A WICKED LITTLE PARTY--RELEASE DAY!!

by Christine Wells

As if the Lair weren't rowdy enough on any given day, we're throwing a WICKED party for the release of my Berkley Regency historical, WICKED LITTLE GAME!!

The cabana boys are all dressed up as your favourite rakes and rogues from romance, and YOU, my dear ones, get to come along as any wicked character from history or fiction you care to name!

Despite the title, neither my hero, the Marquis of Vane, nor my heroine, Lady Sarah Cole, is particularly wicked in this book. The game to which the title refers is played by Sarah's husband, Brinsley Cole, a gorgeous, dissolute scoundrel. It begins when Cole offers Vane one night with Sarah in exchange for ten thousand pounds.

Vane has been obsessed with Lady Sarah for years, and the temptation Cole presents is almost too much for him to resist--

Vane sat on a gilt and white loveseat to yank off his boots. The operation required concentrated effort. That was a good thing. As long as he did not think, all would be well. He plunked the second boot on the floor, cursed and dropped his head in his hands.

He must be mad. Surely, he had never made such an ass of himself about a woman before. It had been years since that cold rebuff she dealt him. Years since he’d exchanged more than idle social chatter with her, and that had been infrequent enough. He didn’t even know her, not really. Yet she seeped into his thoughts when he wasn’t paying attention, curled under his skin in the darkest hours of the night.

There's something very enticing about being the sole focus of a man's passion, don't you think? As long as it doesn't seep over into stalker territory, of course! But where do you draw the line between obsession and true love?

Ah, obsession. I think as writers, we have to be obsessive to succeed. After all, it takes many, many hours to get a hundred thousand words onto the page.

I've always been a bit obsessive, even before I began writing fiction with a view to publication. When I was a child, there was a limit on how many library books one person could borrow from our local library, so I would borrow on all the cards of every member of my family. If there was a reading list from which we had to choose a book to review at school, I'd read the entire list. I used to devour all of my elder brother's required reading for his school as well as my own before the school year began. I would also read all my textbooks from cover to cover (except Maths, I hated Maths). Yes, I was a total geek but I'm hoping some of you will identify with this; that I'm not alone in my obsession with books.

I've had small obsessions about other things besides writing and reading, of course. Fashion, drama, antiques, milk chocolate Lindor balls, Spencer & Rutherford handbags, Richard Armitage... *g*

Are you obsessive about something, or unlucky enough to live with someone who is? And don't forget to tell me who you have decided to be at our party today, and what wicked character you've brought as your date!

I have not one but TWO signed copies of WICKED LITTLE GAME to give away!

I can't wait to read this book!! Yippee! I absolutely adore the cover and can't imagine how fun it would be to have THAT cover on MY book. You are such a superstar, m'dear!

As for my obsessions...I guess I've been obsessed with writing for a few years now. LOL. And lately, I've been obsessed with yoga. The problem with obsessions is it's hard to maintain two simultaneously. There just isn't enough time in the day! *g*

Christine Wells said...

Hello, Kirsten! Thanks for the happy returns. I can just see you in some tangled up pose trying to type your latest opus:) Actually, if you're going to be obsessive, yoga is much better for you than choc chip cookies of cinnarolls!

Thanks for celebrating with me!

Christine Wells said...

Oh, and congrats on the rooster, Kirsten! Since it's a wicked party, the Golden One is coming as himself:)

Anna Campbell said...

Wowwowowowowowowowow! Christine, I've been dying for this book to hit the shelves! It's so fantastic and I want everyone to read it. I remember the first time you showed me the opening scene and I started slavering for the rest of it. Sadly, you then had to write it but when it turned up, my excitement was more than justified. Oh, and Vane!!!! VANE! Sigh. Swoon. Drool. That bit where he takes his shirt off for the boxing scene. Oh, my goodness me and hot little potatoes! You're going to have a hit on your hands with this one, Miss Wells!

Congratulations on the release. And congratulations on writing such a magnificent romance!

By the way, Kirsten, congratulations on the rooster!

Congrat Kirsten on nabbing the rooster today!

Congrat Christine on your new release! I can't wait to read it! I guess I have been obsessed over books these past few years. I have always enjoyed reading but these past few years I have been obsessed over books. I have books everywhere in my house. I need to go buy a new book shelf to put them on. I am running out of room. I try to keep everything. I may have to buy a bigger house just for the books.

books! chocolate! sleep! NOT HAVING TO STUDY FOR 10-12 HOURS A DAY! :P
I'm good at obsessing :P

Happy release day, Christine, and congratulations!

And, congrats on the GR, Kirsten! :)

Christine Wells said...

Anna, that's so lovely of you! What a fantastic endorsement. Thank you. And thank you for being such a wonderful critiquer, too!

Now, have a Margarita and tell me who is that wicked looking man on your arm?

Christine Wells said...

Hi Virginia, thanks for coming to my little soiree.

I think we all suffer from lack of book space, don't we? I have boxes and boxes in cupboards, which my dh periodically tries to get me to give away. You'll never read them again, he says. Little does he know!

Nancy said...

Christine, congratulations on your release! I have a copy of the book and am looking forward to reading it. The sneak peek in the back of The Dangerous Duke really grabbed me.

What am I obsessive about--whatever I most recently became interested in. At one time, I could name all the home worlds, real names, noms de guerre, super-powers and vulnerabilities of the Legion Super-Heroes and list similar information about the Justice League of America.

This was similar to the boy knowing what each Pokemon developed into, how it evolved, and what powers it had at each stage. Except there were more Pokemon.

I could, some years ago, name all the monarchs of England from William I to Charles II, after whom I lost interest.

If I collect a fiction series, I'm a completist. I want the set in order, the entire set, and I read in order.

I can be difficult to live with. :-)

Kirsten, congrats on grabbing the bird. What're you doing with him today?

Christine Wells said...

Hi Lime! Yes, yes, and yes (although my law degree was a long time ago now!)

Ah, chocolate. Who's coming to D.C.? Between us, Foanna and I are bringing half of Australia's Cadbury and Tim Tam supply.

I also have an order for Vegemite from one poor, deluded person:)

Christine Wells said...

LOL, Nancy! I used to love the Justice League of America (in TV cartoon form). I'm intrigued by the kind of mind that can retain all of that detail. Both my father and brother are like that about certain subjects.

And I cannot imagine you being hard to live with!

How great of you to buy WLG! Thanks for the congrats. I hope you like it!

Sharon Archer said...

