If Books Could Kill - Launch Party!!!!

By Kate

Welcome to the party!! I am so pleased and proud to celebrate the release of If Books Could Kill with my Banditas!!! There’s nowhere else I’d rather be today.

If Books Could Kill is the second book of my Bibliophile Mysteries series. Heroine Brooklyn Wainwright has come to Scotland for the Edinburgh Book Fair. When a friend asks her to authenticate a book that just may contain undiscovered poems of Robert Burns, Brooklyn’s heart races…almost as fast as it does after a kiss from hunky secret agent Derek Stone. When that friend shows up dead, Brooklyn must work with Derek to discover the murderer before Brooklyn becomes the next victim.

In honor of the setting of If Books Could Kill, I’ve rented the Great Hall of the Edinburgh Castle for the day. Please come right in!

See those streamers wayyyyyy up there, hanging from the ancient wooden beams? Those are for us. Our color scheme is blue and gold, the predominant colors on my book cover (doesn’t it look pretty?).

(If you want to really see the castle, check out this awesome 3D virtual tour: http://www.edinburghcastle.gov.uk/index/tour.htm)

The dress code is tartan, of course. So put on your plaid party dresses and let’s get it on!

Okay, first things first. The bar is open! Step right up and request your favorite libation. Have you noticed that the bartenders look a lot like Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman? That’s because—it’s really them! Put your tongues back in your mouths, ladies! Danny and Hugh were both so excited that you had nominated them to play Derek Stone last week that they fell all over themselves to serve us at this party. And oh yes, they are indeed wearing kilts. We have a nice single malt Scotch and some lovely IPA selections, but I’m going to have to stick with pina coladas. Not very Scottish, but verrrra delicious!

Now I need some help with the music. As much as I love a good Scottish folk tune, the bagpipes just don’t scream “par-tay” to me, so we’ve got a DJ for the duration. He’s taking requests. I’m kicking off the party with Celebration by Kool & The Gang because that always gets me in the partying mood. (For singing along: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvX_5ym_ajI)

Let’s get this party started!!! Shout out those song requests! Place your drink orders with Danny and Hugh. Did you bring a date with you? Is he wearing a kilt? And what are you wearing? It’s fabulous!

Oh, and I’m having a gift exchange! I brought an Aston Martin, which is Derek’s favorite car when he’s not driving the Bentley. Isn’t it pretty? What special goodies did you bring to exchange? This is going to be fun! Oh, and I’m giving away a signed copy of If Books Could Kill to one random commenter today.

Let’s party!!!!!!

Kate, huge, HUGE congratulations on the release of your second book. And congratulations yet again on the huge success of your first book! By the way, I adore those covers and I don't think you could have found a better setting for a party, och aye the noo! I must say I rather like bagpipes so clearly I will have to chase a Scotsman up to the battlements and see if he can give me a little jig! Oh, my!

Anna Campbell said...

I brought the ghost of Robert Burns himself - in full working order, nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more, me lassies! He was a wild boy, was our Robbie Burns, when he was alive and I don't think any of the spirit has left him since he's become an, uh, spirit! By the way, Kate, you might want to ask him about those poems. Nothing like going to the horse's mouth! Now, just off to find Robbie a wee dram. What's that, Robbie? Not a WEE dram? A BIG dram! Lawks a mercy! Where's a nice sedate poet like Wordsworth when you want him?

limecello said...

Yay, Kate! Congratulations on your new book! I've been waiting for it forEVER!
Heh - if I comment a lot randomly today, does that increase my chance of winning? ;)
Love the launch party :D Danny and Hugh eh? Very nice. My current drink of choice is a pineapple fizz, but I'm always happy to experiment.

Hmmmm special goodies to exchange? Heh. Following Anna's example - I'd bring Neal Caffrey - from White Collar. He'd be great to have at a party, entertaining... and whoever ended up with him would get some very creative money making tips- and who wouldn't want that, especially in these times?

Otherwise what tangible gift to exchange? Heh. The Batmobile. O_o [Yeah I should probably go to sleep now...]

Enjoy the GR, Anna!

WooHoo party!
Hi Kate, A BIG CONGRATULATION on you new release! I can't wait to get my hands on it.

I am going to be the in line right behind Anna for the drinks. I can see me spending a lot of time getting drinks today, because of who is tending the bar! Jeffery Dean Morgan is coming as my date and yes he will be in a kilt! Jeffery promised he would wear one. I can't wait to go through the castle!

