Just Friends

by Beth

It's time for another Launch Day Party in the Lair! My second release for Harlequin Superromance, A NOT-SO-PERFECT PAST, is out this month and I couldn't be more excited :-)

A NOT-SO-PERFECT PAST is a follow-up to my debut, NOT WITHOUT HER FAMILY and I've had quite a few readers tell me they are really looking forward to Dillon's book (yay!)

I've also had quite a few readers tell me they're surprised I didn't pair Dillon with Allie Martin, another secondary character in NOT WITHOUT HER FAMILY. Even my editor remarked that she thought Dillon and Allie would get together.

I have to admit, I just can't see it. From the moment I first wrote about Dillon, I knew he was meant to be with Nina Carlson and I worked hard to make sure the scenes between him and Allie, while showing a close-knit friendship, lacked substantial attraction and sexual tension on either of their part. I knew they couldn't get together because...well...to be honest, they like each other too much. There's no conflict, nothing to warrant an entire story.

Nothing that will have the reader asking: How on earth will these two ever get together?

But, pair Dillon (an ex-convict with a huge chip on his shoulder) with Nina (a good girl, single mother with serious trust issues) and people wonder, not only how they'll get together, but how their relationship will help each character grow and change to become the people they are meant to be :-)

In other words, putting Dillon and Allie together would've been too easy - on my characters! I do so like to make them work for their Happily-Ever-Afters *g*

What about you? Were there two characters (in a book, TV show or movie) you felt were certain belonged together only to have them end up with someone else? Did the new pairing work or not? And for those who read Not Without Her Family, did you think Dillon and Allie would pair up? To celebrate my launch party, I'll pick one commenter to win a copy of A NOT-SO-PERFECT PAST!

Here's the back cover blurb for A NOT-SO-PERFECT PAST:

He’s the most dangerous man she’s ever met…

Nina Carlson knows all about Dillon Ward. Knows he served time in prison. Knows nobody pulled out the welcome mat when he moved to Serenity Springs. But that doesn’t stop her from renting him a place to live. And when someone crashes into her bakery, he’s just the man to fix the damage.

And Nina isn’t the only one who thinks Dillon’s the perfect man for the job: her two kids have taken a shine to him. Still, she can’t afford to get close to Dillon, even if he is tempting her to toss out her good girl shoes. Because it’s not that she doesn’t trust him. It’s that she doesn’t trust herself.

FINALLY!!! Haha. Guess the GR is my reward for being up at 3:24 AM. (And me being steamed enough to stay up to type some things up and check this blog!)

But anyway - CONGRATULATIONS, Beth on the new release! And I officially have to read Not Without Her Family *and* A Not-So-Perfect-Past so I can make my own determinations as to character pairings :D.

As for pairings... well, admittedly I'm pretty canon. Umm... I know there are some secondary pairings that I've HATED. (And can I go the opposite direction? I have to admit I'm dreading Susan Elizabeth Phillips [upcoming] book, because I love Teddy Beaudine, but I *did not* like First Lady, especially Lucy so... I'm not excited about this pairing. I'm hoping SEP completely changes her mind and pairs him with Meg from WIDFL :P)

I think in one of Eloisa James's Duchess books I also thought one character might get paired with... Villiers? But she ended up with someone else...

Jane said...

Congrats on the GR, Limecello.

Hi Beth,
Congrats on the new release. I did read "Not Without Her Family" and assumed Dillon would have ended up with Allie. I thought Allie hiring Dillon to renovate the bar would eventually lead to romance. When "Lost" first started I thought Kate would get together with Jack, but she hooked up with Sawyer and it worked.

Gillian Layne said...

Congratulations on the release, Beth. I really enjoyed Not Without Her Family, and yes, I thought Dillon would end up with Allie. But I think ANSPP will be more fun to read with the heroine you've chosen--plenty of conflict there!

Christine Wells said...

Woohoo, Beth! Congratulations on the release of yet another great read. I'm one of the readers who wanted to know what happened to Dillon. Glad you got to write his story! You definitely did the right thing not pairing him with Allie. Make them suffer, I say!

One pairing I was really disappointed with was in the movie Four Weddings and a Funeral. I thought Hugh Grant should have ended up with Kristin Scott Thomas character, not that other vacuous piece of fluff! I think the difference is that it was written by a man and men tend to go for women who are easy to be with, as opposed to more work but so right for them! In a romance writer's hands, the story would have ended differently. Grr.

