It's Kentucky Derby time here in Louisville (break out the riding crop AC) AND we launched the Romance Bandits! Quite a wild weekend indeed.
It is incredibly easy to equate writing with a horse race. You could say we are all high spirited fillies ( my favorite for the fillies race, the Kentucky Oaks came in third. Her name was High Heels. Hmmm. I know how hard it is to WALK in heels, so running would be hard LOL). Some horses favor muddy tracks while others like the fast ones; the same way the Banditas write in different sub genres. Oh, and we look good in silks. :-) We're all in the race to publication and have our eye on the finish line. Some of us have crossed already. Some are there for a photo finish and the rest keep galloping along.
Enough of the racing analogies. Since finaling in the Long Historical category in the 2006 GH, I have had the privilege to get to know this fantastic group of writers now known as The Romance Bandits. They are supportive, encouraging, and incredibly knowledgeable and I know anyone visiting this blog will be glad they visited.
Welcome!

Actually, Joan, you forgot to mention our STABLE personalities. Oh, dear!
I hope I get to see the race tomorrow. I have company coming into town, and I don't know how the timing will coincide. It's so wild to know that Queen Elizabeth II is just a couple hours up the road this weekend. That will likely never happen again in my lifetime.
Actually, Trish, I remember a huge proportion of our school being bused off to an athletics stadium miles away to see her when I was in grade 11 (about 16). I did but see her passing by...
Anna, quit horsying around.
I could hardly believe my eyes, Trish, when I read that QE II is going to visit an American Derby. Must be part of that remaking of image publicity campaign. :)
Welcome to the blogosphere!
Hello to all the Romance Bandits--all familiar names, and two familiar faces (Anna & Cindy). I'm bookmarking and plan to visit often!
Hay(!bad pun alert) Keira, Lacey and Tina! A huge Banditas welcome!
Oh, dear, we've only been live a couple of days and already we're into the puns!
Tina, buddy, chum, mate! Lovely to see you here! Hi Lacey! Thanks for dropping in on the banditas.
Welcome Keira, Lacey and Tina! You will note that dear Anna C makes the most of her opportunities to slide in a pun! I never get to see the Derby because my brain has a block against all sporting events, even ones I love! We are baffled every year by where everyone is when we go out to dinner on, say, Super Bowl Sunday.
I fully agree with Joan, though, on the support of The Romance Bandits. You'll find everyone here intelligent, talented and completely wonderful!
Hope to see you all again soon!
School children in England go on bus trips to see the Queen?
I learn something new everyday.
Isn't there a nursery rhyme about going to see the Queen?
Cathy, this is Aussie Anna here who got bused to see the Q (other Anna, we'll have to organize something here!). Welcome to the banditas!
Great fun to make new friends on the blog! Welcome everyone!!

Woohoo! Congratulations on the LAUNCH! Y'all are inspirations!! Blog looks GREAT :)
Congrats on a great launch, ladies. I just had to come over and check it out -- Suzanne Welsh convinced me to do so with her great posts on the Romance Novel TV board. And hey, who can fault a woman who loves the greats like Julie Garwood.
And since you are talking horses and races and such, does that mean you have a few strapping stable hands around?? A gal can't get too much of that!!
I can't wait to read more blogs from you all in the coming days.
Oh, gosh Buffie. Now you've put the image of a "strapping stable hand" in my mind.....Excuse me, while I run over to Churchill Downs!
Kudos to The Queen btw who had...I think... the most stylish, pretty ensemble. Fushia bows on her hat! She went all out!
With the way the Brits do up the Royal Ascot races, I'm not surprised the Queen was so stylish. She's had lots of practice.
Speaking of Ascot, does anyone remember the scene from My Fair Lady where they're all at the races and Eliza starts rooting like she's watching a rugby match? ROFL!! Kills me everytime.
Suz
Buffie is obviously a woman who realizes what's important in sports! Glad to have you here, Buffie. Hope you return soon!
Suzanne: That bit after the races in My Fair Lady when she expounding on the hatpin, and Higgins simply turns away and put his teacup and saucer on his head.
Keira, that is a Romance movie that is often times missed when people talk about romances. The movie starts out with Higgins trying to transform Eliza, and she's the one that turns him from a self-righteous, self-centered loner into a man capable of loving someone else.
Ah, such is the power of love.