WOW! Christine, I've just read your excerpt for this book and I'm doing some serious drooling! And there's Anna Campbell tantalising us with other scenes! Can't wait to get my copy... now where can I put it in the camper trailer...

I love chocolate... who doesn't! But my biggest food obsession would have to be tamarilloes! Golly, just typing the word has my salivary glands going into overdrive! Slurp!

As for a wicked character for the party... I'm not sure if she counts as wicked but I'd come as Cleopatra... and come to think of it, I have dressed up for a cocktail party as Cleo! LOL The date's easy - it has to be Antony, doesn't it! And since Cleopatra had soooo very much power and wealth, she probably was more than a little wicked, wasn't she?

:)

Amazing cover, Christine. Here's to oodles of sales - all over the world.

Obsessions? Hmm. I have a few. Every week day morning I HAVE to start the day with a walk, a coffee and three pages of journal writing, not five, not two, but three. And my coffee can't be any coffee, it HAS to be a cappuccino, half strength - not burnt, not bitter and watch out, barrister, if it's not hot enough. Before I drink my coffee I scoop all the froth off and eat that delicious bubbly nothing first. Then I sip the contents, relishing every life-giving mouthful. Thank God for coffee. It's kept me sane while I've dragged my eldest son through year twelve, numerous formals and after-parties(he's called rent-a-boy)and proofreading his uni assignments at 10.30 the night before they're due in.

My second obsession would have to be a bath and a book on a cold winter's night. What a sanity saver. I shut out the rest of the family (except the cat) delve into the latest romance novel and I'm a million miles away. I always have the bath water so hot that I'm forced to lie down on the bed and and recover from heat stroke afterwards.

Now I'm sure I could think of a third obsession but I'm beginning to sound like I should be committed so I'll leave it there.

Best of luck with your wicked book.

Happy Release Day Christine!

So you've got a hero and a married heroine? That's got my interest right there. Then there's Anna's comment about the "boxing scene". *sigh* I just have to find out how the h/h get together and what the heck happens to the husband. :)

Funny you mention the library cards - I just swiped dh's card today because I maxed out mine and my daughter's. LOL

I would say books are my biggest obsession.

Congrats Kirsten on getting the GR. :)

Christine Wells said...

Sharon! Or should I say Cleo??

Thanks, and I must congratulate you on your new release for Harlequin medical: SINGLE FATHER: WIFE AND MOTHER WANTED. YAY!! I'm so happy for you.

I'm sounding ignorant, but what is a tamarillo? It *sounds* like it would be tasty.

Yes, I believe Cleopatra would have had to be a little wicked to acheive the downfall of two very powerful men! Nice costume, btw:)

Christine Wells said...

Ah, Wendy, your obsessions sound great to me! What is it about the number 3? It's my favourite number.

I used to be very particular about coffee when I was working in the city and there were so many different blends to choose from. Distinctly remember it got to quite a ridiculous stage where I seemed like one of those characters in Seinfeld. Now, I pretty much take what I can get.

Thanks for celebrating!

Blodeuedd said...

happy release day :D

I will come as, I almost said lady godiva but that is too wicked for me ;) So Eleanore of Aquitane (cos i love the clothes) and my date dresed as Sir Guy of Gisborne from Robin Hood(that is Richard Armitage)

Lol, I can see that someone else had my obsession. I too could name all the monarch up to the present one and I had a obsession with Henry 1.
Oh and with the new York mafia for years, especially Lucky Luciano.

Christine Wells said...

Hi Leslie! Ooh, I hope you enjoy WICKED LITTLE GAME.

Snap on the library cards! We have a library within walking distance now so I go all the time. Plus you can get out 20 books at once. I don't quite hit that limit these days because I buy a lot of books, but it's nice to know.

Christine Wells said...

Blodeuedde, thanks so much for coming along. Ah, I love Eleanor of Aquitaine, good choice! Pull up a divan and have some mead! And I think someone will soon be fighting you over Richard Armitage in Gisborne guise!

Alaine said...

Hi Christine, I can relate to your reading obsession, I think mine is getting worse as I get older instead of better, I also went through a stage of being obsessed with the red Lindt balls, yum. In recent years I developed an obsession with scrapbooking. I also live with a husband who is obsessed with soccer, and consequently so are both my boys!

I would come to your party as Bessy Blount and I'd bring the ultimate wicked character, Henry VIII.

Congrats of the release of your book is sounds fantastic and I'm looking forward to reading it.

Christine Wells said...

Hi Alaine, thanks for commenting! I do hope you like WICKED LITTLE GAME!

Now, of course the all-important question is -- how do you like your Lindor balls? Refrigerated or room temperature?

Ooh, tell us more about Bessy Blount! We seem to have a few characters from history here today. I wonder how Henry would get on with Cleopatra? And is this Henry in his young, fit days or old gouty ones?

Becke Davis said...

Obsessive? Moi? Well, yes - I'm obsessive about reading and writing. Just ask my husband.

Congrats on the new release, Christine! I should be getting my preordered copy in the mail -- or, if it's like the rest of the Bandita books that have come out recently, I'll get two copies, because I most likely forgot and ordered it twice.

Lynz Pickles said...

Congrats, Christine! That cover has been tempting me for ages, and now I'll finally be able to read the undoubtedly wonderful story that lies behind it! (I can't tell you how mad I was at myself when I realized it came out this month and I could've nabbed it for reviewing but acted too late...)

As for my costume... well, it'd seem that I'll have to fight Sharon over it. I planned to come as Cleo, too - I mean, who doesn't love an excuse to pack on the kohl and wear a flowing white dress? - but I don't know if having two of us here wouldn't cause some confusion in our dates... speaking of which, I'm bringing Joseph. As in the Biblical Joseph. Yes, I know he's not exactly wicked - far from it, in fact - but he's one of the first fictional characters I had a crush on (and at the ripe old age of eight, too) and I don't get an excuse to drag him out too often, so I'm bringing my good guy to the party.

As for obsessions... well, there was my Anastasia phase when I was eight, my Titanic phase when I was nine, my years of following every designer, every season... my Tamora Pierce days in seventh grade when I swore a mistake had been made and I should've been born in her fantasy world... books of all sorts, really, and that's my HUGE one these days, but apart from that my worst one was probably manga and anime. Especially manga, though. For yeeeeears I was obsessed with it - obsessed, I say! - and the fact that one of my bookshelves is overflowing with volumes I can't let myself get rid of to this day just bears testament to that fact.