Nancy said...

Whoo-hoo, Kate! Congratulations on your new book. I can't wait to get mine.

What a great setting for your party. We went to Edinburgh when the boy was small and "did" the whole top of the mount in ten minutes. When you peek into each room only long enough to see whether it contains swords and, if so, note the fact and nod, it doesn't take very long. Lucky for us, we'd been before, but our memories aren't very fresh.

I love bagpipes. So does the dh despite not having so much as a drop of Scots heritage so far as we know. The boy, however, shudders at the skirl of the pipes. His MacQueen and MacGill ancestors are probably doing the graveyard spin.

Nancy said...

Anna, congrats on the rooster. See if you can get him to do that Scots sword dance.

No, Demetrius and Marcus, not ROMAN swords. *sigh*

Tawny said...

WHOHOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

It's Par-Tay time!!! I'm so excited about this release, Kate! Congratulations and happy squeals of joy :-)

Ooooh, a gift exchange? I'll just add a bracelet of diamond hearts (in celebration of all the lurve) here on the table. Then my date, Johnny (of course) and I will head on over to the bar!

I'll be back later ;-)

Tawny said...

Wow!! Check out Anna and the Rooster. Talk about a wild chicken dance *g*

Anna Campbell said...

I've discovered that Rooster knows just what to do with feathers! Blush! Get me a fluffy duck. Sorry, GR, it's only a mild flirtation but the duck's been making eyes at me!

Nancy said...

Limecello, we love White Collar. As for gifts--ooh, the Batmobile! Cool!

Did you see Action Comics #1 on the wall of the bad guy broker's vault? Very neat!

Tawny said...

Anna!!! I'm shocked.

Actually, I'm amused *g*

Anna Campbell said...

Snort, Tawny Depp, it would take more than a few avian jokes to shock you, Bandita! The rooster was so jealous of the fluffy duck, he's threatened to dance the Dying Swan. I really think we NEED the gladiator swords to perk the poor little chook up a bit! Or else he'll fade away to a feather duster!

mariska said...

Wow, look at ANNA and the rooster : )

Kate, This book is absolutely gonna KILL ME ! LOL.

It's so fun joining the party..well it's totally hot down here.

what i should bring to exchange ? let me think..I have lots of some Gorgeous Hotwheels here..(i'm still playing with my Kiral before we have a nap ^_*)

Congrats KATE !!

Wooot!! Go Kate!! And woot! Go, Anna and the GR! ;)

Kate, huge congrats on book 2! I'll bet the release thrill hasn't worn off ;) Loving the party--thanks for celebrating with us!

Keira Soleore said...

This party is off to a grand rollicking start with the dubious, er, delightful, pleasure of watching Fo waltzing with the GR (and dancing the jig?? with a Scotsman of/in her dreams).

Fo, you chasing the buns of Robert Burns. Hur!

CONGRATULATIONS, Kate!! You had such a fab debut, and according to all early reviews, your second is just as marvelous! Am waiting to get to the store to pick up my copy.

Jane said...

Happy Release Day, Kate. Is it true that they don't wear anything under their kilts? I brought my hunky tennis instructor with me and a Rolex for the gift exchange. When will you break out the karaoke machine?

Congrats on the GR, Anna.

Christine Wells said...

Hellooo Kate my wee lassie!! I'm chanelling my Scottish forebears now--can't you tell? I must say this is a spectacular place for a party and hearty congrats on your new release. I'm sure it will be another winner and I can't wait to see what Brooklyn gets up to!

Hmm, I think I'll have a wee dram of Drambuie (or three) and I have a couple of songs -- first must be the old favourite party girl song, Dancing Queen, second is Pink's Get this Party Started and of course an Oz contribution for the slow dance (I bags Daniel!!) Under the Milky Way by the Church.

Gift to exchange...well, I've brought Sven of the magical hands but I'm sure his services will be complimentary.

Keira Soleore said...

Christine wrote, "(I bags Daniel!!)"

You delighted me no end with that phrase. I've never heard/seen it outside of Enid Blyton books.

Helen said...

Congrats Anna have fun with him

PARTY TIME

Yay huge congrats Kate I am soo looking forward to reading this one. Love the place you have chosen for the party and way to go with Hugh and Daniel I gotta say I too love the bagpipes but how about Twisting The Night Away with Rod Stewart who I have brought along to the party tonight dressed in his kilt I am sure after he has sung a few songs he will start a soccer game for us all LOL.
I would love a Scotch whiskey my drink of choice and lets start dancing.
As for a gift I have a beautiful scottish thistle broach that is holding my plaid scarf in place.

