A Launch Party with Plenty of Blarney!

posted by Loucinda McGary aka Aunty Cindy

Cabana Boys! Break out the blenders and fill the taps with green beer!

LAUNCH DAY IS HERE for The Wild Irish Sea!

It seems like only last July, I was stuck in the depths of the deadline cave trying to FTFD (finish the first draft) of this book. Oh wait, that's exactly what I was doing... Well, I'm thrilled to say that all that hard work has paid off!

It was such a treat for me to be able to return to Ireland to tell another story of suspense, magic, and love. I hope you'll enjoy reading about my characters and their adventures as much as I enjoyed writing about them.

Even though the 'official' release day is July 6th (the same day as another Bandita's book *KOFF*Susan's Money Honey*KOFF), I received my author copies last week (SQUEE! It's even prettier in person), and Amazon is already shipping copies. I haven't seen a copy in my local bookstore yet, but I figure it is in the back room waiting for the clerk who stocks the romance section to put it out.

The reviews have started coming in and so far they have been mostly positive. (Check out The Long and Short of It Reviews, My Book Addiction and More, and The Romance Studio if you want to read a few.) And in case you haven't already heard what the story is about, here's a blurb to entice you into reading more:

The telepathic image of her twin brother Parker fighting for his life sends Amber O’Neill rushing to the rocky shores of Ireland. Desperate to find him, she turns to reclusive local inspector Kevin Hennessey.

His past full of pain, Kevin has withdrawn from the world. But when the rain-drenched American appears on his doorstep with her wild tales of danger, something more than her sensuous beauty makes it impossible for him to turn her away.

The wildness of the sea, the mystery of a selkie prince, and a dangerous band of ruthless smugglers bring two lost souls together in a connection of mind, body, and spirit that can’t be denied.
Now time's a wastin'! Today is for celebrating and we need to get started. I think the Cabana Boys have the first round of drinks ready to go. The gladiators have set up a chocolate fountain in the foyer. And Sven is loosening up his magic fingers for a massage marathon!

It's 5 o'clock somewhere, so raise your glasses of cyber-bubbly and help me toast my new book!
Sláinte! (that's Irish Gaelic for "To Your Health") and Croi follain agus gob fliuch! (A healthy heart and a wet mouth!)

Now no Launch Party in the Lair would be complete without a giveaway, but instead of the usual random selection, I'm going to hold a wee contest.

All true Irishmen (and women!) are born with a gift of the gab. In fact, most are so proficient that Irish "storytelling" has become legendary. Those with the most well-developed and creative abilities are said to have "kissed the Blarney stone" or simply be "full of Blarney." Yes, yer olde Aunty has received such accolades on more than one occasion. Here's an example of what I mean:

Sure and I've not had a decent amount of sleep in 47 days and nights, then. No amount of pills, potions, or other remedies known to mankind have shut my eyes for more that a moment or two, not even a wee drop of medicinal whiskey. Saints in heaven, but a massage with Sven's magic fingers should have helped, but alas no! 'Tis in right desperate straits, I am, but I'm thinking that reading a few pages of Aunty Cindy's latest tome will drop me right off to dreamland.

Now it's YOUR turn my esteemed Banditas and BBs! Tell me why YOU need to win a copy of The Wild Irish Sea. Don't be shy! Lay on the Blarney as thick as you can. And if you can do it with a wee bit o' brogue, so much the better! I'll award the commenter who tickles my fancy the most with an autographed copy of The Wild Irish Sea.

Let the PAR-TAY begin!

Congrats on the GR, Helen.

Hi Aunty Cindy,
Congrats on the new release. I love launch parties at the lair. My little grey cells aren't working right now, so I'm might have check back later and see if I can come up with something.

PinkPeony said...

I think you need a spa day, maybe a spa week.

My copy of your latest arrived on the doorstep the other day. Hope to crack it open this weekend!

Congratulations on the new release. And congrats on the GR, Helen!

Donna MacMeans said...

It's cool here tonight as well. A wee dram of Irish whiskey sounds just the thing - or maybe Baileys - yum!

Congrats on the release AC. The reviews have been fabulous and that cover divine! Definitely worth a celebration!

Congrats on the rooster nabbing Helen.

