she has no desire for a husband. The honorable and passionate man hidden beneath roguish rough edges finds his way into her heart. Can she risk sharing her secrets and jeopardizing her future...

One thing the blurb doesn't mention is that the Arianne Chambers is a bit of an accidental matchmaker. Whereever she goes people find their one true love. As women outnumbered men during Victorian times, this particular quality made my heroine very popular among mothers with marriageable daughters, but not so much around bachelors.

I guess if my heroine lived in modern times, she'd be the equivalent of eharmony.com - or some other internet driven matching service. So I thought that might be something we could talk about - stories about couples finding their true loves either by introduction, the internet, or like

me - in a bar. (grin). What quality do you think has to be present to make a relationship last?

I've got a couple of copies of Redeeming the Rogue to give away as prizes - just leave a comment and I'll let my new kitten pick two. I also have a contest running at my website www.DonnaMacMeans.com. I'm giving away a Kindle to the person who posts a review of Redeeming the Rogue in the most places. See my website for details.

So let's talk about the heat, let's talk about the love, and hopefully, let's talk about how they come together.

Aloha! All our our parties here in Paradise are poolside ...
... so we'll make a few extra Mai Tais to celebrate REDEEMING THE ROGUE.

Oh, here's Alex (O'Louglin) with one for Donna ... and Scott (Caan) is carrying around the platter of Puu-Puu's (appetizers). For dessert, Daniel (Dae Kim) has shave ice for all!

Congratulations on your release of REDEEMING THE ROGUE. The reviews you posted are great. So, well done.

Yayayayayayay! It's another release party in the lair. I loves me some release party! Let's get this shindig started!

Donna, huge congratulations on the release of REDEEMING THE ROGUE and wow, talk about some fabulous reviews hitting the blocks. Well done!

Now, where was that cabana boy! I ordered a margarita pronto but he's decided he wants to practice his brogue instead of giving me my drink.

Oy, Paolo O'Leary-Caruso! Get me that drink!

Congratulations on the new release!

I think everyone has a different take on what qualities they'd like in a prospective mate. I liked my husband's sense of humor, his intelligence and his humility and compassion. We both like to talk. We'll never run out of things to talk about. I'm not sure if that's good or bad, but it works for us!

A Victorian romance is a nice change up! Heading over to Amazon!

Cheers!

I would like to add that the first to come to the party are a few from the Pacific Rim ....

... not sure if its the time zone, champange, or cabana boys!

Well done Jane enjoy the party and the GR

Whoo Hoo Donna I am dying to read this one I soo love your stories I ordered it from The Book Depositry and am eagerly awaiting the postman so as I can dive into it.

I would love some champagne and stawberries and we had a lovely day here in Oz today quite warm (although it is cooling down now LOL)

As for a quality that has to be present to make a relationship last for me understanding one another and their needs and wants and you have to have a good sense of humour I think just to cope LOL after 34 years of marriage I think we must have that quality because we can still laugh cry and yell and always be ready to give in I was given some advice from a cousin on my wedding day "never let the sun go down on an argument" and I have held fast to that and it works LOL.

Again congrats Donna

Have Fun

Congrats on the release Donna, I have been waiting patiently! Met my BF at a New Years party at the Moose, it was his sharp wit that got my attention and the bright blue eyes were icing on the cake.

I have to work today but I will be back this evening. Save a drink and some canapes for me.

Thanks Jane - I was so thrilled yesterday. Between sending in the complete of Casanova Code to my agent and the arrival of my author copies - I managed to break my toe. LOL - just another reason for stretching out by the pool with alcohol. Pull up a lounge!

Donna MacMeans said...

Hi Lindsey -

Isn't the cover grand! My previous covers were the heroines by themselves and lovely as well...but there's something magic when you add a handsome hunk to the mix. LOL

Donna MacMeans said...

Aloha Kim - Yeah, rub it in, rub it in (grin). Hmmm...a Mai Tai sounds wonderful. Yes - let's give those 5 - O guys some down time (or up time if you know what I mean). LOL

Donna MacMeans said...

Hi Marybelle - Thanks! Here's the thing - I turned this book into the publisher last July and immediately dug into some new projects. So it's been over a year to wonder if the book is any good, and convince myself that it probably isn't - I'm good at that. The wonderful reviews were then a fabulous surprise and totally unexpected.