Wow, there are so many great books on my TBR pile at the moment!

WOOOOT!!!! Dillon's story is out! Dillon's story is out. I mean, Nina's story too... (but really, I mean Dillon's story is out!!)

Ahem... Yay BETH :-) I'm so excited for your new release and love that it's connected to Not Without Her Family, which I enjoyed immensely.

Did I think Dillon and Allie would end up together? Hmmm, well, I had inside info, so I'll say no LOL. But I can totally see why you went with Nina, since she'd be such a huge challenge for Dillon and his issues.

And as one who's read and LOVED ANSPP, I have to give a huge shout out and tell everyone to get a copy and read it!!! Its awesome *g*

CONGRATS BETH HAPPY RELEASE DAY

I am so looking forward to reading your new book I have it here and as soon as I finish Donna's book (which I am loving ) I will be starting Dillon and Nina's story and yes I too thought Dillon would end up with Allie but am looking forward to seeing how Nina and Dillon are going to get together.

At the moment I can't think of a couple that I thought would get together and then ended up with someone else I am a nit tired after work today.

Have Fun
Helen

Happy Release Day! The only 'unlikely pairing' that comes to mind is what Allison Brennan did in her first book ... don't want to leave any spoilers in case someone hasn't read it, but it came out of the blue for me. In the end, I thought it was great because it definitely proves that there's no 'formula'.

Right now, I've got two guys in my WIP and neither has shown me he's worthy of getting the heroine. I'm leaning toward one, but my daughter says he should be the villain. I ought to learn to plot.

MJFredrick said...

GRRRRR....I was JUST in Borders yesterday and forgot to look for it! I got Tawny's, though.

Congratulations!

Oh, duh. I ordered it from Amazon. Nevermind....

Beth Andrews said...

Good morning! I have to admit, even though it's my launch party, I'm not in the best of moods since there are two inches of snow on my yard :-P

Is it too eary for a margarita?

Is it ever too early for a margarita? ;-)

Beth Andrews said...

Congrats on getting the GR, limecello! What do you two have planned for the day? Want to come over and shovel snow?

I still haven't read WIDFL - must move that up on my To-Do List!

And if you do check out ANSPP and NWHF, I hope you'll let me know what you think of my character pairings ;-)

Beth Andrews said...

Morning, Jane! I've never seen Lost but I keep promising myself I'll rent the earlier seasons DVDs. Sounds like they figured out a happy ending to a love triangle.

Does anyone wish Kate would've ended up with Jack?

Right now I'm into Friday Night Lights and they're pairing Landry and Tyra together (again) and I just wish they wouldn't *g* I like both characters but I never believed they belonged together.

Beth Andrews said...

Hi, Gillian! I'm so glad you enjoyed NWHF! And yes, Dillon and Nina have plenty of conflict *g* I had a lot of fun writing ANSPP, mostly because of Dillon.

I do love a bad boy ;-)

Beth Andrews said...

LOL, Christine! I did make Dillon suffer in ANSPP but I think he's better for it in the end *g*

That's such a great point about Four Weddings and a Funeral. I felt Hugh was really led around by the...nose...by the Andie MacDowell character :-)

Christie Kelley said...

YAY!! Another release party! Congratulations, Beth. I can't wait to read A Not-So Perfect Past.

Not Without Her Family was fantastic and I will admit I thought Allie and Dillon would end up together. But I totally get why they couldn't. I have the same issue with two of my characters.

I'm running errands today so I'm going to look for your book again. And alert Sven that he's to come to my house about 12pm for the after-errand massage.

The Brunette Librarian said...

I'm glad Dillon isn't ending up with Allie. I like both of the characters but didn't see them together either.

CONGRATULATIONS on your new book!!!

Beth Andrews said...

I'm so excited for your new release and love that it's connected to Not Without Her Family, which I enjoyed immensely.

LOL! What Tawny didn't say was that as my CP who had to read more than a few revised versions of NWHF, she was forced to enjoy it many, many times :-)

Thanks for the shout out for Dillon's story (and yes, I consider it Dillon's story as well *g*) I'm so glad the pairing of him with Nina worked for you!

Keira Soleore said...

Beth, a super, super congratulations to you. I now have another run to the bookstores scheduled for today. Will be back with pictures.

Lime, congratulations! You clearly keep very late hours.

Louisa Cornell said...

Congrats, Limecello! You were determined to nab him, weren't you!

