Bring on the Bling!

by Anna Sugden

My name is Anna Sugden ... and I LOVE winning bling!

There's nothing better to make you feel on top of the world than winning something nice and shiny for your efforts.

Whether it's medals for taking part in a run for charity

Or plaques for winning writing contests

I love them all.
I have my bling scattered around my office - on one shelf there is the trophy I won at a sales conference in Amsterdam for being the best shot in a clay pigeon shooting contest (and I was one of only two women!).

Hanging off a bookcase is my conference name badge covered in lovely pins and ornaments for winning writing contests - including my two lovely pins for being a Golden Heart finalist.

I love to see my friends winning bling too - didn't we all get a tear in our eyes when our lovely Beth won the RITA earlier this year?

In amongst my hockey memorabilia is a framed pic of me with the ultimate trophy in hockey - The Stanley Cup - I was allowed to pose with it because my team, The New Jersey Devils, had just won it. Well, we fans deserve some bling too!

I can't wait for the ultimate bit of bling - a nice shiny contract for a book. I'm sure I can find the perfect little spot for it in my office.

So, do you like winning bling? Tell us about your successes and what you got for them. Do you have your bling in a special place or is it hidden away in a drawer?

Have you got a piece of bling that is your pride and joy?

Have you ever seen/held one of the famous sporting trophies?

Hi Anna

Thanks that may be the only bling I have LOL....
I have won a TV in a raffle, if you can count that.... and I have won a few books in blogs.... I have patchwork and sewing things on display in the sewing machine shop I go to and feel proud when people pass comment on them ... but as far as bling I don't think I have any. My avatar is part of a wall hanging I have done and is going into a quilt show this weekend.

Well done Barbara have fun with him I don't think I can make it down today

Anna

Don't we all love that sort of bling LOL and you will get a contract soon I really want to read one of your stories.

I don't have a lot of bling for winning things LOL it took me till I was 33 years old before I got my first trohpy for ten pin bowling and it is the biggest one in the house and we have a whole cabinet filled with tropies from my hubby and my kids.

Have Fun
Helen

Ooh how lovely Barb - that your fabulous work is someone else's bling! I can see you're a very talented woman.

Anna Sugden said...

Aww thank you, Helen. I keep trying. Hopefully it won'e be too much longer.

Cool on your ten-pin bowling trophy being the biggest one in the house!

Great post, Anna. Who doesn't like bling???

Yay, Barb, congrats on the rooster. Don't let him rummage through your bling box LOL.

This isn't exactly bling, but I won a radio call-in question once and won two tickets to the movies. The question was "Who invented the pretzel?"

Anyone know? I don't know if the answer was correct or an urban myth, but whatever, my answer one! You'd think I'd have won the lottery as excited as I was.

I have a plaque that looks just like the plume one you have pictured from winning the Wisconsin Fab 5 writing contest a few years ago. That's my only recent bling I think. Somewhere I have several trophies from my sporting days (basketball, softball, majorettes). I have a few ribbons and medals from track events, baton, and horseshows. Hmmm... Oh, and a cool medal I won for a free throw contest on my honeymoon many, many moons ago. ;)

I want that contract bling too!

Anna Sugden said...

Movie tickets works, Jo!

How cool that you knew that fact about the pretzels. I don't know the answer - do tell.

Anna Sugden said...

Well-spotted, Laurie - that is indeed a Fab 5 plaque! The one next to it is the Molly.

Cool on all that sporting bling! I'm always impressed by the sporting amongst us as I'm no good!

Ooh - so what was the free throw contest on your honeymoon?!

Our home holds lots of plaques,
certificates, shiny pins and even
an "honorary" medical degree for a
course I once took! The plaques are for newspaper column writing. One of the certificates is for representing our school district in a national competition as outstanding volunteer for the year. The pins are for the hours spent with hundreds of band students over 17 years. We also house two plaques which are very dear to my heart. They are for awards named in my honor, service awards for a student and an adult, given through our high school each year since 1990.

The rewards for thirty-five years
volunteering in our Parish live
in my heart, and rightfully so. They cover activities from nine
years on Pastoral Council, two as
President, to 25 years as Music Minister & 35 years as Minister
of the Word and much more!

Ha, apparently it was Charlemagne! Don't ask me how I even guessed at that one, but I was a history buff at one time.

Forgot to say that I love purchasing bling for special occasions (or having Dr. Big do it, even better!) with the idea of passing it on to certain of my children. It usually takes me 10 or 15 years before I'm ready to part with it, but I enjoy seeing their faces when I give them the jewelry. None of this wait until I die stuff.