So yeah - let's eat those chocolate covered strawberries before the chocolate melts!

Hellie Sinclair said...

I think PERSISTENCE is key. I met my true love, oh, 18 years ago, and did not care for him. 15 years of dogged persistence finally won me over to him.

PERSISTENCE is pretty much the key to any marriage, right? I mean, love, respect, the occasional common hobby--but really, just outlasting the lows and believing the high will return if you make it, I'd say that's key.

Or maybe the key is LOW EXPECTATIONS? *LOL* Maybe it's both. Oh, and the love, respect, blah, blah...

Hellie Sinclair said...

P.S. I'm so glad this book is FINALLY out. Must go harass my bookstore!

Donna MacMeans said...

Hey Anna - Yes, the reviewers have been kind. Woohoo!

Oh Paolo - grab me a pina coloda while you're up. All that coconut sunblock has me thirsty.

Donna MacMeans said...

Hi Pink! Pull up a lounge chair. I think you've listed the key qualities for a successful marriage and as those are the qualities you share with your husband...many wonderful years are ahead of you.

I tried to make sure that my hero and heroine recognize those same traits in each other - especially the sense of humor!

Toast, toast - to all the things in life that make us laugh and smile!

Kat Sheridan said...

Woo hoo and W00t!! Happy release day! And congrats on turning in the next one! Can't wait to get my copy of this one. It sounds like so much fun! And did you really break your toe? OMG! I'm sitting by an actual pool, although it's a bit early for my favorite iced limoncello. And when I met hubs, it was the wrinkles around his eyes that caught my eye. I figured he either spent a lot of time in the sun or laughed a lot. Turned out it was both.

Donna MacMeans said...

Kim - Or the roosters! Haha!

Donna MacMeans said...

Hi Helen! I'm so there with your appreciation of a sense of humor. I can't imagine a marriage without it....or writing a book without it! LOL

I hope I can keep you smiling with RTR, Helen! I had a great time working the humor in.

Joan said...

Woohoo....congratulations Donna!

LOVE the cover and I know the story rocks!

I'll have a Diet Coke slushie....temp today in KY is slated for 99 and Lord knows what the index will be...

I had so much fun writing this book - I think it shows. hope you enjoy the reading as well.

Donna MacMeans said...

Daz - Thanks! This one was a lot of fun - especially the relationship between the hero and his best friend, Phineas - the stage magician/master of disguise. I'm hoping one day here to write Phineas's book as well

Congrats on your new release Donna! It sound awesome, and its party time. I am bring the Margaritas and the Cabana boys so lets get started.

Donna MacMeans said...

Hey Ms. Hellion! So glad you could join us. Yes, I hear you on the FINALLY - LOL. The problem is that I'm a CPA and a spring release is difficult for me to promote - so my editor held the book back till the summer/fall.

LOL on the persistence. Sounds like it's the DH that was persistent - he saw what he wanted and he hung in there till he won you over. Good for him. I think you'll recognize the thread of persistence in RTR as well. My hero knows what he wants and he's not giving up till he gets it!

Tanja said...

Party on, girl! Youve certainly earned it.
I finished re-reading your previous 3 novels last week, prepping for this grand occasion. Congrats! I am so looking forward to reading it by the pool--with a tall one--tall, dark and handsome.

Congrats on the new release, Donna!

Lordy, it is hot, isn't it? We've had so many days in the upper 90s with above-100 heat indexes. I'm getting up earlier than normal so I can do my yard work early before the sun starts scorching everything.

Donna MacMeans said...

Kat -

I love the reason for choosing your dh. Those eye crinkles are important to me as well (grin).

Yeah - I either broke it or sprained it pretty bad. Should have been wearing shoes. It's pretty much scarlet and dark blue at the moment. I think if you squint your eyes, it might pass for scarlet and gray - a staple in Columbus Ohio now that football season is upon us.

Terri Osburn said...

Congratulations on the new book release. I'm excited to find a historical that crosses the pond. Yay for getting out of London. LOL!

Now I'm so curious what her secret is. Hmmm...guess I'll have to read the book and find out. :)

My coworker across the hall found his wife through eHarmony. I've come to the conclusion my poor soulmate was hit by a bus before we were ever able to meet. Alas, maybe in the next life.

Donna MacMeans said...

Joan - I know you'll love this book. The hero is Irish! I bet you'll fall in love with him yourself.