WOOOOOOT Beth !! Congrats on your second book coming out! I am really looking forward to reading Dillon's story. Love me a good bad boy! And I really wondered who you were going to pair him with. I liked the friendship between him and Allie, but I just didn't know if there was the right stuff there for a romance. I like the sound of this pairing with Nina better! YAY!

I have to agree with you Limecello on the person I THOUGHT would end up with Villiers. I was kind of disappointed she ended up with someone else.

However, Colleen Gleason did a great job of pairing Victoria with Max. I was on TEAM MAX all the way!

jo robertson said...

Congratulations on the release of A Not So Perfect Past, Beth! If it's anything like NWHF, it'll be wonderful.

I can totally see Dillon with Nina, so I'm glad you decided to make them work for their happiness.

Snow, oh no! What a crappy way to celebrate your release! Well, you've got us, the cabana boys, and our Bandita Buddies; that's a big consolation LOL.

Anonymous said...

Congrat limecello for nabbing that rooster!

Congratulations on your new release Beth. I feel kind of left out here because I have not read Not Without Her Family. There is just to many authors out there and so little time to read them all. Beth I am just going to have to put you on my wish list.

Trish Milburn said...

Beth, HUGE congrats on your new release! Do you do anything special on your release days to celebrate?

Jane mentioned LOST, and I'm having trouble with the current, post-time travel pairing of Sawyer and Juliet.

catslady said...

Big congratulations!

I agree about the snow - 70 degrees one day and the next thing you know, SNOW!

I'm horrible at remembering names so off hand I just can't come up with any - must think on it lol.

Hellie Sinclair said...

Yes! (And I hear my friend Sin groaning now...) In Lisa Kleypas' Wallflower series, Cam and Daisy kiss and exchange some glances and make a lovely little secondary story in a couple of the books. And then in Daisy's book, out of nowhere, some guy just arrives and marries her. Sin assures me it was a great book; and that Cam totally didn't have anything going on with Daisy, blah, blah, blah...but I couldn't even finish the book. I felt I was reading something else entirely. And I read Cam's book--and it was good, but *shrugs* I don't think I bought the book. It wasn't a keeper for me.

Though since I have plenty of other keepers from Lisa Kleypas, I'm sure it hardly quantifies I didn't care for one book. But I hate it when characters I think should be hooked up, aren't hooked up.

Fortunately in the case of Harry Potter, I was always a Ron and Hermione shipper...and they ended up together. (How could they not?)

I can't think of TV characters or movie characters right now that I think should have hooked up and didn't...

Beth Andrews said...

Hi, Helen! Thanks for the congrats :-) I'd be having a better launch party if would just STOP SNOWING!!

:-)

More margaritas for everyone! I hope the cabana boys are staying warm *g*

Lucky on on reading Donna's book! I'm going to look for it again today as it wasn't out at my local store last week. Wish me luck :-)

Beth Andrews said...

Terry, in one of my WIPs (a YA)I have two possible heroes for my protagonist. I already know which one I want her to end up with but I have to be very careful to make them both super appealing (in different ways *g*) so she's unsure. At least until the end of the story ;-)

I haven't read Allison Brennan's first book. Sounds like a great read though!

Beth Andrews said...

Mary! LOL! Thanks for ordering ANSPP *g*

And you bought COS? Yay! It's a fantastic story. I love the heroine and the hero is no slouch either ;-)

Beth Andrews said...

Thanks, Christie. I'm so glad you enjoyed NWHF! I hope no one felt tricked by Allie and Dillon NOT getting together *g*

Sorry Sven was so late getting to your house for the after errand massage. He was...er...otherwise occupied ;-)

Beth Andrews said...

Hi, RachieG! Thank you for the congrats *g* I'm excited to see this book on the bookstore shelf
:-)

And I'm glad you didn't expect Allie and Dillon to get together. Part of me wonders if I missed an opportunity by pairing them with other people *g*

Beth Andrews said...

Thanks, Keira! I hope you find ANSPP today. I'm heading out tonight to look for it as well. The official release date isn't until the 14th but my local stores often have books out earlier :-)

Beth Andrews said...

I liked the friendship between him and Allie, but I just didn't know if there was the right stuff there for a romance.

Yes, Louisa, this is exactly how I felt when I wrote their scenes! And I love them as friends because they are so good for each other and so much fun *g*

As a matter of fact, in both ANSPP and my Oct release, His Secret Agenda, I have scenes where it's just the two of them and I had the best time writing them :-)

Beth Andrews said...