What about you, Christine? Who did you come as, and who's your date? (Or did you already say and I just missed it?)

Amy Andrews said...

Hi Christine,
Happy release day. Can't wait to get to your next delicious offering. I love the premise and love the cover. I was very lucky to have received my own autographed copy recently - its next on my TBR pile.
Have a great party. You deserve it.

For a long time I lived with people who were obsessively neat and clean. Needless to say the moment I got out of the household, I lived like a slob to make up for all my trauma! HAHAHAHAHH!

Anna Campbell said...

Vane, of course!

Anna Campbell said...

Except he keeps giving this other chick the eye. And I don't mean the rooster! I think her name might be Sarah!

Alaine said...

Hi Christine, definitely cold, especially in Queensland weather. Bessie Blount was the first woman who gave Henry a bastard son. I'm thinking Henry when he was young and fit and very kingly.

Oh and I also have the same size book obsession, especially if it's a series and I hate it when a publishing company changes the covers when you are colling one particular cover!

PS After reading Anna's comments I immediately went online and ordered Wicked Little Game! I can't wait to read it!

Jeanne (AKA The Duchesse) said...

Good googlie mooglies, people! You are ALREADY rockin' the place!

I'm up waaaay too late so I won't even try to answer questions about obsessions since at 2 a.m. there are no cohesive answers. Ha!

Kirsten, you have the GR! WOoot! Back from Oz and rarin' to go.

Christine, you absolutely rocked every other book I've read and I'm drooling for Vane, with all the comments and hints Anna's been dropping. (Drat you, anna!)

I'll be off to B&N to get a copy for my veriest own.

And, now, to bed...

Sharon Archer said...

Do you like my costume... I think it's the addition of this new asp! ;)

Ah, tamarilloes... (slurp) I developed my addiction in New Zealand where you can buy them very cheaply... alas in Oz my addiction is much MUCH more expensive! They can cost up to a $1.00 each!
They're kind of acidy and I think they might be an acquired taste, but I LOVE 'em! One of the worst things I ever did was persuade my dh to try a second taste because now he's rather partial to them too. I'm very quick in the fruit bowl these days!
I googled them and was very interested to see that they're a native of South America but now grown commercially in NZ.

Anna Louise Lucia said...

Happy Release Day, Christine! Wicked Little Day sounds like my kind of read...

Obsessive? I'm obsessive about a lot of things... not leaving newspapers lying around (hate the things), eating with the right kind of fork, driving, cooking... but at the moment, my chief obsession is not missing any opportunity to go wild swimming. Last night I was in Derwent Water, after a hot session of Morris Dancing. Drifting in water that was surprisingly cool, surrounded on all sides by some of the most beautiful mountains in the world.

Bliss.

Christine Wells said...

LOL, Treethyme, that would be great if everyone ordered it twice! Thanks so much and I hope you enjoy it!

Yes, reading and writing. I often feel sorry for my dh but he has his own obsessions. At one stage he was watching 4 different codes of football and playing touch football 3 times a week. Thankfully, that phase of our life is over.

Lynz Pickles said...

Alaine: yes! The same size book thing! I HATE it when they change the covers! What's even worse is when you've got trade paperbacks but then the newest title comes out and it's in hardcover... but you don't want to have to wait until it's in paperback to find out what happens. Do you buy it in hardcover and have that annoying inconsistancy? Do you wait until it's out in paperback and nearly die of curiosity? Do you buy it in hardcover, then buy it in paperback again... and if so, how can you afford that? Some of the great questions of the universe, indeed.

PinkPeony said...

Hi Christine! Congrats, Kirsten.

Christine...congrats on your latest release! My obsession is dishes, serveware and table linens. Hubby is in the paper business and asks why we don't use paper plates.

I don't know too much about him but what I've seen so far I like..I'd like Jardine to be my date. :) Best of luck on the RITA!!
Jen

Alaine said...

Lynz, the dilemma is torture! I sometimes ask my friends if they are buying it in hardback so I can read it and wait for the right 'size' but I usually can't wait and end up buying it in whatevery I can get. I don't understand why they release some in Trade paperback and others in hard, is it just to drive us crazy?

Christine Wells said...

Hi Lynz! Wow, that is an interesting array of obsessions! I didn't know you were a reviewer. Who do you review for?

Hope you enjoy WICKED LITTLE GAME.

I've never gotten into Manga or anime but given its popularity I'm not surprised to find people are obsessed with it.

And hey, I'm sure we can accommodate 2 Cleos, especially as you'll have Joseph and not Marc Antony!

Actually, I'm going as the wicked and wonderful Jane Digby, a Regency lady who led a scandalous and fascinating life and ended up marrying a Bedouin Sheikh. For my escort, I think I'll choose another man, however, Lord Byron. I think he'll add a nice touch of wicked wit to the party!

Christine Wells said...

Hiya, AA! Thanks so much for dropping in, honey. Did you finish that book? (Not mine, yours, I mean:)Hope you're enjoying school hols!

Christine Wells said...

LOL, Llehn, I can identify with that!

Christine Wells said...

Haha, Anna, you know that book almost didn't get written because I wanted Vane for myself:)

I think Sarah might be kind enough to lend him to you for the night.

Christine Wells said...

Alaine, that's wonderful. Thanks for ordering your copy of WLG!! That Anna should earn a commission, really she should!

You know, with the number of books I've read and series I've seen about the Tudors, you'd think I'd remember about Bessie. I assumed she was one of his mistresses. I hope she went on to have a happy life, unlike some of his wives!

Cold Lindor balls? Hmm, I really like them soft. Not really runny, but you get that explosion of soft Swiss chocolate... Mmm.

Christine Wells said...

Jeanne, thanks so much for swinging by. I can't believe it. What are you doing still up!!?

Sweet dreams!

Christine Wells said...

Oh, Sharon! LOL They're fruit! I thought it was something Mexican, but maybe that was tamales:))

I think I've seen them before. I love acidic fruit. I must try them.

Jane said...

Congrats on the GR, Kirsten.

Hi Christine,
Happy Release Day. Can't wait to read "Wicked Little Game." I'm quite obsessive about having to know what the plan is. If we're going out, I need to know a few hours in advance so that I can work out my schedule and have time to get ready. I'm not high maintenance, but it gives me peace of mind to know that I won't need to rush to get out the door. My date to the release party is Casanova. He definitely knows how to have a wicked good time.

Christine Wells said...

Oh, and yeah, it's definitely the asp:p

Christine Wells said...