Congrats Kate

Have Fun
Helen

hrdwrkdmom aka Dianna said...

Well this is wonderful, but I have to work and won't get to party until tonight. :-( Ya'll keep some drinks cold for me and Anna could you maybe a keep a couple of gentlemen hot for me til I get back?

Emmanuelle said...

Congrats on your release !!
Great party too ;-)
I'm bringing Pierre Hermé with me. Because I'm french and Pastisserie (or pastry) is one of the good things we have here in France. Ever heard of those "food-induced orgasms" ??? Well PH's maccarons can certianly accomplish that !
And what is a great party without great food after all ?
Congrats again !!

Deb Marlowe said...

Congrats Kate! How nice to see that Brooklyn is back! And in Edinburgh!

Excuse me, I'm going to need someone to drag me away from the bar if Hugh and Daniel are tending. Yes, I really DO need another Sex on the Beach, Daniel!

For exchange, I'm offering up a week at a secluded NC beach house--because that is what I'm craving right about now!

Gannon Carr said...

Oh, I love a party in the Lair! Congrats on the release of your second book, Kate. Woohoo! I love the setting--I've actually been to the Edinburgh Book Fair. We just happened to be there at the right time for that, but we were in Edinburgh for the Military Tattoo. Amazing! Love the pipes. :)

How thoughtful of you to have Hugh and Daniel to serve us. All that manliness!! Mmmm Mmmm.

I'll have a pint before I have my date, the gorgeous Clive Owen, take me for a spin on the dance floor. He looks particularly sexy in a kilt, but then he'd look good in anything....or nothing. *g*

For the gift exchange, I'm bringing some sexy men who will agree to be someone's personal masseuse for a year.

Susan Sey said...

Good morning, Kate, and congrats Anna on the GR! Congrats to you, too, Kate on the huge release! I'm so very excited for this book--Homocide in Hardcover was one of my favorite books last year & I've been waiting a while for your follow up! Hurray!

Loooooove the bartenders, by the way. Yummers.

Now then, I'm in the mood for an icy cold beer--a nut brown ale, I think--and some chips. I've brought some SNOW to share, as we have so much of it here in the upper midwest. Shall we sled later? Perfect, now I'll just hunker down here in front of this ENORMOUS fireplace with my chips & beer, and...what's this? My very own copy of If Books Could Kill? Why thank you! I'll be with you in, oh, five hours or so. Enjoy the party!

Gannon Carr said...

Anna, make sure the GH doesn't have too many drams!

Kate Carlisle said...

Miss Anna, Congratulations! I can see you on the battlements, dancing a jig with R.B. and G.R. What a merry trio you are! Later in the party, let's ask Robbie to write an original poem for the Banditas.

Limecello, Commenting often certainly can't hurt your chances, so I hope you will! :) A pineapple fizz sounds deeelicious! I love the gifts you've brought. The batmobile looks right at home here in the castle.

Virginia, Good thing you told Jeffrey Lee Morgan to wear a kilt. Otherwise, I'd have to ask him to leave. Kilts are mandatory for our menfolk at this party!

Back in a moment!

Kate Carlisle said...

Nancy, Now's your chance to spend hours at the castle. Explore at your leisure.

Ooooooh, Tawny, what a beautiful bracelet you've brought! It sparkles so prettily against the castle walls.

SPEECH! SPEECH! SPEECH! SPEECH!

Okay, okay. You talked me into it. Let me just climb atop this banquet table so everyone can see and hear me... (some laughter as I fail to keep my modesty intact in this party dress)...

I wanted to take a moment to thank you all sincerely for being so excited about the release of If Books Could Kill. You mean so much to me. Thank you!!!

Oh, and if you're on Facebook, I hope you'll become my fan. Facebook.com/KateCarlisleBooks

(Wild, over-the-top applause as Hugh and Danny each take one arm and lift me from the table...)

PJ said...

Hi Kate! Congratulations on the release of If Books Could Kill! I'm so excited for you!

I'm running short on time this morning but I'll be back later to par-tay!

Anna, congrats on nabbing the dancing rooster! :)

Kate Carlisle said...