And I think of Grayson the Monkey cat often as my kitten performs acrobatic feats right in front of my feet. You'd think I could blame this toe thing on trying not to step on her...but that was not the problem at the time.

Donna MacMeans said...

Jo - Thanks so much for the download. Does the download include the acknowledgements? You know you're there!

Donna MacMeans said...

Virginia - Hmmm...margaritas....Frozen I hope. We're slated for 92 degrees here today. We've got cabana boys a plenty - just take your pick!

Joan said...

Oh, aye I'll be loving me some Irish heroes.

Sorry about the toe....little things but big ouchies.

Awww..your little kitty is being acrobatic too? Grayson was WILD this am...jumping and wrestling (himself) stalking tails (his own) jumping up into every place he could find to shred paper and that was all in the first hour after I got up...whew. I have 3 little girls coming to visit Friday...we'll see who ends up with a twitch!

gamistress66 said...

Happy Release Day! :D I thought the weather was suppose to cool off after the big storms that came through yesterday, but your book hitting the shelves must be sending the temps up again ;) Why thank you dear, I'd love a cool drink :D

catslady said...

Here kitty, kitty...lol.

Congratulations - it sounds like a wonderful read!

I too think Margaritas would be perfect in such hot weather and I think I see one of those cabana boys heading my way.

I think you need committment for a long lasting marriage. To be willing to compromise and be honest and have a sense of humor.

Donna MacMeans said...

Tanja -
Bless your heart! Reading Seduction of a Duke is probably a great way to prep for Redeeming the Rogue. As William is back causing problems. Arianne isn't mentioned much in the earlier books - until you hit the epilogue of Seduction of the Duke and you learn that she was partly responsible for the arranged marriage. Actually, that's where the idea of the accidental matchmaker came into being.

Sounds like you read The Trouble with Moonlight as well (grin). One of my favorites - but not connected to the others.

Hope you love RTR.

Donna MacMeans said...

Inara -

LOL - a girl couldn't ask for more. Thanks for the read, Inara. Hope you enjoy RTR - and let me know, OK? I miss hearing your voice in your posts.

Rose Maybud said...

Donna MacMeans said...

Thanks Trish -

And when you need to cool off - pull up a lounge chair and be served a cool drink.

I hear you on the heat. It's been wretched up here as well - not as bad as you, Cassondra and Joanie - but not a lot of variation. I'm really looking forward to doing water aerobics tonight just to jump in the water.

Deb said...

Hurray, hurray, Donna!! Can't wait to read RTR!

With my a/c unable to decide if it wants to work or not, Sven needs to bring some extra large palm fronds for fanning moi. What, do you think I'd make him cover up all that Scandi male beauty? ;) However, I'm sure he will look superb in his swim trunks while serving up bubbly and cooling me down at the same time.

Congrats, Donna!

Beth Andrews said...

Whoo Hoo! It's launch day in the lair! Fabulous party, Donna. Love the Cabana boys' matching swimsuits ;-)

I, too, met my husband in a bar *g*

For me, I think there are two qualities that are needed to make a relationship last: tolerance and a sense of humor. They seem to go hand-in-hand for us :-)

Can't wait to read REDEEMING THE ROGUE!

Donna MacMeans said...

Terri -

Thanks - yes the market is pretty tough on historicals that come to America. I do spend the first third of the book in London so maybe that's enough to land the audience before crossing to America. I'd really love to see some American set historicals get some love in the market, you know?

I know personally of several eharmony success stories (I never trust the commercials). My favorite is my husband's cousin whose "match" per eharmony wasn't...but he knew someone who he thought would be perfect for the cousin - and he was right! She was in her fifties at the time and had given up on ever finding her soul mate - so you never know.

Becke Davis said...

Woot! Happy Release Day, Donna!

Donna MacMeans said...

Joanie -

LOL on the paper shredding. I edit by putting tons of post-it notes on a paper copy of the full manuscript - different colors denote different things in terms of reviewing. I came down one morning to find the kitten happily shredding the post-it away. So I did what any writer would do - I wrote the kitten into the manuscript. Turns out she plays an important part in Casanova code - including attacking some documents.

Donna MacMeans said...

Gamistress -

LOL - I love your reasoning for the high temps! My brother, the General, emailed to tell me he'd picked up a copy at his local bookstore and was surprised at the sexy cover. LOL. Guess it's a good thing that they slide the books into those opaque plastic bags (grin).