Hi Anna Lucia, how cool to see you in the lair!

Morris Dancing??? That always reminds me of an episode of Blackadder I when he's trying to put on a concert for the court.

Actually, I share your irritation with newspapers. Thank goodness we only get them on the weekend now that dh reads online. Thanks for dropping in! I'm looking forward to Sweaty Socks ahem, I mean, DANGEROUS LIES!

Christine Wells said...

Snork! Lynz, you crack me up.

I'm going to have run, ducking for cover because I never care what form a book comes in. It's the words, people! The words!

Running...

Christine Wells said...

Jen, paper plates? Nooooooo!!!

Ah, you fit right in with the Banditas. We have our own private loop and I swear there were a hundred posts one day exchanging stories about dinner services.

And how about those handbags, hmmm?

Ah, Jardine! Good choice:) Although I can tell you that his darling Louisa is armed and dangerous.

Amy Andrews said...

Oh Christine - what can I say, It's the school holidays!!! I'm trying, I really am but its soooo hard to do anything with two kids constantly iterrupting :-(
And conference stuf - oi!
1 and a half chapters to go...

Christine Wells said...

Alaine wrote: I don't understand why they release some in Trade paperback and others in hard, is it just to drive us crazy?

Yes. That is the reason. Exactly. *g*

Christine Wells said...

Casanova? Actually, he was a fascinating man. I think he'll fit right in, Jane! And you're coming as your wicked self, I presume. Just kidding...I think:)

Yes, I love to know the plan. My dh on the other hand, hates planning and so we meet in the middle most of the time. Spontaneity used to drive me insane but I've learned that sometimes it can be fun.

Anna Campbell said...

Christine, if Sarah knew my intentions, she most definitely would NOT lend Vane to me for the night ;-) But it's very sweet of you to say so!

Christine Wells said...

Ooh, Anna! You naughty girl.

Tell me more...

Christine Wells said...

Oh, Amy, my heartfelt sympathies!

You know, Nora advocates shackles...

Good luck with the final push. Looking forward to reading it!

Thanks for inviting me to the party !!!
Congratulations on your new release.
I'm not an obsessive persone, I NEVER obsess about anything really... euh does chocolate and getting my romance novels on time count ???

Christine Wells said...

Emmanuelle, yes, chocolate and getting romance novels on time definitely count!

Thanks for the congrats! Lovely to see you in the lair.

hrdwrkdmom aka Dianna said...

Oh, Oh! Can I be Lady Kate and bring Max with me? Wicked Little Game is going to be a wonderful read, I can't wait to get to it.

Kirralee Schmidt said...

Happy Release Day, Christine!!! I can't wait to get my hands on a copy! I love the name Vane for your hero.

Obsessions - well, books, yes - got a few thousand of them to prove it. DVD's too.

I think I'm more obsessed with romance writing though. When I was in school I hadn't yet been introduced to the world of romantic literature, however I used to beg my teachers to set creative writing assignments - I certainly didn't win many friends that way! My stories were usually about damsels requiring rescue, but occassionally I would reverse the roles and have my heroines rescue the hero... but I digress.

Another obsession; procrastination. This kind of just happens but it happens so frequently that I assume I must be obsessed with it!

Now, for the party I have come as Cinderella (I know she's not wicked but I just love her) and my date would have to be Lord Sheene from Anna Campbell's Untouched. Again, not very wicked, but I can imagine some very wicked things!

Christine Wells said...

Dianna, you certainly can be Lady Kate! Hey, why didn't I think of that? I'd love to be Lady Kate. She's far wittier and prettier than I'll ever be. And she has Max, too, of course!

Christine Wells said...

Hiya, Kirralee! Thanks so much for flitting by, my little fairy princess!

Oh, gosh, you remind me of myself. I asked for extra English work too and just received a funny look from the teacher. Sheesh, how geeky are we?

Well, why not have a wicked Cinderella? Actually, a hint of wicked would make Cinderella far more interesting, IMO! And teaming up with the gorgeous Lord Sheene! Sigh. I think he's my favourite Anna Campbell hero.

Anna Sugden said...

Wooohooo!! Another Bandita release!! So looking forward to this, Christine (and to your next one, as you know *g*!)

Obsessive? Moi? Just a little LOL. I like to have things in sets. Can't stand total neatness *g*.

Hockey. Autographs. Memorabilia. Penguins. Hockey. Computer games (the old adventure game type), Hanjie puzzles. Hockey. Reading. Writing. Cats. Hockey.

As for I'd be - Audrey Hepburn. And my escort ... so many rakes and rogues, so little time. Jardine, Villiers, Roarke, Dillon ... Errol, Cary, Rock ... the list goes on. I think I'll also bring Sammy from Terri Garey's Nicki Styx series. Slurp.

Anna Sugden said...

Oh and to add to the trawl of choccies from Oz, I'll be bringing a case-load of Cadbury's etc too.

Tiffany Clare said...

I should bring along my very 'obsessive' hero from Hidden Beauty, Rothbrun! LOL

This book looks fantabulous Christine! I can't wait to get a copy of it!

My obsession is buying books. I. Just. Can't. Stop. Myself. :) My husband has noticed that hist stuff is slowly disappearing while by bookshelves keep growing :)

Tiffany Clare said...

oy oy oy... that was his stuff, not hist stuff... though I guess his stuff is sort of history now... :)

Christine Wells said...

VA, thanks, I hope you enjoy WICKED LITTLE GAME. Jardine does appear briefly in that book.

And so...hockey? I wouldn't have thought!LOL Interesting about computer games. I didn't know that about you. And since the last computer game I played was in about 1989, I have no idea what you mean by old-fashioned. To me, old is space invaders:)

Are you an Audrey fan, too? Hey, we have so much in common. I adore her. Roarke and Villiers et al...excellent choices. Heck, bring them all! I'm sure the cabana boys can cater for everyone.

Christine Wells said...

Ooh, Tiffany, I'm looking forward to meeting Rothbrun! And you're in good company here if your main obsession is books.

Thanks, I hope you enjoy WICKED LITTLE GAME!

Joanne Lockyer said...

Hi Christine! A HUGE congratulations! I didn’t even realize when we were chatting this morning that it was such a big day!! Awesome news, and I’ll be grabbing a copy from you in D.C.!

Let’s see, I’m coming along tonight as the rather wicked Harriette Wilson and add a good dose of scandal to the party! (grin) And I’ll be bringing the Arthur Wellesley, Duke of Wellington. The British mightn’t have considered him wicked, but I daresay Napoleon did!

