Coming Attractions: July

Welcome to another month of the Romance Bandits' usual works of staggering genius! In addition to our usual lineup of vastly amusing & edifying blogs, we've also scheduled scads of fabulous interviews & guest bloggers this month. Please join us in welcoming the following folks to the Lair!

July 2: Cassondra Murray reports on her chat with the amazing Sherrilyn Kenyon! And it's rumored that Dianna Love Snell may swing by the Lair as well...

July 7: Terri Garey is in the Lairy (sorry, couldn't help it. It rhymed.) Courtesy of Beth Andrews! Terri, a double RITA finalist, takes a lighthearted look at the dark side with her fabulous series about Nicki Styx, a former Goth girlwho becomes an unwilling ghoulfriend to the dead. Her most recent release, A Match Made In Hell is currently available.

July 16: Nancy Northcott brings us Patricia Rice. They'll chat about her 45th (!) book, a paranormal historical called Mystic Rider. Patricia's a bestseller, a multiple RT award winner (as well as other awards) and a 3-time RITA nominee.

July 17th: Aunt Cindy (aka Loucinda McGary) will chat with Deb Werksman, her fabulous editor at Sourcebooks!

July 21: Suzanne Welsh hosts the fiery Jo Davis!

July 22nd: Caren Crane chats with the elusive Liz Carlyle! Those of you who are fans of Ms. Carlyle's NYT-bestselling dark, steamy historical romances may realize she is rather a hermit and creeps out only under duress. Caren, it is reported, jumped her as she left Whole Foods and sat on her organic kumquats until she agreed to appear in the Lair. In addition to being, you know, HERE, she may also talk about her much-anticipated July release Never Romance a Rake. Oh, my!

Now as many of you know, RWA is hosting its annual conference in San Francisco this year, July 30 - August 2. Many of the Romance Bandits will be there, which means you in the Lair will have a front row seat as we stalk editors, agents & our favorite authors in their natural habitats. During this time, we may find ourselves temporarily unable to create your traditional, well-thought-out & properly punctuated blogs, complete with lovely photos. In its place, however, we'll do our absolute best to supply you all with breaking news, delicious gossip & incriminating photos. Bookmark this page & stay tuned...

Happy July!

Boom!

HA! We've been blowing up everything in sight tonight, including a scary close encounter with the neighbor's car. :)

Is the GR scared of loud noises??

Gillian Layne said...

Seriously, this all sounds wonderful. Aunt Cindy, I'm really looking forward to your editor's visit!

I'm so glad you all will be posting all the juicy details for those of us who will be at home. I'll be cheering for everyone from Kansas!

Yay! This month looks to be super. Again!

Gillian, is the rooster celebrating the fourth a little early? Tell him that good little roosters don't play with fireworks. They visited their local town's beautiful (and highly controlled) pyrotechnics.

And yes, Deb Werksman's visit will be super. She's a wonderful blogger and so full of great information.

Ah... yet another exciting month to anticipate in the Lair! Congrats on the GR, Gillian! The GR's probably fine with loud noises--he's spent enough time with p226, hasn't he? ;)

Gillian Layne said...

Are you kidding? The GR is yawning at me. It's insulting. All that training with p226 has left this bird a little hard to impress.

Maybe we'll break out the kiddy pool and blow up things under water tomorrow night. :) I'm making up for all those years growing up with nadda-zip-zero-fireworks on the farm. Loud booms, dry grasses and cattle didn't mix--still don't.

Smoov, fun-fun-fun in The Lair as usual. What a fabulous line-up.

Cassondra, I can hardly wait to read what you and Sherrilyn (and Diana) talked about.

Gillian, no way. Not again.

Louisa Cornell said...

See, Gillian has you all fooled. You THINK she's this nice, quiet speech therapist, perfect Mom, etc. but she is REALLY a pyrotechnicmaniac!! I mean, really, how many people start a historical romance with a dead body - in the kitchen, no less???

This looks like a super month! Love Liz Carlyle and Sherrilyn and Diane are just the best!! Meeting Diane a couple of years ago at a Readers Luncheon is what started me on this writing journey.

Of course any month in the Lair is a blast. Incriminating photos? Hmmm. I need darker sunglasses, a wig and a funny nose!

OOOH...sounds like an exciting month!

Sorry I got quiet *sigh* Between the Internet Gremlins and life, I have been busy.

But I do have good news...I am going to San Francisco for RWA!!! I can't wait! Hopefully, I'll run into a Bandita or two.

Anna Campbell said...

Hey, Jennifer, make sure you come and say hello at the signing! So looking forward to meeting you!

Gillian, you wild pyromaniac, you! The rooster will have fun!

What a great list of coming attractions. I'm REALLY excited about Liz Carlyle. I think she's an amazing writer and she's not in the blogosphere very much. Yay!

Jane said...

Congrats on the GR, Gillian.

Another fun-filled month. There's always something going on in the lair.