Snow, oh no! What a crappy way to celebrate your release! Well, you've got us, the cabana boys, and our Bandita Buddies; that's a big consolation LOL.

LOL, Jo! It really is a big consolation. I love knowing you all are here.

The cabana boys don't hurt either ;-)

Beth Andrews said...

Virginia, I have the same problem: There's just not enough time to read all the books I want to read! The only way I could possibly get to every book I'm interested in would be to stop writing :-)

Thank you for putting me on your wish list *g*

Beth Andrews said...

Do you do anything special on your release days to celebrate?

Hey, Trish! Actually, we're behind on our celebrating. I sold two more books to Superromance Friday (yay!) and we wanted to take the kids out to celebrate but they're never home at the same time *g* Plus, our anniversary is Monday and we wanted to go out for that this weekend.

Maybe I'll celebrate the release day by ordering in Chinese food :-)

Can't wait to get my hands on your April release! Is it out in stores yet?

Beth Andrews said...

I agree about the snow - 70 degrees one day and the next thing you know, SNOW!

Hey, Catslady. It's crazy! And my daffodils were finally coming up too (the deer ate my tulips) Thankfully, the daffodils hadn't bloomed yet. I'm hoping they'll survive.

And I wish you all could've seen my older daughter's expression when she saw the snow this morning. The disgust on her face cracked me up :-)

Beth Andrews said...

Mshellion, I haven't read the Wallflower series but it's one my I Wish I Had More Time To Read So I Could Read This List *g* Now I really want to check it out!

And I was always for Ron and Hermione too *g*

Speaking of TV couples, I've only caught a few episodes of Grey's Anatomy but unfortunately they were the ones where Izzy and George were together. From what I understand, these two would've been better off remaining just friends :-)

Trish Milburn said...

Huge Snoopy-dancing congrats on your new sales, Beth! How many does that make total now?

Tawny said...

*grunt* *shove* *exhausted sigh*

There. Six foot chocolate fountain! Just the right size for the cabana boys to take a dip. Oh -and there's a smaller fountain over there *waving* with strawberries, cake and other goodies for dipping, too. After all, its celebration time!!!

Whoohooooooooooooooooooo Its release day!!!! I love me a good party and a good book. This is both ;-)

Janga said...

Congratulations, Beth, on the new sales, on the release of ANSPP, and on another great review from AAR.

I haven't read ANSPP yet, but I do like the idea of Dillon and Allie's relationship as a good friendship. I think we have too few male-female friendships in romance, and I think there's something special about having a close guy friend in addition to female friendships.

I still remember all the anxiety when Eloisa James was writing her Essex sisters books. As a devout Mayniac, I was delighted that Mayne and Josie did get their HEA, but I know some readers were unhappy with the pairing.

Pat Cochran said...

Congratulations on the big day,

that's why you are the author and I'm not!

Huge Snoopy-dancing congrats on your new sales, Beth! How many does that make total now?

Thanks, Trish! I now have 5 sales and I'm really excited about these stories. I'm going to start on the first one asap ;-)

Beth Andrews said...

Whoo Hoo! I love me some chocolate dipped...strawberries *g* What did you think I was going to say? I would never dip a cabana boy. Unless, you know, they wanted to be dipped ;-)

Thanks, Tawny! My youngest is making chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting for me. I love having a kid who can bake *ggg*

Beth Andrews said...

Congratulations, Beth, on the new sales, on the release of ANSPP, and on another great review from AAR.

Thanks so much, Janga! I hadn't seen the review yet so that's a really great surprise!

I so agree about there being something special about a male/female friendship. I love the dynamics between Dillon and Allie because it's so unique. They each have siblings of the opposite sex so it's not a brother/sister bond but a true friendship and it's different than their friendships with their own sex.

Well, different than Allie's friendships. Dillon is sort of a loner :-) He needs a few guy friends!

Beth Andrews said...

Thanks, Pat. And no, I won't let a little bit of snow ruin my party *g* I'll just stay inside where it's warm.

I'm so glad you enjoyed NWHF! I do enjoy pairing couples even if I torture them a bit before they reach their happily ever after ;-)

Beth Andrews said...

My copy of Beth's new book came in today's mail, along with another of her books AND Tawny's new book -- hurray!

Becke, thank you so much for ordering my books! I hope you enjoy them.

I know you'll love Tawny's book because her books are awesome :-) And I'm super lucky because I get to read them before they're released *g*

Helen said...