Blodeuedd said...

Selkie, oh my, well then I must read this book cos I do confess to never having seen a seal. It is a secret most tormenting to me. They are out there, in the sea, just of the coast here, but alas I have never seen there beauty.

Lol, congrats on the release!!!!

Top of the mornin to ye all and what a lovely mornin it is. My soul is parched from lack of magik and mayhem. I know The Wild Irish Sea will restore me to my natural fey self Auntie C. If you could be sharin a wee bit of magik with me I'd be lifting a dram of the Irish in your honor. Sure and be tellin all what a wonderful work it is.

Minna said...

Aunty Cindy,
Congrats on the new release!

It's so nice to be able to use a computer again! My old one died a slow and painful death!

And our swans who have been nesting here have one baby! They had three, but we think that a mink or a raccoon dog ate the other two and has tried to cath the last one as well, based on the racket I've heard almost every night this week.

Anna Sugden said...

CONGRATS AC - can't wait to read your latest ... when the Amazon pigeon finally turns up with it!

What greater sign of friendship, love and loyalty for an Englishwoman than to read an Irish book written by her fellow Bandita?! (Please don't write on set in France!)

Now, where's my fave hockey hunk, Zach - need those magical fingers to massage me! Got to keep him occupied in the off-season. And a nice cool glass of Prosecco would be good too.

Unknown said...

Congratulations Helen ... save me some tim tams as I will be up to visit GR and get the kettle on we might need it after we have been on the champagne....

Hi Aunty Cindy
I have read the ARC that Helen won and I think the book was great... I didn't read it quite so quick as Helen but it only took a couple of days..... begorrah it would be so great to win a signed copy so I could show Helen I have my own LOL

Deb said...

Aunt Cindy, congrats to you! Hopefully, Helen, the GR won't squawk too much today.

Hmmm, I'm no' sure I am full of blarney. Me lil self will just be honest. I hardly have time to read during the school year, but this summer I have been reading about a book a day!! (Been expensive, but ever so wonderful to this reader's delight!)

gamistress66 said...

Now Aunty, everyone knows that there's no way someone would ever be able to put to sleep reading your book. More likely to forced to stay up all night because there was no way they could put it down before the last page was read no matter how good their intentions to take a break at the end of this chapter, well after this chapter ;) Oh who needs sleep, food or anything else when you've got Aunty's new book to enjoy. :D

Congrats on the new release. {raises glass of good Irish wiskey} Sending various Irish blessings and cheers your way.

jo robertson said...

Clever post, Cindy. Adore your "blarney"! And super congratulations on the release of your wonderful Irish book. I'm lucky to have read it while in manuscript form and it's a keeper folks!

Yay, Helen, does the rooster need a copy of TWIS to read LOL?

I desperately need a copy of TWIS because I woke up with a sore rib this morning and I figure Dr. Big can read to me while I recover!

Kim in Baltimore said...

Aloha, Aunty Cindy! I'm actually in Florida for the summer to care for my father while my mother takes a well deserved vacation. In fact, she's flying today on RyanAir from Bristol to Dublin for a bus tour of the Emerald Island, so perhaps she'll catch some of the magic from the Wild Irish Sea.

I should win your book because Hawaii is a hardship tour - 2400 miles away from any land mass; cost of living is expensive with everything being shipped to the island; the state is broke and cancelled school for 17 days last year (my children volunteered at the Thrift Shop) and it is too far to travel to Ireland.

I doubt I'll receive any sympathy from the Bandit readers, but that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Christie Kelley said...

Woohoo!! Congrats to AC on the release!

This sounds like such a great book. I can't wait to read it. Send Sven over for an arm massage. I took my 13 yr old out kayaking this morning and we had a head wind on the way back. My arms are sooo tired.

Gillian Layne said...

Congratulations on the release!! :) I'm gonna buy it next Tuesday on my trip to the "big" city, and wow is that cover amazing. Love it!

Unknown said...

Congrats Aunty Cindy on your new release! Any book set in Ireland has to be good. It's my favorite place to visit in books!

Loved your post, I am not sure I am full of Blarney this morning! I think you are my best friend today so you should always give your books to your best friend don't you think.

jo robertson said...