Yes - have a cool one, my dear. Have you tried these wildberry mojitos? They're wonderful. You can down two or three before the alcohol hits. WHen that happens to me - I start talking incessantly - can you tell?

It does feel like we've been waiting a LOOONG TIME to celebrate the release of Redeeming The Rogue, Donna. But I know the wait will be WORTH IT! I adore the humor in your books and yes, that's one thing I think is a MUST in a potential mate -- SENSE OF HUMOR!

CABANA BOYS! Fire up the industrial sized blenders! I tried a strawberry-mango margarita at Appleby's the other night and I must have MORE! SLURP!!!

And Lars, a soothing poultice for Donna's injured toe! Writing is a dangerous occupation, after all. ;-)

Happy New Book Release Day, Donna. I'm eager to read Redeeming the Rogue.

I'll have a tall glass of ice tea, heavy on the ice and with lemon. It'a a cool 92 here today, back to 99 tomorrow.

I think respect and a sense of humor are essential in a relationship. A good memory for the best moments helps too. It's easier to forgive daily irritations when you remember the times that melted your heart.

Donna MacMeans said...

Catslady -

Sense of humor - ding, ding, ding, Everyone drink up.

I agree 100%. You can't toss in the towel at the first disagreement (though that can be incredibly tempting. I remember my MIL asked me what I wanted for my first year anniversary and I answered a divorce. She was a bit shocked but the dh got the message. Compromise ensued - LOL)

You'll be pleased to note that the word "Negotiation" has a special place in this book - grin.

Donna MacMeans said...

Rose -

Bless you! I live in fear that B&N will forget to unpack the boxes in the back and my poor baby won't be out on the shelves.

Hehehe - while you're there...don't forget to put SOMETHING IN THE COFFEE.

Donna MacMeans said...

LOL Deb - so you want him to heat you up and cool you down. Love the palm fronds. Hugs on the a/c! Ours is working its little heart out. The downstairs is cool, but the bedrooms? Not so much.

Which means it's a great time to read Rogue! A good portion of the story takes place in Washington DC in the summer with no a/c. You'll be living in my fictional world (grin).

Landra said...

Party!!!! I need a daquiri and ringside seat at the pool. It's hot outside and we should cool off before I ratch up the heat another level with your book Donna.

I'm uber excited about 'Redeeming the Rogue'. Unfortunately I don't have the moolah to get it today or otherwise, I wouldn't be here right now. I would be reading. Congrats on the launch!

Jane- keep that chook away from Lindsey's chocolate covered strawberries. I would steer him clear of the Mai Tais too!

Beth -

Sense of humor - ding, ding, ding. - raise a glass!

You know - I'd be highly suspect of a relationship if there wasn't shared humor between the parties. Or maybe that's just romance readers that place a high premium on fun and laughter. IF so -- I'm so glad I''m in this sector. Gotta have the laughter.

Donna MacMeans said...

Becke!

Where the heck have you been? Thanks for the congrats - but I've been missing your avatar! Hope you're having a great summer!

I'll have what she's having - one of those mango strawberry thingees.

Donna MacMeans said...

Janga -

Sense of humor - ding, ding, ding IT's the number one quality, that's for sure.

Respect is very important. Love the comment about keeping a good memory of the good moments, but I'm telling these days having any memory is good - LOL. Hmm...why did I come in this room?

I have a theory about iced tea - the better the establishment, the bigger the slice. They only have big ones here!

Donna MacMeans said...

Landra - Thanks! I'm uber thrilled to see it actually hit the shelves as well. Cabana boy - another daiquri for Landra - the poor thing looks parched!

Donna MacMeans said...

Caroline -

Thanks. Berkley did a great job on the cover, didn't they? I especially like that they used a green dress as that has special significance in the book.

Nancy said...

Jane, congrats on the rooster!

Donna, I'm delighted this book is available at last, and I can't wait to read it.

As for what keeps a couple together, I think it's mostly summed up by "give and take," being willing to put the other person first sometimes and also to accept when the other person wants to do that for you. And it has to be balanced, not one-sided. And both parties have to be committed to making this work.

Donna MacMeans said...

Nancy - Well - you're partly responsible for the boom in this book (grin). Pull up a chair and grab a drink.