Helen said...

Well done Gillian

What another fantastic month coming up here in the lair you guys always make it fun.

I can't wait to hear all about San Francisco I wish I could be there with you all

Have Fun
Helen

Gillian, sounds like you're showing the GR a fun time. Keep his tail feathers away from the explosives!

Sounds like July will be a fantastic month here at the lair. I'm looking forward to all of the wonderful visitors you have lined up. Terri Garey's books absolutely crack me up.

Caren Crane said...

Um, Gillian? I'm a little nervous about you and the GR getting together. He HAS recently been with P226, you know. I think that rather cured him of the "loud noises" thing. *g* Be careful!

July is going to be AWESOME!! And ending it with the RWA conference is just a gold-plated cherry on top. Woo hoo!

Caren Crane said...

Oh, and it may not have been her kumquats I sat on, but Liz Carlyle took some arm-twisting. And she totally loves me! So make sure you shower her with adoration. You may never see her again. *sigh*

Buffie said...

July sounds like another fabulous month here with the Banditas. But what else are we to expect except fabulousity!!!!!! I am very excited about Liz Carlyle -- I just love her stuff!

Christine Wells said...

Gillian, congrats! Sounds like the GR is taking it all in his stride. Just make sure you don't blow our poor rooster up, or the feathers will really fly!

Incriminating photos? Of MOI?? Do be serious, Smoov. Any dancing on tables I do will be kept strictly in the Lair vault.

Jennifer Y. great to hear you're coming to San Fran. Would love to see you and all our Bandita buddies--especially at the signing, where I shall hope I am sitting next to JR Ward so I can pretend her queue is mine;) Make sure y'all get an RB button, won't you?

And I'm excited about all our guests, especially Liz Carlyle, who is one of the finest writers of historical romance around, IMO. Liz hardly ever gives interviews, so this is a very special event!

Beth Andrews said...

Wow, July is going to be another fabulous month in the lair!! I'm so looking forward to all our guests and of course, seeing everyone in San Fran *g*

Gillian, congrats on the GR!

Jennifer, so glad you'll be in San Fran!

Terri Osburn said...

What a line up, ladies. And the coup on Carlyle. That's big time.

Gillian, when I saw the first post of "Boom!" I thought you shot the bird. LOL! Good thing he still has that Kevlar from him training with p226.

I'm beyond excited about Nationals. And I already have my RB button thanks to Aunty. It's an official part of my conference flare. LOL!

I'll have my camera at the ready and be doing updates over on the pirate ship as well. (www.romancewritersrevenge.com) So be prepared to see lots of Banditas smiling faces!

Elyssa Papa said...

Sounds like a great program coming up, but you banditas always have great stuff.

hrdwrkdmom aka Dianna said...

It all sounds wonderful, all are among my fav writers.
July is going to be a booming month!

Loucinda McGary aka Aunty Cindy said...

Congrats Gillian and there should be some interesting pyrotechnics over Kansas tonight. I'll tell my sister (who lives near the Kansas/Okla border) to keep an eye out.

Oh, and I guarantee My Editor, Deb will give some great info on submitting to Sourcebooks Casablanca. Unlike some others who hem and haw, Deb will tell you exactly what she's excited to read and acquire. :-) So please pass the word. And on our other wonderful guests as well! Yes, it's true, here in the Lair, we give good blog. ;-)

Loucinda McGary aka Aunty Cindy said...

YAY Jennifer Y!

Can't wait to see you and all our Bandita Buddies in SF. I may not have a book to pimp this year, but you will definitely see me and many other Banditas prowling the literacy signing event. We will be (ahem) gently steering the crowd toward our signing Banditas: Madame Wells, La Campbell, Donna, Le Duchesse Jeanne, Tawny Depp and Wonder Beth.

Oh and for all you who have never been to the City by the Bay, do NOT expect it to look like the pic Smoov found. That shot was either computer enhanced or taken on a rare winter day in 1987. Expect it to be cold and overcast with fog rolling in shortly before sunset. But it's still a FABULOUS CITY!

Suzanne Ferrell said...

OMG!!! Jennifer Y you're coming to San Fran?!?!?!? Can't wait to hug ya girl!

July is going to be so hot, we're gonna talk about some firefighters with Jo Davis, which will make things sizzle even more. hehehe

cheryl c said...

It sounds like July is going to be a fun month! Of course, it's always fun around here! ;)

Susan Sey said...

Congrats on the GR, Gillian! Have fun blowing stuff up--it's close enough to the 4th to get away with it, too. :-)

Susan Sey said...

Louisa--a disguise will *not* save you! We banditas will not be fooled! We can, however, be blackmailed, so I suppose if you were to lay hands on incriminating photos of us, at, say, the bar or something--not that we would ever drink to excess!--you've have yourself a bit of insurance. :-)

Just a thought...

Susan Sey said...