Mariska, I love that you brought Hot Wheels to the party! The only trouble is, boys never grow up. Now Hugh, Danny, Johnny, Neal and Jeffrey are all playing race games on the tabletop. Only the ghost of Robert Burns is immune. No, wait! He caught the fever! He's running around the room making vroom-vroom noises.

Pat, Head over to the Royal Palace to take a nap on the bed where Mary Queen of Scots gave birth to James VI in 1566. You can have sweet dreams of history.

flchen1, No, the thrill has certainly not worn off. I can't wait to see what the world thinks of Brooklyn's second adventure.

Suzanne Welsh said...

Hello Lady Kate!!! So glad we're celebrating this book's release!! Will be buying mine tomorrow after lunch with my Texas foxes. :)

So, I've arrived on the arm of the most stunning man in a kilt in a Lonnnnnnnnnnng time...Gerard Butler.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQTXEjqnQAo
AND he knows how to weild his sword!!

What will I be trading? How about a vintage copy of SAVING GRACE? One of the best ever Highlander books!

Suzanne Welsh said...

By the way, I dinna ken where our wee Robbie has hide away our darlin' Anna, but I'm thinkin the lassie will be a wee bit snokered when she returns!

Kate Carlisle said...

Keira, Thank you! I hope you love If Books Could Kill!

Jane, Far be it for me to reveal the answer to that age-old mystery. Try to encourage the men to do a table dance so you can find out for yourself.

We can do karaoke! What song do you want to sing?

Christine, Thanks!!! The DJ is playing the songs you requested:

Dancing Queen

Get This Party Started

And now, ladies, grab your escorts as we slow things down...

Under the Milky Way

May I just say... this is the best party EVAH!

Suzanne Welsh said...

As for my request of the DJ?

Why some soulful Aretha!

R-E-S-P-E-C-T

And

Chain of Fools, please....coz mama knows how to move her booty!

Kate Carlisle said...

Helen, OMG, yes! Party music! Rod's voice sounds great in here. As you might imagine, Edinburgh Castle has incredible acoustics!

Twistin' the Night Away

Dianna, Keep the drinks cold and the men hot. Check!

Emmanuelle, yes, yes, YES!!! Pastries are a must at this party. Thanks so much for coming and for bringing Monsieur Pierre!

Deb, Oooh, great gift for the exchange! I could use a week in North Carolina. I might need to bring Sven with me, though. Would that be okay, Christine? A daily massage and a week of no phone or email... Sigh!

MsHellion said...

Well, if Anna's bringing ghosts, I want to bring Lord Byron. I am also bringing a passel of blue ribbons to bestow to the kilt wearers.

http://www.thebards.net/music/lyrics/The_Scotsman.shtml

Congrats on your new book release, Kate!!!

Kate Carlisle said...

Gannon, Isn't Edinburgh fabulous? Just love it! When I started the Bibliophile Mysteries series, I knew I had to set a book there. Now if I could just talk my publisher into sending me there on book tour!

Clive, may I say, you're looking fine this evening?

Susan, Thanks for coming! Let's build a snow fort within the fortress that is the castle! And then we can build a slide made entirely out of snow, and slide from the battlements down to the ground. Our poor gentlemen friends might want to change out of their kilts for this portion of the party.

PJ, Thanks for the drive-by! Hope to see you later! :)

Thuzhamme... Wait, sorry, I had to put my tongue back in my mouth... Suzanne... Gerard Butler in a leather kilt .... May I just say, WOW.

Now back to the music. At Suzanne's request, Miss Aretha, everyone!

Respect

Chain of Fools

Kate Carlisle said...

Ms Hellion, Ghosts are always welcome in Edinburgh Castle! Welcome, Lord Byron!

Nancy - I have seen that episode of White Collar! Wasn't it cool?! I love that show - but the vault room was so neat :D (I er, didn't pay as much attention to the comics, lol though I know they're a big deal.)

Kate - haha, consider it done! :P A pineapple fizz is rum, pineapple juice, and club soda/seltzer. Or, for extra pineapply goodness, pineapple rum :D
I'm already trying to find my next "love it" drink though.

And yay! If Books Could Kill! Love the covers. I can't wait to see what happens!

Donna MacMeans said...

Hey Kate - Fabulous party for a fabulous book!

I brought Nick Fillion in his leather kilt as my date. Actually, he begged me to bring him as he's a fan of your murder mysteries - and who can refuse a hunk in a kilt on his knees?

Love the location. Love what you've done to the place (grin). I've not been to Scotland before, but I did see the Stone of Destiny while it was in London. Does that count?