Obsessions? I daresay that’s a little harder! Writing, definitely. Pancakes for breakfast with fresh fruit. And my mum makes an absolutely wicked slice.

So happy for you! Congrats on your release!!!

OMG! In posting this message, I just got access to my blog again! (long story but my yahoo email account crashed - thanks yahoo - and I got locked out of my blog - what an IDIOT!! LOL - and couldn’t get back in... and now I’ve got back in! Only 6 months later (hence why the blog has been a little slow). Oh My God I am SOOOOOOO STOKED! Thanks Christine!)

Christine Wells said...

*G* Glad to be of service, Joanne. You goose! I'll have to hope over to your blog and see how many challenges you've met.

Anyway, I love the idea of you being Harriette Wilson. And am I the only one who finds Wellington pretty sexy? Thanks for bringing His Grace to the party!

See you in D.C. and big hugs & thanks for dropping in!

Joanne Lockyer said...

Oh God! You wouldn't believe how much I cursed that blog! (you're not wrong - what a goose!)

I've done a bunch more of the list of 30, but unfortunately due to technical difficulties they haven't found their way up... looks like I've got some catching up to do! *grin*

My pleasure re: Wellington!

Christine Wells said...

I meant hop not hope. Sheesh! It must be past my bedtime.

Well, I had a look and got caught up in your history of Brisbane. Fascinating! I read that Blackbird book--went to a workshop the author gave as well.

Let me know when there's an update!

Deb Marlowe said...

Hooray! It's finally here! My kids will be thrilled that we *must* make a trip to the bookstore today!

Ooh, ooh, I want to come to the party as Sophia Dalby, the Courtesan from Claudia Dain's Courtesan series! Sophia is only a little wicked, and she's smart and unusual in a wonderfully witty way!

For my date I'll bring Captain Hook--the Jason Isaacs version, from the live action film. Yum! And I shudder to think what Sophia could do with him...

Congrats Christine! Can't wait to read Wicked Little Game!

Helen said...

Well done Kirsten have fun with him I am sure it is a while since he has been to your place.

Christine I am soooo looking forward to reading this book and getting to know Vane and Lady Sarah can't wait.

Congrats on the release and YAY I love release day parties in the lair, who would I come as I think I might be Scarlett O'Hara today and bring Rhett Butler as my date (sorry Hugh next time) she is such a strong character and could be very wicked I am sure and I guess you can't get any more wicked that Rhett.

Obsessions mine would have to be books at this point in my life I have to have so many new releases and every time I hear about a book it gets added to my list I may not get it straight away but i do get them sooner or later I just need more time to read them LOL. Another obsession I have is to make sure any money that is in my purse is facing the same way and for me the right way I have been like this with money since I worked in a bank years ago and my family always rib me about it and we all know how much I love chocolate!!

Congrats again Christine have fun in the States and I will be cheering you on from Australia

Have Fun
Helen

Ack! How did Kirsten get the GR?! I suppose we can't be stingy with him, though, since you won't be with us (or him) at the conference. :-(

Christine, I've been DYING to get this book! I'm off to Borders today to do some birthday shopping for a friend. I have a feeling Wicked Little Game will be coming home with me. *g* Plus, I'm reading a non-fiction book right now, so I will need a break from all that reality!

My darling husband moves from one obsession to the next. It was quite irresistable when the obsession was me but became annoying when it was rock hunting...and gathering. I have all manner of gorgeous, unique rock specimens piled around the foundation of my house, gathering leaves, pine straw, dirt and rainwater. Hm.

I wouldn't mind them if they were displayed in some sort of order, but it's just piles of crap right now. I told him as soon as he dies, I'm having them bring an industrial dumpster and the rocks are GONE. I am quite serious about it.

Beth Andrews said...

Happy release day, Christine! I picked up a copy of Wicked Little Game over the weekend and I can't wait to read it *g*

A few of my longer lasting obsessions are books and cooking/baking. I so love trying new recipes! And, of course, I'm a bit obsessed with writing :-)

pjpuppymom said...

Congratulations on the release of Wicked Little Game! Everyone should run to their nearest store and snap up a copy before they sell out. WLG is magnificent - a brilliantly written, gorgeous, emotional story that's one of my top reads of 2009. Honestly, Christine, I just can't say enough good things about it. Oh, and let's talk about your hero, Vane. OH. MY. GAWD. What a hero! Afraid you're going to have to fight me off, Foanna. I'm determined to have my share of one-on-one time with that chest..er..I mean...man too!

Obsessions? Well let's see. I've read WLG three times...so far. Does that count? ;-) Then there's chocolate. Definitely an obsession. Oh, and other books. Considering I have an entire room devoted to storing books I'd have to say that definitely qualifies.

Right now, my obsession is making sure I remember to pack everything I'll need in DC!

Christine, Congrats for today, your new book and wishing you a wonderful time in Washington!!

I absolutely loved the Dangerous Duke and Lady Kate! I'm really looking forward to another great read!

Obsession!...have a 10/10 one going now...Safari Scrap on Facebook ...(ranked 12 overall)

I am donning a lovely frock...dropping a zillion years and attending the party as Mary Ann Evans otherwise know as......
(who could guess?)
and a rather wicked married man....George!

Cheers Carol

Hi Christine, I can't wait to read WICKED LITTLE GAME and get you to sign it for me in Washington. That cover is so alluring.

Barbara Monajem said...

Happy, happy day! Where's my Borders coupon?

Obsession: words, which is why I subscribe to A.Word.a.Day. The most memorable word of the past few years: bedswerver. My current favorite word, thanks to my editor: toothsome.

LOL, Nancy... I used to know all the English monarchs from Richard III on. Lately I've been working my way backward.

My date: I haven't read enough Bujold to know if he appears anywhere else, but my current crush is Byerly Vorrutyer, a secondary character in A Civil Campaign. Who am I? Someone young, nubile, and almost smart enough to handle him. My fantasy challenge!

Maureen said...

Congratulations on your new book! It sounds like an exciting story. My obsessions vary, sometimes gardening, other times redoing a room in the house.

Nancy said...

Christine wrote: I'm intrigued by the kind of mind that can retain all of that detail.

Fandom is full of such minds. Back in the days when Trivial Pursuit was hot, one of my friends, the dh of author Eilis Flynn, commented that being good at that game required "a mind like a lint trap, full of useless information." *g*

Glad to see another JLA fan.

We were s'posed to bring a date? Clearly, I was spacing. Or else too hung up on obsessions to notice.