Deb, Dianna, and Blodeuedd, what great blarney voices you three have! I think one of you three is in the running!

Jane said...

Top 'o the marning to ye!
I may not be full of blarney, but with a name like mine (my maiden name is Irish), surely I'm meant to be reading this book!

Kate Carlisle said...

Yippeeeeeee!!!! Champagne and TimTams for everyone!!!

Congratulations, Aunty, on the launch of another absolutely fabulous book! Mine is winging its way to me as we speak. (Fly faster, little carrier pigeon!)

Now, I've noticed there's a whole lot of blarney going on in here. In fact, the air is so thick with it, I might need a wee dram just to clear my head. Where's that darling cabana boy? Oh, on second thought, I'll take hockey hunk Zach! What a nice smile he has. Are those all his own teeth?

Anyway, I'm glad I'm not the one who must choose the best blatherer. Good luck with that one, Aunty! And enjoy your launch day!

Helen, have fun with the GR! But keep an eye on your Tim Tams, too. ;-)

Louisa Cornell said...

To be sure Helen will be hearing some blarney today as the GR has the gift of it and no mistake!

And what's to be found at the end of Aunty's rainbow? No pot of gold, but something FAR more valuable! The Wild Irish Sea is the treasure I seek. I managed to capture a wee leprechaun in the garden this morning. He said he's read Aunty's latest and it is all the rage amongst the fairy folke, BUT he refuses to part with his copy! What's a treasure hunting lass to do?

I need a wee vacation from the blarney and blather of the kingdom of Wal-Mart and a trip to the Emerald Isle via Aunty's imagination sounds like a bit of heaven to me!

So, please send a copy of The Wild Irish Sea my way, or the leprechaun is toast!

Loucinda McGary aka Aunty Cindy said...

Morning all,
(Aunty rubs sleep from her eyes and reaches for a mimosa).

Jane, luv, I've no doubt that you can conjure up a wee bit o Blarney for your olde Aunty. Give it a go! (as my Irish relations would say)
:-)

AC

Loucinda McGary aka Aunty Cindy said...

Bribery Pink?

All that talk of a spa day/week certainly sounds lovely! ;-)

I hope you enjoy TWIS. I must admit that this is both my hottest and most paranormal book yet. Hot enough to light a firecracker? Give it a try and let me know!

AC

Loucinda McGary aka Aunty Cindy said...

Donna,
A wee dram of whiskey in the morning brew may help with getting the eyelids to rise, but we definitely need MORE than a dram of Bailey's. OH YUM! Perhaps the Hockey Hunks can set up a second fountain just for that lovely libation.

AC

Loucinda McGary aka Aunty Cindy said...

Never seen a seal?!?! Blodeuedd that is just TOO SAD! They are such wonderful, sleek, smart creatures!

Wait a minute! Was that pure Blarney? You had me goin there, girlie!

AC

Loucinda McGary aka Aunty Cindy said...

Ah Dianna, me luv!

Your brogue is most adorable! I'm sure your sweet fey self will be at least partially restored by a wee bit of the Cabana Boys' latest libation!

Slainte!

Yay Auntie Cindy!!! I'm afraid I can't partake of the golden fleece today, because I'm packing for my cross-country adventure with the kids (we leave at 4AM tomorrow -- shudder). But I did want to stop by and saw how proud and thrilled I am to be your sister Bandita!! Enjoy your launch party and know that I'm raising a glass in your honor! :-)

Loucinda McGary aka Aunty Cindy said...

Minna,
So good to see you back in the Lair! Sorry to hear about your swan-babies. I understand swans have a temperment a lot like geese so they should be able to scare off those predators as long as the baby doesn't wander off on his own.

Step right up to the chocolate fountian, m'dear!

What sign of friendship indeed! More English and Irish should take a lesson from US! And no worries, I have so many other places I want to set stories in that France is waaaaay down at the bottom of my very long list. ;-)

Lars! Since Zach is giving VA a nice neck and shoulder massage, YOU can work on Aunty's delicate lil toes!

Kim in Baltimore said...

Okay, let's try again:

Having kissed the Blarney Stone in 2004
I use my gift of gab one more

Hopefully this Limerick will score!