For the exchange - a fabulous sexy pink corset, of course! Not the plaid corset with black lace that I'm currently wearing. Mustn't let the girls down, you know.

Now I'm off to the dance floor - I think Lady Gaga is getting ready to do Poker Face.

jo robertson said...

Whooooot, Kate! Congrats on the release of your second Bibliophile book. Can't wait to read it.

WTG, Anna. The rooster's come back to Oz!

Maureen Child said...

OOOH, Kate! So thoughtful of you to rent out the palace. And oh my goodness, hello Danny!! I'm sorry what were we talking about?

Ah yes. the BOOK!! Big congrats, Kate! May this one too hit the NYT!

Jennifer said...

Awesome party! Kate, I'm so excited about IF BOOKS COULD KILL!!!!

Now what did I bring to the party? Why my magic wand...thought I might be able to use it to, umm, well how do I put this delicately? I thought perhaps we could uncover the mystery beneath the kilts.

But if that's not allowed, then I'll just stare at Hugh Jackman while waiting to get my hands on Kate's book!

Congrats, Kate!

Kirsten said...

Hey Kate -- congratulations!! I love your books and can't wait to share the new one with everyone I know. :-)

I'll drop by the party later tonight -- DDJ you know. But by then I figure things will really be swinging. I will drag along my husband (he's got great legs -- I'll just have to convince him to get into a kilt) and we'll bring a few bottles of bubbly and promise to share a couple of nights' stay in our Tuscan Villa.

Or maybe the Malibu beach house? No, not exciting enough. Hmmm....I know, since I write for Disney, of course they let me use the park whenever I want! So we'll just have to throw our next party at Disney World. Everyone okay with that? :-)

Laurie said...

Congratulations, Kate! Since discovering Homicide in Hardcover at last week’s blog, I picked up a copy and read it on Sunday – didn’t get anything else done. Perfect timing too since now I can immediately read Brooklyn’s next adventure in Scotland. I got a chuckle over the siblings names – her parents sure got around and are great characters. Actually, I loved all the characters.

Great party! I’ve never been to one in a real Scottish castle before. I haven’t seen Anna yet, though. Is she still up on the battlements? Partying up there with G.R. and Robbie might get a little dangerous, not to mention drafty!

The gift I’m bringing is a year’s worth of Merry Maids. That frees up time for writing and partying, right?

Wishing you fabulous sales!!

Kate Carlisle said...

limecello, you've sold me. I am officially switching to pineapple fizz for the rest of the evening!

Donna, glad the girls are well supported while we dance to Poker Face. Gaga is amazing!!!

Thanks, Jo! Grab a drink and a man and make yourself comfortable!

Maureen, Ooooooh! That makes me so nervous and excited and... Danny! Quick, over here! Fan me with your kilt!

Jen, A magic wand is always a good gift! So how shall we unravel the mystery of the kilt? Actual unraveling, perhaps?

Kirsten, The Tuscan villa sounds pretty heavenly, but I'd be thrilled to have the next party at Disney World. From one castle to another! Thanks so much for joining the party!

Deb said...

Congratulations, Kate, on the release of your book!

Castle, kilts, men, ahhhh.

Will Sven be available for massages? (Yes, ask Anna C.; I am partial to our dear boy Sven.) I think I will bring an old-fashioned jukebox. We can dance to some oldies, but goodies.

For the gift exchange, I'd like to bring a silk, plaid rose for everyone since I think every single Bandit, Bandita, and all friends are pretty special.

Kate Carlisle said...

Oh, Laurie! Laurie, Laurie, Laurie! A year's worth of Merry Maids just might be my favorite gift so far. I'll even trade you my Aston Martin for it! Whattaya say?

I'm tickled that you enjoyed Homicide in Hardcover. I hope you'll love If Books Could Kill, too. I don't want to spoil any surprises, but I will tell you that all of your favorite characters make an appearance! I had sooooo much fun writing this book!

Kate Carlisle said...

Deb, Thanks for the roses! What a special treat. I know we're in Scotland, not Spain, but I suddenly feel a flamenco coming on! (Cringing at the misplaced apostrophe in the video.)

So I'm coming alone since Hugh is already here. But I did bring some Belgium chocolates and a bottle Dom Perignon for the party.

And then it's back to the cave for me. Feb 28 is coming far too fast.