I'll bring Aragorn. Looks good in a cape, needs to loosen up and party a little. Great at keeping order if things get out of hand.

Joan said...

Woohoooo!!!! A release party in The Lair!! SO glad my hospital "budgeted" me this morning!

Demetrius! Get you shield ready!

I echo everyone about that delicious excerpty Mme. I have a feeling that will be my plane book come Friday....though I'd love to get it at the Literacy signing.

As to obsessions I'm thinking of two.

Ireland. 'nuff said

And one that Lynz kind of brought up as in Joseph. Not the true bibical persona but the one in Andrew Lloyd Weber's "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" muscial.

I. Love. That. Show.

It toured here in Louisville one week while I was on vacation. Went and saw it THREE times! Bought the old VHS version with Donny Osmond.

As to wicked guest? Why there can only be one that I could be...

*thunder*

The Goddess Sangria!

Now, mortal pass me that scrumptious Vane and I'll show you waht wicked is....

Renee said...

Very Happy Release Day, it's a great day for a release. Very intriguing premise, definitely wanting more.

I'm OCD, does that say enough? The one thing I'm overly obsessive about is how my groceries go on the conveyor belt and into the sacks. I almost went postal on the clerk who put sausage in with my cheese. Well, not really but I thought I'd lose my breakfast, "Clean up at register 10".

Have a great day, Christine!

Trish Milburn said...

Congrats on your release, Christine! I have to go out shopping later for a couple of things for the conference, so I'll pop by the bookstore for this.

Ah, obsession. When I get really hooked on a TV show or book series, or really anything, I glom it in huge chunks because I can't wait to find out what happens next.

And I'm going to have Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game" in my head all day today -- which is okay because I really like that song (and HIM's remake).

Christine -

Happy Release Day! What a fabulous cover! This one is going to fly off the shelves.

Obsessions - I guess for me it would be research books - not that I read all of them. I hope to gain the knowledge through osmosis (grin) but I have several floor to ceiling bookcases downstairs filled with research texts.

Congrats Kirsten on the rooster nabbing. Be sure he gets lots of rest as he has a busy schedule next week.

Happy Release Day!!!

I'm obsessed about all sorts of things. I'm a neat freak for one, I have to be exactly on time, and after dusting everything has to go back in their exact spots.

And count me in amongst the Justice League fanatics. Batman was so well drawn. Ooh la la!

p226 said...

I've decided to come as Snake Eyes (of Cool Hand Luke) and I've brought Irulan Corrino (of Dune) with me.

An odd mix, I know. But I tend to be silent and observant, where my guest tends to be the epitome of grace and class.

As for me being obsessive about something... I'm sure my guest would rattle off a short list of things. Though, I prefer to use the term "enthusiastic."

The Brunette Librarian said...

I'm super obsessive about my things not being moved. I don't mind sharing but I want to be asked! A few months ago I left and when I came back, things on my dresser that shouldnt' have been moved were way on the other side of the room. What the heck? Not a huge deal but it still bothered me! :)

I've decided to come to the party as SuperWoman! I like the color scheme on her outfit :) AND as for a wicked man on my arm...I'd have to go with Sebastian, Lord St. Vincent from "Devil In Winter" by Lisa Kleypas. VERY Yummy!!

Congratulations!

You are absolutely right about the obsessive part of being a writer. I think anyone in the arts has to be, or we'd never be able to stick to it when things get rough. Which they always do.

I share your Richard Armitage obsession. He's being interviewed tomorrow (Wed.) at a book blog called Vulpes Libris. Hope to see you there in the comments section.

My other obsessions are Gerard Butler and Ewan McGregor, and ballet. Can't get enough of any of the above, and never will.

My date for the party? ...hmm... May I introduce you to Royal Naval Officer Horatio Hornblower?

Fedora said...

LOL! Hooray, Christine! What a party! Congrats! And obsessions? Definitely books. Occasionally chocolate, but definitely just the good stuff! Man oh man, how I wish I were going to DC--Cadbury AND Tim Tams??! Heaven!

Congrats on the GR, Kirsten! What a great day to have him!

Elyssa Papa said...

Yay! It's finally here! I *loved* this book soooo much. Congrats, Christine on the new release and good luck next week at the Ritas.

Hellie Sinclair said...

No, I didn't adhere to reading lists. I didn't like having my lists dictated for me of what was considered "good reading." I've always been a natural rebel in that regard. If they had titled the list, "This is the list of books you should NEVER EVER EVER read", then I would have probably read them all before the first month of summer had passed. *LOL*

I'm amazed really I got my degree in English because I didn't read nearly the number of required reading books that was automatically expected to have been read by English majors. *shrugs* Oh, well.

Things I'm obsessed about: sewing costumes. When it comes to Halloween season (usually July to October), I'll be planning and sewing my costume for that year. (I haven't decided what I want to be this year. I had to do some sewing earlier this year and now I'm having sewing burnout.)

Wicked character to be: that chick from Scottish history--Black Agnes. The one who totally vexed that English commander by not letting her husband's castle be seiged. Now SHE is kick ass and must have had a wicked sense of humor.

And if I'm going to pose as her, I supposed I'd have to bring a brawny Scottish warrior with me. Someone with a massive broadsword.

Anastasia St. James said...

Congratulations on your release Christine! The book sounds fantastic, I can't wait to read it. I've just downloaded it from Fictionwise to read on the crossing over to DC. It absolutely sounds like it will keep my mind off the flying side of things. :)

BTW, if you are wondering, you eyes are not playing tricks on you. That is Erith's arm I'm hanging from. And yes, that's drool shining on my chin. Shhhh. I figure since AC was occupied elsewhere...

And before anyone tries to tell me otherwise- He is a historic figure. NO doubt about that. ;)

Christie Kelley said...

Congrats on the release, Christine! I can't wait to read it. Now, I'm crawling back to the cave.

HAPPY HAPPY RELEASE DAY, Mme!!!

I fell in love with the cover of this book the moment I saw it! YUMMY!!! Although it will have its work cut out for it to surpass TDD. I ADORED Max and Kate and have every appendage crossed that they bring home the Rita statue. ;-)

For the party, I'm donning my blonde wig and portraying Mae West, not too far a stretch for Yer Olde Aunty. And my date will be the scrumptious Alan Rickman in his Sheriff of Nottingham guise from Robin Hood. Oh honey, PLEASE DO come up and see me sometime!