Kim in Baltimore said...

From Chris in Hawaii,

I long to win The Wild Irish Sea,
Although the book is not for me.
It would be a gift to my wife,
Since romance reading is her life.
So I wrote this limerick for thee, Aunty Cindy!

Loucinda McGary aka Aunty Cindy said...

LOL Barb!
I think very few of us read as fast as Helen! And I love your little "begorrah" thrown into your request. VERY IRISH! ;-)

So glad you enjoyed TWIS!

AC

Loucinda McGary aka Aunty Cindy said...

LOL,Deb!

You're a teacher so Blarney comes with the territory! Oh wait, most of it comes FROM the students. ;-) And YAY for you on reading a book a day on your va-ca! Uh oh, I'm starting to sound like Fo. Maybe I need to cut back on the Bailey's.

AC

Loucinda McGary aka Aunty Cindy said...

Slainte, Gamistress!

Thank you for the Irish blessings and for the wonderful compliment about not being able to put my books down. I'm sure that's not a bit of Blarney 'tall! ;-)

Cabana Boys! Refill the lady's glass! We can't be having it empty, now can we?!?!

AC

Gannon Carr said...

Party!!! Oh, yeah! Where are those cabana boys? My hands are empty! LOL

Congrats, Aunty! I finished the book a few days ago and loved it!! So you don't have to enter me in the contest for a copy.

Helen, make sure the GR doesn't eat all the Tim Tams!! :-)

Loucinda McGary aka Aunty Cindy said...

Again, Jo-mama, I can never THANK YOU ENOUGH for all your hard work in critiquing this book!

Sorry to hear about the sore rib, but Dr. Big read to you on a clear sunny day such as this? I KNOW that's pure Blarney, coz I know Dr. Big would not be reading but playing golf all day. ;-)

I hope you enjoy reading about the auld sod!

Cabana Boys! More Bailey's!

AC

Loucinda McGary aka Aunty Cindy said...

Me Darlin' Kate,
There's nothing like a wee dram of medicinal whiskey to clear the head! Yours should be crystal clear in no time. ;-)

Hope the Amazon pigeon makes it to your house in record time. I can't wait to know how you like TWIS.

AC
not sure HOW she's going to pick a winner either

Kim in Baltimore said...

Now I’m on a roll …

This limerick seeks something other than the book,

But rather a plea for the Golden Chook,

And the magic fingers of the Cabana Boys,

So they can bring great thrills and joys,

For those giving RomCon a look!

Great party - Go raibh maith agat!

Unknown said...

Oh, I'll be hopeless at this, as I can't do a reasonable Irish accent no matter how hard I try, and that means I can't write one either.

However, I can drink Killian's with the best of them, and although my husband loves Guiness, I have not developed a taste for that brew. So Killian's it will be in honor of Aunty Cindy!

Aunty Cindy WOOOHOOOOOO! Huge congrats on your release. Can't wait to read it. Your blurb is terrific and makes me want this book. Along with the bit you gave a couple of weeks ago, you tease!

I'm buried in the writing cave at the moment, only poking my head out for a little bit, but I couldn't resist this. The party bell doesn't go off down in the caves of course, but one of the Cabana boys let it slip when he was bringing down snacks. So I had to at least stop for a bit.

I'll try to check back in a bit later when I...uh...stretch my legs..yeah, that's it...stretch my legs. *skulks away with Killians in hand*

Loucinda McGary aka Aunty Cindy said...

Louisa, me darlin' girl!

Who woulda guessed at all that Irish blood flowing in your veins! But how that that drop of Sicilian slip in there?!?!

"Please send a copy...or the leprechaun is toast" ?!?!?! ROFLMAO!!

Have another drink dearest one! I'll get it for ya meself since the Cabana Boys are all looking nervous after the threat on the leprechaun. ;-)

AC

Loucinda McGary aka Aunty Cindy said...

Kirsten,
Anyone embarking with 2 kiddies at 4 AM needs to take a bottle of Old Bushmills! For medicinal purposes, of course!

Safe journey and thanks for popping in to help me celebrate. The party wouldn't be the same without you!

AC

Loucinda McGary aka Aunty Cindy said...

OM GOSH, Kim!!!