Congrats Kate!!
Don't enter me in the draw, I won a copy of your book at the Dish, *watching my mailbox* I cannot WAIT to read it!!
Oh my, a Scottish themed party, I cannot think of anything better than tall, broad shouldered, muscular men wearing nothing but a kilt.
Its time to stuff Sven in a kilt. Now.
Barkeep! I'll have a Clansman! No, it's a drink, though you can send Lachlan MacDougall over to me later...
A 'clansman' is 1 measure Whisky, 1 measure Martini Bianco, dash of Drambuie. Stir all together, strain and serve with a cherry.

And I want Daniel Craig to make it for me...*drool*

Kate Carlisle said...

Minna, I'm in love with Ronan Keating! Look at those eyes! In fact, I did just that during the entire song. Sigh! Any man who uses the phrase "blooming heather" in a song has a leg up on winning my heart.

SHEESH! I KNEW this party would get started early and run very very LATE!

But Edinburgh Castle? Kate, what a DIVINE IDEA! (plus we don't have to clean the Lair, before or after -- the cabana boys are cheering) Since we are in Merry Scotland and kilts are mandatory, I've brought my own wee Scots lad for a date -- Ewan MacGregor. Doesn't he look adorable in his kilt?

Aunty has also brought small mirrors for everyone's shoes, so we can find out once and for all WHAT IS (and is not) under all those tartans plaids! AHEM!

As for my party gift, I brought Puxatawney Phil so there is NO WAY he will see his shadow today and we can all have an early spring!

Now I'm off with Ewan to argue the merits of Irish versus Scotch whiskey. ;-)

A man walked into a pub and had a pint or two with the locals, when in walked an old Scot in a kilt. Feeling little pain from his ale the man asked the Old Scot..."Sir, what exactly is worn under a kilt."

The Old Scot got a twinkle in his eye, finished his pint and leaned in close as if divulging a grand secret. "If you're lucky, lad...lipstick."

Laney4 said...

Let's see now. I just took hot brownies out of the oven, so I could bring those to the party. They are dee-lish! I've heard you can never go wrong with chocolate.

Speaking of dee-lish, I'd have to see if I could bring George Clooney with me. He might not be available (especially since he has another pesky GF, LOL), but I could give him a call.

Oh! I have some ice brandy wine. Will that do? It too is dee-lish!!!

Have a good one, Ladies!

gigi said...

Hi Kate,

I love what you did to the castle.
I am glad someone invited me to a Scottish party I finally will get to wear that kilt I got a few years ago.
You can tell Hugh that I will take a strawberry daiquiri out on the balcony.

Oh, for the gift exchange I got an Audi TT. Beautiful car I hate to part with it, but I think it will fit in nicely with the Aston Martin.

As for Music put anything Bon Jovi does on, that will be fine with me.

Oh, yeah Big congratulations on the release of If Books Could Kill.

GOOD ONE, Suz!

So sorry for being late! It's going to KILL me to wait for this BOOK till the weekend!!!

Ok, so....my date is Andy Whitfield who plays SPARTACUS on the new Starz mini series. He is one hot gladiator (Relax Demetrius...he can't compare to you and the other boys...much). And a loincloth is CLOSE to a kilt.

I THINK he's an Aussie and can I just say you girls down under got more than your fair share of hot guys!!!

My drink in honor of the Gaelic setting is Bailey's on the rocks.....lots of Bailey's. ALMOST as good as Sangria and my gift???

And my gift? The combination to Andy's loincloth :-)

Joan said...

Gannon said: but we were in Edinburgh for the Military Tattoo.

Tattoos!!! What a marvolous idea!!!!

Look! The GR's got all the ink and stuff set up by the bar!

Kate Carlisle said...

Cindy, great gift! I've been wondering, if my book doesn't see its shadow, does that mean it'll spend six weeks on the bestsellers list? Or is that if it DOES see its shadow? I can never get those straight!

Drew, Chocolates are always a popular gift! Yummy!

Suzanne, LOL!!!!!! I'm going to remember that one!

Laney, I'm sure George will be able to make it. After all, it's just a short plane trip from his place on Lake Cuomo in Italy. He can bring all his jet-setting friends. Oh, look! They're here! George's legs are a little pale, but he still looks mighty fine in a kilt.

Kate Carlisle said...

Gigi, just for you... Bon Jovi live in Scotland! Hugh's on his way out with your daiquiri. Tell him he can take his break so you two can rock out for a few minutes.

Joan, I'll take that combination! LOL! As you know, kilts are mandatory at this party, but as long as Andy's loincloth is plaid, I won't kick him out!