CONGRATS on the new release!!! That cover really is GORGEOUS and I'm looking forward to adding this to my TBR.

No idea who I'd be or who I'd bring. Whoever he is, he has those boots that come to the knee then fold back down. And a sword. Oh, and maybe a billowy shirt. No, a billowy shirt under a tight vest. (Not historical writer so sorry if they didn't call that a vest back then. LOL!)

And whoever I am, I'm his. :)

Deb, my sister, I'm going to have to check out this Jason Isaac person because knowing what terrible twins we are, I'm bound to fall in love with him!

Hmm, Sophia Dalby, hey? But are you sure you're willing to put yourself in the hands of TICD? She is Sophia's creator, after all.

And is that 'shudder' in a good way? *evil grin*

Thanks for dropping in, Deb! Can't wait to see you in DC!

Christine Wells said...

Hi Helen, thanks so much for the kind words. WLG is going to be with you very shortly. I hope you enjoy it!

Oh, I'm laughing at the money having to face the same way. I'm learning such wonderful quirks. This is great fodder for a writer.

Christine Wells said...

Hi PoshT! It is tough living with someone who has obsessions, isn't it? My hope with my dh is that it's something that (a) doesn't take a lot of time away from home and (b) doesn't make a mess. Poor you with the rocks!

I hope you like WLG. It seems to have been a long time coming, doesn't it?*g*

Christine Wells said...

Beth, I need to know your secret! How is it that all that cooking doesn't go to your waistline, because you have such a lovely figure? I adore baking, but the I eat what I bake so I've had to stop.

Thank you for buying Wicked Little Game. I hope you like it!

Christine Wells said...

Wow, PJ, I'm gobsmacked! You've read WLG 3 times? I'm so pleased, I'm doing a happy dance down here in Oz! What a wonderful compliment.

Good luck with your packing! I'm starting mine today. Woohoo, I can't wait to be in D.C.!

Thanks, I'm sure we'll have a wonderful time in DC and I'm looking forward to catching up with Joanne over there!

I just called Honey and asked him to stop in to grab a copy of WLG for me on the way home! And as I am still the focus of his chief obsession, even after some 48

gathering as myself, because I can
be quite WICKED at times! I will
be on Honey's arm (sorry, David B!)

Christine Wells said...

Hi Kandy, happy release day to you, too! We are going to be exchanging books in DC, I think. Woohoo! Can't wait!

Christine Wells said...

LOL Barbara, your date sounds great!

And I love words, too. "Toothsome" is a beauty, reminds me of Berty Wooster in PG Wodehouse with his toothsome eggs and bacon. I also love the history of words. Being a historical writer, I often have to look up a word to make sure it was used in my period. I'm always fascinated to learn the origins of words.

Thanks for visiting today!

Christine Wells said...

Hi Maureen! Your obsessions sound extremely constructive, unlike mine! Thanks for commenting!

Christine Wells said...

Nancy wrote: I'll bring Aragorn. Looks good in a cape, needs to loosen up and party a little. Great at keeping order if things get out of hand.

Oh, good one, Nancy! As long as Aragorn looks like Viggo, I'm totally going along with that.

I used to get frustrated in Trivial Pursuit because most of the popular culture stuff was way before my time. I stuck with Arts and Literature and Science and Nature as much as I could!

Christine Wells said...

Hi Joanie T! Or should I say Goddess Sangria:) Poor Vane, he's being passed around like a bottle of ketchup at a barbecue. He's a sensitive man under all that brawn, ladies. Be gentle!

Glad you could join in the fun, Joanie!

So...does that mean Demetrius is up for grabs?

Christine Wells said...

Renee, thanks for dropping in. Oh, the checkout! Actually, I'm a bit obsessive there, myself. I always put the groceries in the order I want them packed. Frozen stuff together, meat separate, yada yada. Totally get the no sausage with the cheese thing!

Christine Wells said...

Trish, thanks so much for going out to buy WLG. Wow, you all are so great!

I know what you mean about series. I'm exactly the same. Now that you can get entire series on DVD fairly cheaply, I find it's the only way to go.

Actually, I wanted to call the book Wicked Game because I find that song so sexy and atmospheric and it would have fitted perfectly, but of course, the title had already been taken. Then I noticed I'd said somewhere in the text that Sarah's husband was playing a dirty little game or something like that. So that's how the title came about!

It was originally called Indecent Proposal but the publisher made me change it. At first I thought it was because of the movie, but there was an earlier release called An Indecent Proposition and I assume they didn't want two similarly titled books.

Christine Wells said...

jcp, that is a worthwhile obsession! Thanks for your comment:)

Christine Wells said...

Hi Donna! Thanks for the happy returns. I'm like you. I have a lot of research books I haven't got around to reading yet. When I get back from DC I'm going to start making inroads on them.

As for the rooster, Donna I can't wait to see who you're going to photograph with him at National. This is going to be so much fun!

Christine Wells said...

Joder, you're scaring me!LOL I'm such a slob, you would murder me if you lived in my house.

So is Batman your date for this shindig? Cool!

Joan said...

So...does that mean Demetrius is up for grabs?

"Hmmmm..," mused the goddess outloud, "perhaps for a price? Shall we play our OWN WICKED LITTLE GAME?"

Christine Wells said...

P226 said: I prefer to use the term "enthusiastic."

Hey, Snake Eyes. I'm betting your guest would be right!

Interesting pairing between silent and deadly and cool and elegant. I'll have to think about that. Opposites are so obvious in romance and pretty easy to write. It's other kinds of juxtapositions that often interest me more.

I love the quote Eric Maisel mentioned about Pavarotti in a talk once. He said, "I'm not disciplined, I'm devoted." To be proficient at something, you have to devote a lot of time and energy to it. That's why people who know me as fairly easygoing and slapdash can't quite reconcile how driven I am about writing.

Christine Wells said...

Hi RachieG/Superwoman, yay, we have another of the League here! (Was Superwoman in the League? I don't remember.)

Anyway, I understand what you mean. I hate it when someone moves the stuff on my desk. If it's there, it's there for a reason.

Ooh, St Vincent. Nice! Yet another of my favourite books that has not been returned to me after I lent it out! sheesh.

Christine Wells said...

Hi Julia! Lovely to see you in the lair. Ah, Horatio as played by Gregory Peck or that other fresh-faced young man...Ioan Gruffud is it?

Well your obsessions sound pretty healthy to me. Thanks for the heads up about the Richard Armitage interview! Yay! I'm his friend on facebook but I don't think he ever actually 'appears' there in person.