You're limerick was a RIOT! And you've got your DH doing it too?!?! Woman, there is NO HOPE for you! ;-) Might as well have a cold brew and a Cabana Boy or two... SHHH! We'll never tell your DH!

AC

Loucinda McGary aka Aunty Cindy said...

Chris,
If you really did write this and asked your wife to post it, then you are indeed A KEEPER!

If not, well, you're probably still A KEEPER with a very devious wife! ;-)

AC

Loucinda McGary aka Aunty Cindy said...

Terri Osburn said...

I'm late but I got here as soon as I could. Boss returned from vacation today (he was supposed to return yesterday!) and that meant a crazy morning and it turned out this new system is not set up the way it needs to be set up and that means I can't do what I need to do with it and no one really knows how to work it or what the boss wants to do with it.

Throw in that the ship went down this afternoon and it's finally back up, but it thinks we're back in the morning of Feb 11, 2009 - which is just weird. So it's like the pirate ship version of Doctor Who and I'm pretty sure that was a bad hair day for me so I'm not happy.

Add in that my new condo is being inspected in less than two hours and I'm the last person at work who has to lock up and all the packing I have to do BY MYSELF in the next six weeks, which will really be five because I'm still going to Orlando (NO ONE is going to keep me from Nationals!) and basically when you add all this together..

I'm going to need a book to take me away and save my sanity. *breathes* I hear you can help me?

Congrats on the latest release and I promise to do my best to get the Pirate Ship back to the present in time for your visit next Wednesday! (Really, the ship really has traveled back in time. I couldn't make this crap up!)

Terri Osburn said...

Just read that back and realize a) I went more angsty teen on speed than Irish and b) there's not an ounce of blarney in there. LOL! It's actually all true and now I'm more tired for having read it all in one spew like that.

Anna Campbell said...

Hey, Helen, you got the chook for the partay! I hope he's shaking those tail feathers!

Aunty Cindy, so excited about your new book coming out. And that's a beautiful, atmospheric cover, by the way! Sorry I'm a bit late and I'm only going to swing by, pinch a few cabana boys on the butt and then swing out again. Going to America on Tuesday and desperately trying to finish polishing a manuscript before then. But couldn't let the event go unremarked! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!

Anna Campbell said...

Oh, Cindy, meant also to say huge congratulations on the fabulous reviews!

'Tis I, Aunty Cindy, arrivin' back

way by a nasty hurricane. Can ye
imagine they dare to call such a
storm a "herricane" when all the world knows it should be known as
a "himmacane!" Especially after a
few drams of the Irish!!

Now as to yer question,Dear Aunty:
after a lifetime (sixty of me
almost seventy-four years) of carin' for siblings, patients,
parents and me own young ones, 'tis my thought that I should be the one to win yer fine book.
After all, I already own and do
indeed treasure yer previously
published books!

Must tell ye that I'm not an
Irishwoman meself, but after
being wed to Himself, a true man
of Eire, for 49 years - I feel I might as well be! And now, a wee
dram to wet me whistle - Slainte

Lars, Nancy's tired tootsies could use a bit of massage! And here's a wee drop for whatever else might ail ye.

Mmm... a refill, please! Fresh frozen margaritas? Woot! ;) But not nearly as refreshing as a new story from Ms. McGary!

LOL Fedora!

NOW you're getting into the true Blarney spirit!

CABANA BOYS! Refill please! ;-)

Congrats Cindy!! I am celebrating with you with champagne! Love how much all are so loving this book!

I so need to have a dip with the Cabana boys in that Irish Sea! Its the closest I can come to a beach here to cool off! So even tho I will end up overheated with your hero I still will have the Irish Sea!

The Wild Irish Sea sounds great!

Hey Caffey!

Thanks for popping by. Even though the book's title is The Wild Irish Sea, it actually takes place on the Atlantic coast of Ireland. :-P

I've never actually taken a dip in ANY of the waters surrounding Ireland but I'm thinking you'd be way more than cool if you did. Is BLUE a good color for you? BRRRR!

Karyn,
One look at your two Irish Lads and I totally understand why you are late. (Aunty lifts brows suggestively)

Thank you for popping by and for your good wishes!