Anna Campbell said...

Hur indeed, Keira. In fact I'd go so far as to say BUN HUR!!!! Ouch! I should lay off the fluffy ducks!

Dianna, keeping gentlemen hot is my vocation. Oh, all right, at the moment it's poultry but I like to think I could keep gentlemen hot!

Anna Campbell said...

Gannon, sadly the rooster has had so many drams, I've started calling him the DRAM-a Queen!

I asked Robbie and this is what he came up with:

Och aye the noo, I have a wee drool
Over these lassie banditas so cool
I've shucked of my kilt
So you can see how I'm built
But some rooster has called me a fool!

Hmm, clearly the poetic gifts didn't survive the transfer to the other side!

Snokered? Now that's a new term for me! My imagination is going wild, Suz!

Hellion, since Lord Byron turned up, he and Robbie are comparing conquests and I'm not getting nearly enough attnetion!

Laurie, I returned from the battlements looking windswept and interesting. Robbie's been translating 'snokered' for me!

Anna Campbell said...

Suz, snork!

Now I'm off to rob Robbie of his virtue!

Pissenlit said...

Woo! Partay! *sashays into the party in a tartan skirt*

Congrats on the release!

I'm off in search of Hugh...*cough* I mean...a drink...

Kate Carlisle said...

Anna, I thought Robbie's poem to the Banditas was pretty good...for a dead guy! LOL!!!

Pat, Welcome back! Glad you're here. The DJ is queuing up your requests...

Earth Angel

And gettin' my boogie on for the Stones... Harlem Shuffle!

Anna Campbell said...

Yes, but, Kate, I surely don't have to point out that you've been drinking. Hic!

Robbie thanks you by the way and asks if you want another ode in honor of your brilliant self. I told him not to get above himself. He was pretty cool when he was around but these days he's just one more hot Scottish dead guy with well kneaded buns!

A Scotsman stayed late drinking one night in the pub. On his way home, he passed out on the side of the road.

Early the next morning two lassies were passing by and seeing the Highlander they decided to take a peek under his kilt. So impressed one lass tied her hair ribbon around what they saw.

When the Highlander awoke, he went to relieve himself. When he looked down, he said, "Auck, laddie, I don't know what you've been doing, but whatever it tis, ye won a blue ribbon."

Kate Carlisle said...

Miss Anna, my, you truly do have a way with words! "hot Scottish dead guy with well kneaded buns" I sprayed pineapple fizz all over poor Danny!

Suzanne, Every man thinks he ought to wake up with a blue ribbon!!!

Anna Campbell said...

Suz, have you got more of these wee naughty jokes? I love 'em!

Kate, glad my awful joke caused amusement! For some reason, I seem to be in double entendre heaven today!

Beth said...

Yay, it's launch day for Kate!! I am so excited to read If Books Could Kill!!

As for the gift exchange...hmm...can I give away one of my teenagers??

Kidding, I'm actually sort of fond of the little buggers.

Congrats on your release :-)

Kate! Whoo! Pineapple fizzes are lots of fun. Incidentally I need more pineapple rum and pineapple juice...
I also like having both on hand because I like making frozen fruit smoothies. Toss in some frozen strawberries and mango - and delicious! A healthy drink with a kick ;)

If you're feeling adventurous there's the Blue Motorcycle, which I also enjoy. Or the pink lady - which nobody knows about. (And sounds gross once you check the "recipe" but is so so good!)
And/or disaronno, lime juice, cranberry juice, and some ginger ale.
Can you tell I go for girly drinks? :D

Loved the speech - and oh my. Karaoke!?

lol I'll trade you drink recipes for a copy of If Books Could Kill. *cute eyes* O;)

Anna Campbell said...

Only sort of fond, Beth. Laughed my head off at that!

Lime, Kate certainly has to give you points for trying!

Miss Anna (and Kate),

I've been pondering on the puzzle
posed by your previous comment!
"Well kneaded buns." Kneaded by
whom? Who needed them? Who or whom?
I don't know! I just know my tongue is getting tangled! I had best cut back on that special Merlot before I cause myself more problems!

Beth, How about giving away your teenagers for a few hours? I've got lots of teenager-y type chores around my house!

Lime, can't trade you for the recipes, but if you come to my house and fix me drinks, I'll read If Books Could Kill out loud to you! I might be slurring a little at the end, but that's the deal!