I think you're right on the give and take, and putting the other person first even if it's not exactly what you want to do at that moment. In a balanced relationship, they will reciprocate as well. Hopefully both are "needy" at the same time.

Lolarific said...

Congrats on your release! It's darn hot here too, I think the pool party should last a few days!

Louisa Cornell said...

Jane got the GR! That means you are in charge of him for the entire launch party! Good luck!

WOOOOOOT!!! Another Donna MC Hero in the House!! NO wonder it's so HOT in here!

Can't wait to read this one.

I'll have one of those shaved ices or a shaved cabana boy, either way!

I think an important aspect of a relationship is sincerely liking the other person. Passion is easy. Love can be overwhelming, but when you truly like your significant other as a person it adds a whole new dimension to the relationship.

And acceptance is another good component as well. If there is even one thing about the other person you cannot abide and intend to change, move on.

Gannon Carr said...

CONGRATULATIONS DONNA!!!!

Sorry I'm so late to the party. Blogger kicked me off the island multiple times yesterday. Technology has not been my friend.

So stupidly I had not saved the chapter and verse comment I made. Please just know that I am so thrilled REDEEMING THE ROGUE is getting so much buzz and praise. We've waited far too long for another treat from Donna MacMeans!

Cathy P said...

Happy Release Day, Donna. Looking forward to reading Redeeming the Rogue.

I would like to bring several cabana boys to your party and maybe some umbrellas to block the sun.

Lasting love is a lot of work. You have to be willing to give of yourself, compromise a lot, be a good friend and confidante, and make your other half feel special. I met my DH of 38 years at a wedding rehearsal where I was maid-of-honor and he was the best man. We immediately felt sparks upon seeing each other and everyone talked about our staring at each other for weeks afterward. We married a little over a year later and are living our own HEA.

Cathy P said...

PS: You also need to be honest, loyal, and hopefully have a sense of humor for a lasting relationship.

Donna MacMeans said...

Donna MacMeans said...

Hi Gannon -

Sense of humor - ding, ding, ding - everyone drink up!

We've got those cabana boys hot-footin' with the cold drinks - I think they sent Sven out for more ice.

I agree 100%. You have to be able to laugh at life's little setbacks and know that no matter what happens, you'll face it together.

Donna MacMeans said...

Thank you Christina -

Yeah, I sort of felt kicked off the island for a while there - but never out of the lair (grin).

Donna MacMeans said...

Christina - Sorry about blogger and technology. I've discovered that my kitten is in league with the devil as far as technology is concerned, and determined not to let me use the keyboard (grin).

Donna MacMeans said...

Cathy P says Sense of Humor! Ding, ding, ding! Another round of drinks!

That is a great story. How amazing that you hadn't met the best man earlier, or he - you. Obviously you had that love at first sight thing going. I'm a believer in that. I feel in love with my dh (we'll be celebrating our 38th this November) the moment he first danced with me - and we're talking rock and roll!

Honesty and loyality is essential - and sense of humor (ding, ding, ding) a saving grace.

LOL - I think I've had to toss her off the desk about three times in as many minutes. Just wait till you read the next book. You'll recognize my Shadow even the name was changed to protect the demon.

Hi Kate -

Thunder has started to rumble here so we'll have to vacate the pool shortly. Paolo has whipped up enough drinks to take for a few more hours!

What excellent career planning to marry a bartender! LOL. You know - I think bartending might be one of those skills every man should know, like how to iron a shirt, how to sew a button, how to whip up a killer margarita for when the wife has had one of THOSE days!

So glad you liked the first chapter. That excerpt book was fun especially as Susan did all the work! LOL. Glad a copy made its way to you.

Oh Anna - You sweetie.

My daughter is showing me how to use twitter and I saw that you sent out several messages about the launch. Thank you so much! I'm learning the social networking at a fast crawl (grin).

Yes, the Kindle version contains everything!

Thanks so much for the mention. I'm sure I did very little. This story is a wonderful concept and I know I'm going to love it.

Jo - You did more than you realize. I wish time constraints hadn't forced me to continue forward without your feedback, but believe me - you were invaluable.

Donna, I'm still making my way through Twitter - it's great for quick and dirty messages, I find.

Hi Ladies,

Coming a little late to the party, but I'm still here to congratulate Donna on the release of Redeeming the Rogue. Don't have my copy yet, but hope to soon. Hmmm, maybe I'll get lucky and win a copy here! LOL