Congrats on the new sales Beth happy dancing because that means more books for me to read YAY.

I am sorry about the snow but that is not going to stop the party I am sure the Cabana boys will help shovel it away

Have Fun

And congrats on the new sales, too!!!

Woot to everyone who's picked up a copy of Beth's new book (and thanks Helen for ordering mine LOL) You're gonna love it!!!

So, Beth... tell everyone your favorite thing about this book. Just one, and yes, I know I'm making you work at your own party. I'm mean that way ;-)

Anna Campbell said...

Just swinging by late to congratulate Beth on her wonderful new book and wish her best of luck with it. I'm sure it's going to be a mega hit. April is really Bandita Books month, isn't it? Great to see so many new releases in the lair!

Beth Andrews said...

Thanks, Helen. I could've used the cabana boys this morning.

To help me shovel, of course *g*

Beth Andrews said...

Thanks, Suz! My husband and I went to the store but there was no sign of ANSPP.

I'm on the lookout for Donna's and Trish's books as well *g*

Beth Andrews said...

So, Beth... tell everyone your favorite thing about this book.

LOL, you're always making me work, aren't you? *g*

Okay, one thing, hmm? Well, as much as I love Dillon, I guess my favorite thing about the book is Nina's growth. At the beginning of the book she's a bit...timid...about going after what she wants. By the end of the story she comes to realize her own power :-)

Beth Andrews said...

Thanks, Fo, and welcome back! We missed you :-)

Having so many Bandita releases out in April is so much fun, isn't it? I get a thrill every time I see a Bandit's book on the book store shelf :-)

Congrats, Beth! I'm looking forward to reading ANSPP. I thought he'd be paired with Allie but I'll be reading with an open mind. :) I do love conflict and I'm sure you've written another wonderful story for Dillon and Nina!

Beth Andrews said...

Yay, AC, is the lair! So glad you were able to escape the writing cave for a little bit *g*

And I totally agree: We need more margaritas :-)

Beth Andrews said...

Thanks, PJ! I hope you like the pairing of Nina and Dillon *g*

Caren Crane said...

Limecello, congrats on luring the GH back to your house! *g*

Beth, I TOTALLY agree with Christine! Poor Kristin Scott Thomas got completely ripped-off! Andy McDowell's character wasn't even interesting!! Being uninteresting is a crime in Caren World. *g*

Caren Crane said...

Beth, I also have to mention the greatest travesty in all cinematic history: that Laura Linney's character in 'Love Actually' didn't end up with the gorgeous Adam!! How rude was that? I would totally have jumped his bones! Except that, you know, he looks a lot like my son and my son's name is Adam. That made it all a bit creepy, but STILL, Laura Linney should have married him!

Tawny said...

Being uninteresting is a crime in Caren World. *g*

ROFLMAO I love it!!! So what kind of punishment do you mete out for this crime, I wonder?

and not even touching your bone jumping comments. Nope, not me.

Major congratulations on your new release, Beth!! I'm gaga for you!!

PinkPeony said...

Beth...congrats on the new release! =:-O

Ah,finally! There are some people who, like me, think that Kristin Scott Thomas' character in Four Weddings should have ended up with Hugh Grant's character instead of Andie McDowell's character!

One of my favorite movies is "If It's Tuesday, This Must be Belgium" and Suzanne Pleshette's character, a single young woman, embarking on a bus tour of Europe falls for Ian McShane, the tour guide. But in the end, she goes back to the US, alone. Even at 10, I thought she should have taken a chance on him. Sigh.

Beth Andrews said...

Caren, you're so right! I'd forgotten about Laura Linney in Love Actually! I understood her devotion to her brother but I still think she should've figured out a way to have it all :-)

Beth Andrews said...

Thanks, Nancy! And thanks for stopping by :-)

How much longer until your next release? I can't wait *g*

Beth Andrews said...

Thanks so much, Pink Peony.

I think there are more than a few of us who would have preferred Hugh with Kristin *g*

Now I want to watch Four Weddings and a Funeral again! I'll have to see if my local video store carries it :-)

Fedora said...

Beth, after I read NWHF I sort of thought Dillon and Allie might end up together, so I wasn't sure what to think of the combo in ANSPP... but... it totally works! Both books are awesome, and I can't wait to read Allie's story! October can't come soon enough!

As for pairings I didn't expect, hmm... my mind's a big blank at the moment, having just survived six hours of lining kids up and combing their hair--I was one of the parent helpers for spring picture day at school... ;p

Caren Crane said...