Christine Wells said...

Hi Fedora! Books and chocolate go together like love and marriage, don't they?*G* Thanks for popping in!

Jessica Scott said...

Funny you should mention obsessed. I THINK I've cured my nearly four month obsession with changing my website www.jessicascott.net . It occupied my thoughts for hours and I can't count how long I spent working on it. But when the latest version dropped, I knew I had the site that clicked. Once the click happened, my mind felt so free! It's liberating to not be obsessed about it. Now, if only I could get obsessed with my next work in process.

Christine Wells said...

Elyssa, that's wonderful to hear. Thanks for the good luck!

Christine Wells said...

Hey, Hellion! Black Agnes does sound formidable. Thanks for bringing the man in the kilt. Just tell him not to start a fight with the Romans or we'll have a blood bath on our hands.

Lists. I didn't see it as dictating what I should read, just giving me ideas of what I could read. I was so voracious, I'd run out of things to look for, so I'd just use those lists as a springboard. Many of them were great books, too.

Christine Wells said...

LOL, Anastasia, I don't blame you for wanting to bring Erith to the party. Good on you! I'm sure Anna won't mind. That Olivia, on the other hand, I think she'd be quite a formidable opponent!

Thanks for buying Wicked Little Game. I hope you enjoy it! We must catch up in DC!

Christine Wells said...

Thanks for dragging yourself out, Christie. I appreciate it since I'm only newly emerged myself! Good luck with the next book!

Christine Wells said...

I was hoping we'd get a Mae West! Yay, AC! And to bring Alan Rickman just for me? How kind of you:)

Thank you for your lovely praise of TDD. Wouldn't that be utterly fantastic if it won the RITA? Fierce competition, though. I'm thrilled just to be nominated.

Christine Wells said...

Terrio wrote: And whoever I am, I'm his. :)

Snork! Too funny, Terrio. I think in the lair we call those things bucket boots! And who cares what it's called, as long as it's appropriately filled. The vest, I mean! The vest!

Christine Wells said...

Flip, I think you've hit the nail on the head, there. In real life, we do want a bit of breathing space. Vane isn't one of those controlling heroes, although he does step in at some points to show Sarah a thing or two!

Christine Wells said...

Hey, Foanna, them's real fightin' words! And you know how I love fights in my fiction... but at a party? Not so much.

Christine Wells said...

Oh, Pat! Now that is true devotion--a man willing to buy a romance novel for you on is way home;)

I LOVE the fact that you are still each other's obsession. Ahhhh.

Obsessions...hmmm. Of course, I'm obsessed with books. And I really love my morning cup of java. Oh, I do my nightly routine (washing my face, flossing, etc.) in the same order every time. My dh and I have been married almost 21 years, and he still thinks that's weird.

I would come to this shindig as Grace O'Malley, female pirate extraordinaire. Oh, but do I have to choose just one man for the party? There are so many heroes to go around. :) The more, the merrier!

Hi, Christine, congratulations on your new release. I've been waiting forever for this book, and just got notice that Amazon is shipping it today.

Sorry I'm late to the party. Are the cabana boys all -- well, used up, I guess?

I'm late because my obsession is my granddaughter Emma whom I had all day today. She's darling, but a little high maintenance!

Carol, actually, I admit, I had to look her up! And then I forgot to say something. My mind is not with it today, I'm afraid. Thanks for lending a touch of the highbrow to the lair.

Ah, Jo, we know you'd choose Dr. Big for your date anyway:)

And what a lovely obsession to have. Wonderful that after so many children and grandchildren you are still so involved in the next generation. My mother is like you--she can't get enough of my boys but they do wear her out occasionally.

Thank you for buying WICKED LITTLE GAME. I love discussing books with you and I hope you'll give me a detailed analysis!

Hi Christine! Huge happy release day! I'm just so happy for you (and me to read!). Its just been beautiful going on this journey with you as a reader with each and every book you have out. (Kind of like being a stalker, smile).

I have a few obsessions besides my books, LOL. One is checking the stove knobs every time I pass the stove. My hubby rolls my eyes at both (yep my books too, but he says we only have one life so enjoy it!) Hugs!

Hi Caffey, what a compliment! A book stalker is definitely the best kind:) Thank you. I'm very flattered.

You know, checking knobs is just a safety thing. I do it because I have two little boys who like to push buttons and twist knobs! Maybe you developed the habit that way? Or maybe there's something wrong with me that I identify with so many of these obsessions?LOL

WHOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO It's Release Day!!!!

Congratulations, Christine, I'm so excited to get my hands on this book!

As for obsession, oh baby, I'm the Queen. Writing, Johnny Depp, Castle, learning, kids. You name it, once I get invested, I'm obsessively invested. How can I get more, do more, be more, have more. My husband and I have a deal -whenever there's a project to do or renovation in the works, he won't even talk to me about it until he's ready to work on it because he knows once I start focusing and obsessing, I'm a nightmare.

But when obsessions pay off with incredible books like Wicked Little Game, how can one think they are anything but awesome???

Tawny, you're living proof of what I'm saying--that successful people are often obsessive!LOL I love that your husband knows and respects that about you.

Thanks for celebrating with me. I hope you like WLG:)

Christine: I review for rakehell. I'm actually currently switching back and forth between writing here, watching season two of Psych, and wondering if I can write my review of Louise Allen's August release without actually going upstairs to grab the book. Hurray for laziness! And I think the reason manga and anime are so popular is that there's really something out there for everyone, young or old, regardless of gender. There's such huge selection that it's hard not to find something you like.

Alaine: Yeah, I've borrowed hardcovers from my friends before, even *coincidentally* gotten them hooked on a series right before the next book comes out in hardcover... and there's always the library, too, but it's still just not the same as owning the book yourself and being able to re-read it whenever you want to. And yes, I think they do it just to drive us crazy... crazy enough to buy more books since we want a matching set, that is!

Oops! Lynz, how did I miss that last comment? Oh, I know of Rakehell, that's great. So you're a Regency buff, then? What did you decide in the end? Get the book? Don't get the book?

Hardcover, what can I say? I can only dream of my books ever being brought out in hardcover. Sigh!

I'm more of a history buff, really - I'll take pretty much any historical period and end up happy. But yes, I do read a lot of Regencies. I love the time period, and it certainly helps that some of my favourite authors write about it.

As for the book... I went upstairs, took a nap, then brought it down with me. I couldn't resist the call of the bed and the two cuddly doggies who were on it.