LOL, Pat!

Anna Campbell said...

Pat, sounds like you're yet another victim of Merlot the Magician! Snorting about needing Robbie's buns!

Kate thanks for giving Hugh a break.
We enjoyed the Bon Jovi concert you sent my way.
The castle has really filled up since I stepped outside.
Those pineapple fizzies sound yummy I think I'll order one.
Great party.

Louisa Cornell said...

WOW! This IS an occasion! La Campbell has captured the Chook!! And he looks so cute in his little kilt! No, Goldie, I do NOT want to see what you are wearing under your kilt!

I'd love to see what Gerard is wearing under HIS kilt, Suzanne!

Congratulations, Kate !!! I am so EXCITED for you!! Can't WAIT to get my hands on this one and Mom actually beat me to the punch. She has her copy already!

What a great setting for a party! Uhm, are the cabana boys SUPPOSED to be swinging from the battlements like that? Oh, never mind. They're trying to elude the Duchesse of Snorkdom's wandering hands. Those kilts provide way too easy access. Hang on, Duchesse, I'm right behind you!!

Oh and if anyone needs them for later I brought a stack of my handmade quilts to keep everyone warm. Great for snuggling in front of a roaring fire or for hiding under if things get too HOT for public view!

Kate Carlisle said...

Louisa, Thank you!!! And thank your mom for me, too! So glad you joined the party. The quilts are the perfect touch! The music has slowed, the sun has fallen, and the castle is getting a little chilly. I've got one of your beautiful quilts wrapped around me as I sway to the soft sounds of acoustic guitar.

Anna Campbell said...

Kate, I've never heard a cabana boy called a quilt before! Is that an Americanism? Snork! Actually, that's no cabana boy! That's Monsieur Burns! The cad!

limecello said...

Anna - A+ for effort, right?! ;)

Kate. Heh. You think I won't take you seriously. And that's *your* mistake. Where do you live? And have I mentioned I've got a free round trip from Air Tran to anywhere they fly? ;)

Also - total deal. I'll mix the drinks, you read, and I think there could be some very interesting alternate endings too. Like the special features on a DVD ;P

Kate Carlisle said...

Anna, snork! I should've known you'd go there!

Lime, well, currently, I live right here in the Edinburgh Castle. Does Air Tran fly here? :)

Kate Carlisle said...

Thank you, everyone, for partying with me today! You're the best! Seriously, the absolute best! I knew I could count on the Banditas to share my joy in a big, big way!

Don't worry about cleaning up after yourselves. We have men for that sort of thing!

Anna Campbell said...

Kate, congratulations again on the release of IF BOOKS COULD KILL! I'm sure you've got another major hit on your hands. And it's been a blast of a launch party!

Becke Davis said...

Kate - sorry I was late to the party! I posted a link to your book at B&N's Mystery. I'm very eager to read this -- loved the first book!

Anna Sugden said...

Sorry I'm late to the party - my date, my fave hockey hunk, needed consoling after a bad loss - but my, how nice to see all those almost-dressed men working hard to clean up the castle. What is going on under that heap of moving quilts?

Only for you and your book launch would I put up with all those men in kilts *g*. I'm so excited about If Books Could Kill and can't wait for the Amazon pigeon to bring it.

Hmm - I think you should set one of your books in Cambridge - come and visit for research! And bring a certain shadowy character with you, so I can look after him *g*.

Gillian Layne said...

I'm super late--the internet gods were very fickle yesterday--but huge congratulations!!!

I agree with Anna, set a book in Cambridge. I'd LOVE to read that. :)

Jacqueline Vick said...

I'm still drooling over the pics of Hugh and Danny (as you probably call them). Love the cover, love the humor, love the party!

Kate Carlisle said...

Hey, sneaking in to say thanks to one and all for a fabulous party in the castle!!

Anna, thanks for bringing the ghost of Rabbie! He still rocks, I tell ye!

Becke, sorry you were late but you know, there's always a party somewhere in the Lair! Thanks for the B&N link! :-)

Oh Anna, I hope your hockey hunk was suitably consoled. ;-) I would love to set a story in Cambridge. Wouldn't that be fun! Hmm, I'm already getting ideas. Hope the Amazon pigeon flies fast!

Gillian, thanks for stopping by. As I said before, never worry, there's always a party somewhere in the lair. :-)

Hey, Jackie! Thanks for coming over this way! Danny and Hugh were a big hit. It was a fun--and funny--party!