Tawny, pry your mind out of that gutter right now! The actor who played Adam in 'Love Actually' looked like EXACTLY the kind of guy I would have gone for in my younger days. No matter how much I loved my special needs brother, I would have found a way to have it all, like Beth said!

PinkPeony, I never saw IITTMBB, but I've heard it's wonderful. I always adored Suzanne Pleshette. It's such a tragedy she died last year! Even if I didn't see it, I'm with your 1-yr-old self. Suzanne should definitely have taken a chance. Sheesh, you're only young once!

Nancy said...

Limecello, congratulations on bagging the GR!

Beth, congratulations on the new book. I'm looking forward to reading it. Like many Stargate fans, I wanted O'Neill and Carter to pair up. They kinda, sorta, maybe did but with no follow-up, and other fans, of course, vehemently oppose this.

Same for Starbuck and Apollo on BSG. I liked the pairing of Helo and Athena.

Scarlett and Rhett (sequels notwithstanding; I pretend they don't exist) would've been a great pair.

I used to root for Superman and Lana Lang, not Lois, but that clearly was not destined to be.

And I'm still hoping Sookie will forgive Bill.
Congratulations again on your new release!

Beth Andrews said...

Yay, Fedora! I'm so glad the Dillon/Nina pairing worked for you *g*

LOL on you combing kids' hair for six hours. I remember volunteering for picture day - so much fun!

Beth, I loved Not Without Her Family and can't wait for ANSPP!! I'll be at Borders this weekend and will run, not walk, to pick it up!!

I absolutely love the cover, by the way. The pretty colors just pop out and it's so romantic! :-)

Beth Andrews said...

Thanks, Nancy. I haven't watched that many episodes of Smallville but I was in the Clark/Lana camp as well but now I'm wondering if he shouldn't be with Chloe *g* Or maybe she should end up with that cute Doomsday guy :-)

Beth, no books out yet at the B&N, Borders, or Target. B&N snippily told me they don't put mmpb before release date and usually a week or so late. Hah! So, I asked them to put in an order for three for me, just so I will have one to take and they'll have two to put out on the shelves. Hah!

Now, as for thwarted couples I thought would be awesome together, has anybody mentioned Little Women yet? Laurie totally belongs with Jo, & it has always, ALWAYS offended me that Amy got him. I'm getting upset just thinking about it. And then Jo ended up with that old Professor? Oh, come ON. If LMA was still with us, I'd write her a letter. :-)

Beth Andrews said...

LOL. Keira! I love how your mind works *g* Thanks for checking and for getting extra books to be put on the shelf :-)

Hmmm...I can't think of anyone in a book or movie that I wanted paired up with someone else. Granted there have been come black moments when the hero/heroine part and you're not sure they will turn around (Pretty Woman for example) but they do - and that makes it all the better.

Sorry for the late, late post - it's been one of THOSE days.

Oooooh - jumping on the Little Women bandwagon with Susan. I was SO upset (as only a young pre-teen could be) when Jo and Laurie didn't get together.

Fiction parrots life Beth. We see people in life we think would be "perfect" together only they aren't really. How many friends have we seen take the hard road to happiness? Overcoming obstacles to find their happy ever after?

I like your thoughts on what makes these two character fun to watch fall in love. :-)

congrats on the upcoming books!

Thanks so much, Robin!

Hey, Kristen *g* I do enjoy male/female friendships, there is just such a great dynamic to them that's so unique :-)

LOL, Joan! I'd say you could have Dillon except Anna and Tawny may not agree since they tend to claim him ;-)

Thanks for stopping by, Donna. Hope today is better for you!

Hi, Sia. Those are great thoughts and so true! Sometimes what 'seems' perfect for us really isn't. For example, last night that chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting my daughter made seemed 'perfect' for me - but not for my hips ;-)

Beth, I'm SO SORRY I missed your amazing launch party! I was on the road yesterday and didn't get to the blog at all. And I was another who thought Dillon and Allie would end up together. When I heard they wouldn't, it was a hands-on-the-hips, frowny-face moment. But hey..what do I know? (grin)

Congrats on the new book, and I can't wait for mine to get here. It's on order at my Barnes & Noble.

Looks like you had a kickin party in the lair. Dang. I could've used a good glass of cab last night. And as to the cover, I know I've said this to you privately, but that is a killer cover. I love the subtle, sexual zing it conveys.

So WOOT on your second book, and I can't wait to read it.