Hey Anna,
I hope you get the ultimate bling soon. I wish I had gone to see the Stanley Cup trophy when the Rangers won it. I've also never had the chance to glimpse the World Series trophy even though it's been around the city. I don't have any awards. I do have a few perfect attendance certificates from school.

LOVE your bling, VA!

I have the same Bandita pin as you, and it is one of my most prized possessions, along with the Golden Heart finalist pin. (Aunty wipes a tear of fond remembrance from her eye)

Also writing wise, I have a pin TWS won for the More Than Magic contest, and I'm HOPING for a lovely Maggie pendant for TToV in a couple of weeks. ;-) And of course, who wouldn't love that gorgeous Rita statue?!?! We were all SOOOO PROUD of our WonderBeth for bringing one home this year!

As for sporting trophies, I've seen the Indy 500 trophy (in the museum at the track). It's roughly the size of the Stanley Cup, and each winning driver has his face in profile put on it. VERY impressive!

Forgot to say CONGRATS on the GR, Barb! I know he will be gorging himself on Tim Tams before the day is done. ;-)

GOOD GOOD luck in the quilt show! I love going to those. I'm always amazed at the beautiful and intricate pieces. I'd never have the patience for that myself.

Pat,
The rest of us join you in your conviction that VA will SOON be joining our Pubbed Author ranks! Same goes for the rest of our AYU Banditas. :-)

And Jo, don't forget that lovely little piece of bling you won back in 2006... a certain Golden Heart?!?!

HUGS!

Not bling but books - love winning books :)

Anna Sugden said...

What fantastic bling you have, Pat, and fantastic 'bling of the heart' too!

And, the ultimate accolade - bling named after you! Awesome!

Anna Sugden said...

Charlemagne? Really? I'd never have guessed that one!

Ah yes - bling to pass on - I hope my inheritors like opals *g*.

Anna Sugden said...

Hi Jane! Thank you!

They often get the Stanley Cup at the NHL store in town - and quite a few players too. Well worth checking it out.

I can imagine that the World Series trophy gets some play in the city too - never seen that one. Though I did get a t-shirt shipped over from the Yankees last win!

Anna Sugden said...

I LOVE that Bandita pin!

We'll be willing you on to the Maggie and the RITA, AC.

The Indy 500 trophy sounds so cool! For the Stanley Cup, everyone on the team - including trainers etc - gets their name on it. But the profile thing sounds fab.

Anna Sugden said...

Me too, AC - one of my prized possession from our time in the US is a handmade Amish quilt.

Anna Sugden said...

Aww Pat - thank you sweetie! You know you guys will be the first to know ... and we'll party big time in the Lair!

Anna Sugden said...

On woman's book, is another woman's bling, catslady! Whatever gives you pleasure works for me!

Hi! I don't have whole lot of bling that I've won - just certificates and ribbons. And no, I've never been close to any well-known trophies either. I feel deprived. :(

On the other type of bling, my mother used to work for a jewelry firm and would give us kids jewelry (sometimes one-of-a-kind pieces) for birthdays and such.

Good luck on getting your new bling!

Hey, Barb! Congrats on the rooster. Does he count as bling?

VA, I love your post - especially as I have to confess a big secret that nobody here knows. I LOVE TO WIN BLING TOO!!!!

Yeah, I always get such a kick out of a contest final or even better a win. OK, you made me do it, CAPTIVE OF SIN just won the Heart of Excellence Award from the Ancient City Romance Authors. Go, Gid!!!!! Snort!

Anna Campbell said...

Wow, Charlemagne? Who knew! Couldn't be Alfred the Great - he was too busy burning the cakes!

Yeah, VA, wasn't it a great moment when our Beth won the RITA? Still get emotional thinking about it!

Christine Wells said...

Hey, Anna! What a talented woman you are. Congrats on all that bling!

I love getting out all my pins when I go to RWA conferences. I especially love my glittery Bandita pin! I think the bling I'm most proud of is probably my RITA nom badge, but I'm also stoked about the framed certificate I have from winning Best of the Best in the Indiana RWA Golden Opportunity Contest. Not to mention the Alphasmart that came with it!

Hey, Barb, you've won some rooster bling today! Congrats!

I don't mind winning some bling--that's a lovely thing! I don't compete in many things that offer bling though ;) I haven't come in close contact with any sporting trophies, famous or otherwise ;) And usually, winning a book will trump almost any bling :D

You and the Stanley Cup do look mahvelous though!!