Jennifer Y--YAY! San Fran is going to be SUCH a blast--even more so now that you're joining us! Anybody else??

Susan Sey said...

Oh, & flchen1? I bet the GR is stone deaf after his time with P226. :-) It's not that he's mocking you, Gillian. He just can't hear you. Or he's trying to pop his ears or something.

Susan Sey said...

Hey, Keira--yeah, it's going to be another awesome month. Thanks for swinging by. Have people been by Keira's blog yet? Check her out--there was a new post yesterday...

Susan Sey said...

Hi, Jane--yes indeedy, it's always something in the lair... Thanks for dropping by to see what's up & come on back for all our upcoming awesomeness! :-)

Susan Sey said...

Aw, Helen, we wish you could be in San Fran, too. Make sure to keep your eye on the lair while we're away, though. It'll be the next best thing, so long as I can figure out how to download photos to my laptop!

Susan Sey said...

Hi, Gannon! Yep, Wonderbeth is responsible for bringing the amazing Terri Garey to us this month. That's just one of the many reasons she's a wonder. :-)

Susan Sey said...

Hi, Caren! We'll be sure to make Liz so happy she came she won't ever want to leave! Maybe we can send her home with a cabana boy or something? To, um, peel her a kumquat or something? :-)

Susan Sey said...

Hi, Buffy! Caren is responsible for the fabulosity (I LOVE that word!) of Liz Carlyle descending upon the lair, so let's hear it for Caren! Woot!

Susan Sey said...

Aw, Christine, you only dance on table in the lair? You're sure a frothy pink drink or two won't change your mind? I'll be too busy dancing on my own table to take pictures, promise... :-)

Susan Sey said...

Oooh, Terrio! Banditas aboard the pirate ship? Maybe I ought NOT to dance on the tables after all?

Nah. My kids will be at home & I'm neither pregnant nor nursing for once. A little table-top dancing is totally in order, no? :-)

Susan Sey said...

Elyssa--thanks for the vote of confidence! We try, or I should say others try on my behalf. Because aside from the banditas & people the banditas have introduced me to, I know nobody. :-)

So I'm as excited as anybody about our lineup this month!

Susan Sey said...

hrdwrkmom--yep, July's a boomin' and not just because certain people (*cough*gillian*cough) keep handing the GR explosives. :-) We're excited about the line up & hope you all enjoy our guests as much as we do!

Susan Sey said...

Oh, AC, thanks for the shout out for our signing banditas at the Literacy event! We should all turn out to support literacy & our fabulous sisters in banditahood!

Susan Sey said...

Cheri2628--yep, we're pulling out all the stops. What the heck--it's summer & we're capping the month with RWA's national conference. (The gold-plated cherry on the sundae, as Caren so aptly put it.) Why not just go for it, right? :-) Stop back often!

Susan Sey said...

Jo & AC--thanks for the preview on Deb Werksman! It's great to know that we're bringing in somebody who'll tell it like it is!

And Jo, that's good advice for the GR. Visit your local town's fireworks display, buddy. No setting them off yourself. (Think he'll listen? Not a chance. That bird loves a big bang.) :-)

Susan Sey said...

Suz--I'm really looking forward to hearing Jo Davis talk about her firefighters! thanks for bringing her to the lair!

Jennifer Y. said...

Yay! I am getting even more excited now about SF...Suz, you'll have to drag me around again to meet all the Banditas...you know how shy I am. In Atlanta, Suz dragged me away from the wall and started introducing me to authors.

At the signing, I should have a stuffed bunny...long story...so I'll be easy to spot...LOL

peggy said...

sunds like a fun month

Dina said...

It's gonna be a hoppin month here!

Joan said...

Count me in as someone who is totally psyched about coming to SF! How cool will it be to meet all our BB's????

The month looks to be quite exciting..kumquats and all.

One last question....

Golden Roosters got ears?

Caren Crane said...

Joanie, the GR *used* to have ears but he lost them in an unfortunate "operation" whilst visiting WV. 'Nuff said.

July is my favorite month every year because of CONFERENCE!! Helen, we wish you could be there but as Susan said, we'll try to send tidbits and, um, photographic evidence...er, documentation. I give up. All pictures from conference tend to be incriminating in some way unless they are staged for posting on, say, a website. I have plenty of those on mine (and they're due for an update!).

Nancy will be doing a conference debriefing post on or about Aug. 9, I think. We will be posting all sorts of goss then!

Caren Crane said...

Jennifer Y, if you're hanging with Suz at the literacy autographing, she will totally put you to work! Suz WORKS the autographing. Watch for her near Jane Graves' line - and there will be a line if Suz has anything to do with it. *g*

I expect the Banditas will have plenty of visitors as well. Remember, if you live within driving distance of SF, we'll be at the Marriott on 4th and the Literacy Autographing is open to the public. So come on down!

Jennifer Y. said...

I was near Jane Graves, when Suz snatched me...LOL
